I incubate this species in a mixture of peat moss and vermiculite, with sphagnum moss around the eggs. The substrate is kept much more saturated than with normal eggs, and I try to keep the temperature fluctuating, but between 68 and 75 degrees. I do not use an incubator unless the eggs fall below 68 degrees.Anthony
Turtle Date Night
Anthony shows off a fan favorite, the breeding pair of Vietnamese Black Breasted Leaf Turtles (Geoemyda spengleri), as they spend some quality time together.
I think it's good to see the entire approach and her reaction as well. You
can read about what courtship and copulation looks like, but it is so much
more effective to see a short video on it. It lasts for a little while at
least, because they were still locked up when I left them. I'd like to see
how long it lasts on a day when I have time to check in on them once in a
while, but I didn't have the time last night. I have so many videos on them
already, but I thought this was important. Anthony
Thanks! Yeah, they can be a bit pricy. It used to be possible to get adults
for around 30 USD, back when they were commonly imported, but those days
are long gone. Prices now vary quite a bit and are nothing close to those
modest asking prices. They also didn't survive often in those days.
Anything you find now is either very LTC or CB. Anthony
Nothing yet. She is nice and heavy though. I only put the male in for about
18 hours, just be sure that if she can lay, she will. There is a good
chance she may lay any time now, since it's been upwards of 5 weeks since
the last clutch. Anthony
Yeah, the animated courtship is amazing. The females, from what I have seen
in 3 different animals now, always turn their head to the side and greet
the male with an open mouth. It is very interesting to see. Very
ritualized. Ant
