This is not a death adder. It is a New Guinea small-eyed snake, a species
for which no specific antivenom exists. We know it very well having caught
dozens for venom research since 1990. It does occasionally cause human
fatalities but rarely. There was no bite response, it is well dead and
stiffened by rigor. The leaves do not work but reliance on them is one of
the reasons PNG has the 5th highest snakebite death in the world: from
200-400 deaths a year (possible more) in a population of 5.5M.
