Aiko-Aiko - Grateful Dead - 5-13-1981 Providence, RI set2-16

@LoloYodel Bro this is real nice but in your comments for some reason you
did not mention 5/4/81 from the spectrum and i gotta tell ya after the
bobby sands show 5/4 is easily one of the top3 shows that spring. if you
get a chance to listen to it ,you will not be let down. I caught most of
this tour and for the most part it was great.
Back in 1983 aiko was a song that was not done all that often as it was in
the years after, so when you heard garcia hit those first couple notes it
was way cool . But in the later tears this song turned up on setlists ALL
to often.
This was my second show. The 1st being 3/14/81. I will never forget this
night... Not the best show ever, but It was the one that hooked me and made
me return 126 more times.
A beautiful song from a great year for the dead. They over played a lot of
material in 81' but there were some great shows and some great Jerry jams !
Thanks for this one.

No kidding with the windmills! They look happy and Jerry is looking thin.
I was in school then, within 60 mi, but not at this show. There were two
spring tours in '81, March & May, so I saw a lot.
This is interesting on a lot of levels. Not asking you to reveal your
sources and secrets, but is this shot by the venue or someone getting the
camera in? Probably the latter, and since VHS cameras were big, they did a
fine job. I remember hearing that hard-core bootleggers (like Jeff S) were
starting to do video, by shooting from the balcony and syncing with their
audience recordings. Obviously you've synced it with the board, and
because you can't see their lips it's hard to tell if it's exact. HOWEVER
there's a cool little moment as Jerry is walking back from his amps (after
the exposure brightens) - he runs his fingers fast up the guitar strings -
and it's perfectly in sync!
Yeah, I think the sudden brightness is the shooter adjusting an ND filter
or exposure ring, not the house lights coming on. He was probably being
very undercover; video was especially verboten. Even just audio taping
(especially FOB) involved smuggling and being somewhat undercover - there
was no taper's section then.
Thank you very much because I've always considered '79 - '82 to be the best
period. Perhaps because I was coming of age and seeing the band the most.
But after seeing this and others you've posted, I think I am justified!
It's great to see it all "on video." People were doing more filming than I
thought!
