This video is about the blu-ray release of the 1977 film The American Friend (Der amerikanische Freund) from fabled director Wim Wenders. Review of Purple ...
I always regret posting my views but in this case, I'll try again. For me
this is easily one of my top five favorite films. I first rented it in the
early 80's, then rented it again, and again until I finally purchased not
one but several copies to give to individuals I thought might find it of
interest. I currently own one VHS and two previously released DVD versions,
and recently purchased the Criterion regular DVD which I have not taken the
time to view. I am in total agreement that the later "Ripley's Game" was a
throw-a-way, whether compared to this film or any other. I love the mood,
cadence, and desperation this particular film evokes. Just outstanding, all
the way around. I fail to see how any one interested in cinema could
dismiss this project. I never have found myself saying, that could never
happen, with the exception of the planted medical records in Paris, in any
situation in this story. Other than that 5-Stars. If you liked "The French
Connection", you'll probably like this, if you're patient. The grit is
tenable, and for its day, refreshing.
Blu-ray Collection Part 10 (Criterion Collection Part 1 of 3))
I will be making 3 videos to go over my Criterion collection. Several of my Criterions have been sold over the past week which is sad (had to part with Chungking ...
Nice picks, I also got It Happened One Night, as well as La Haine, Red
River, Inside Llewyn Davis, Breaker Morant, and Valarie and Her Week of
Wonders. I have the Eddie Coyle criterion Dvd but that blu ray looks cool
so I might have to upgrade. As far a new Hollywood, there are too many to
talk about all at once, but the one I always see listed as an early example
along with Bonny and Clyde and Easy Rider is The Graduate, which is one of
my favorite films and coming to Criterion soon.
Friends of Eddie Coyle got a release from Eureak/Masters of Cinema recently
as a blu-ray. That is what I was saying. Same transfer as far as I know.

Nice Haul Stoud. I really like Hans Zimmer, he has made some amazing OST's.
He even did one of my favourite Anime OST's for a series called Blood+.
From which the 'Grand Theme' is so epic.
A shelf loaded with criterion blu's. 20 spine later in the last 10 months. Barnes & noble 50% sale is coming anytime soon. I plan to buy a whole godamn bunch so ...
But the dirt and scratches give the film character. I shot a 16 mm silent
film on reversal B&W and edited it in my barn just so I could get dirt on
the film. I am about to shoot 35 mm B&W film in an original hand-cranked
camera and I want the dirt and scratches. I don't want someone 100 years
from now taking the dirt off my film.
+John Gilbert Well, when 70% of silent films are lost, you want to make the ones we DO have look as good as possible. You adding scratches and what not is an artistic choice.
