Whilst it is fantastic that NHS hospitals are working to improve the quality of meals provided to patients and staff, I find it rather contradictory that this video promotes the idea of using organic produce. To quote the NHS Choices webpages: "Many champions of organic food, such as Prince Charles, have claimed that food grown organically is healthier and more nutritious. However, this review found no strong evidence to support the health benefits from eating organic instead of conventional foods." "Overall, the study confirms speculation that the nutritional content of organic and conventional foods is much the same, except for content that is a feature of individual production methods." "Some people choose to eat organic foods because they are worried about residues of these in food. Organic farmers do use pesticides and herbicides but there are strict guidelines on which ones can be used. Research on the levels of pesticides and herbicides in organic foods shows that some samples have contained equal or higher levels of these compounds than conventionally grown fruit and vegetables." (The Royal Marsden) Perhaps I have interpreted this video incorrectly, but if the NHS Choices team could clarify where they stand on this it would be greatly appreciated. :)
