1. Its called homemade gravy for those who think its gross and don't know
what it is. Ever hear of the expression "don't cut it before you try it" 2.
For those who are commenting on nutrition - focus on your own lives instead
of preaching to others! I'm sure she know its lacking some nutrition. Geez!
Thank you for sharing your cooking! I love the way you made the gravy, just
like in the good old days. Nobody knows how to cook anymore these days.
Very sad!
+Sean Newhouse Where I live [California] powdered milk is more expensive than fresh. So you should always check before assuming powered is a better deal.
This looks disgusting, no nutrition at all. Make egg omelette with a side
of peas and carrots, or veg and mushroom risotto. Cheaper by far and with
actual nutrition. Americans are fat for a reason. I can understand eating
on a budget but at least try to make it healthy. This aint worth the heart
attack.
+tone burgess I can't say that recipe looks great. Not on the healthy side for sure but when you mix butter and flour together it's called a "roux". that's what you use to start a sauce in French cuisine. She just used fat instead....
I appreciate cooking on a budget, but this is so unhealthy providing no
nutrition, vitamins or good minerals at all. No wonder the Western world
has an obesity epidemic!
So true, DanaPatriciaMary1. it is both. With new technolgy in cookware now (The gemstone ceramic pots and pans and air fryers), she won't need to use no fat in her cooking no more which will make her food much healthier. Growing your own organic fruit, herbs and vegetables helps a great deal in cooking and eating on a budget. Plus, it is much better for you than gm crap.
+DanaPatriciaMary1 Is it all food or lack of exercise as well? In any case they choose what they want to eat. People tend to blame others for their state of being. China is not a victim.
I agree veggies are a better option but many places in the US have a shortage of fresh produce especially in lower income areas Fresh food deserts I believe they're called. We are perhaps fortunate enough to live in a country or area where this is not a problem.
+John Gale Fresh veggies are definitely cheaper than sausage. Just think about the things sausages are made of. They are not 100% meat. They contain various additives, such as those that give it color, other give it meat-like flavor, others make it last longer. And there is also flour etc. to make it look more meat-like. So it is NOT a good option, even in such a bad economic situation. Veggies are much, much better and would sustain the lady longer alive and healthy. But - she´s adult, she can eat whatever she wants to. I wouldn´t want to eat like her, but I´m not her. (And I´m glad I´m not).
In the current economic situation in America fresh vegetables are hard to come by for some individuals you should appreciate the situation this lady is in and respect what she is providing for her family. Its not so simple. I'm so glad I live in Australia.
+kenmtb China is having issues with kids getting big, because they started to eat western junk food. Before it came to China, 90% of Chinese were slim and healthy.
Carbs are actually our main sources of energy, while i agree you should have some vegetables too. Carbs and protein is vital in anyone's diet. Pasta is a slow digesting carb so it keeps you fuller for longer.
Veggies are better and cheaper. You can dress them up with low calorie toppings like butter substitute. BTW obesity is not limited to the west. China is having issues with kids getting big.
+Carolyne S I agree with the part of buying in bulk and freezing things like meat, poultry, fish and frozen vegetables. But choosing healthy options even is you are starving hungry is a must to cut obesity and to be healthier.
Well if you have little to no money..the main thing is to buy bulk out meals..that not only last but fill you up! When you are starving you ll eat anything!

I don't even like processed grains anymore. I only eat whole grain
products. When baking, I do add a little all purpose flour, but mostly use
whole wheat flour. Often I will add either 7 grain hot cereal softened in
boiling water, or wheat germ and bran to the recipes for breads, rolls etc.
