Ahead of his last "State of the Union" address, the president touts the return of American auto manufacturing as a sure sign that government policies are working.
your hard earned dollars? so you aRE THE only one has has earned your
dollars the hardway? I put 30 years of my life into Ford and they were very
hard earned .sometimes I couldnt zip up my pants my hands hurt so bad .
nowq that I have retired if the company goes belly up I will get an im
sorry? its easy to point your finger when it dont effect you aint it. what
should I do get retrained at 60? I will have to find a 10$ job ? lose
everything? for what ? your hard earned tax dollars? fuck you!
If it's truly a "loan" than it should be subject to the same requirements
of a loan. Do you think that the auto industry qualifies for a loan? I
don't. I doubt they could even qualify for a home equity loan. No, this is
a bailout. You're wanting to give them money to prop up their failing
business without taking into account the status of their potential earnings
and the market they are in. If you're so concerned with the people, why not
just cut them a check directly. It would be better.
Under Chapter 11 the automakers will be able to remain in business, and
employ the necessary workers, with relief from creditors. This will
encourage automakers to find a way to streamline operations and cut
unnecessary costs. Instead of spending money on private jets, and naming
rights for football stadiums, they will be forced to focus on making a
satisfactory product and delivering it to market at a satisfactory price.
Besides, they already have a 50 BILLLION dollar loan from the US
I understand they're asking for a loan. I suspect that congress will give
it to them. It's obvious you're pro bailout, and I respect that. We just
disagree. I think the auto companies have been resistant to change, and
have done a terrible job managing expenses/costs. It took them until just
yesterday to break off their endorsement deal with Tiger Woods. Here's
another tip. Stop taking private jets to D.C. to beg for money. Chapter 11
is the answer, not a loan. Let them work out of it.
gas was the reason we are in this mess oil companies greed and things went
to hell in a hand basket. Now more unemployed people in America and this
will affect world wide. GM should be ashamed of them selves. Asking for
money when they could have had nice cars and suvs that get 50 mph Ford same
way this is just greed now look at the mess they all did to us enough
people are loosing there homes jobs and wow if we do not do something a big
depression I mean big depression will be coming
You've got to love the hypocrisy!!! Congress sits in judgment of these
companies, be it Auto indurty officials, or Wall Street Execs from AIG, and
complain that these companies are poorly run, and that they need oversight.
Yet, the Treasury Department has no mechanism in place to track how
institutions are using $150 billion in taxpayer money that the government
injected into the banking system. Maybe we should fix our government before
we fix private corporations. What do you think?
Our Congress and Government is exactly where we should start. At all levels
our government needs overhauled. Our local governments are full of a bunch
of idiots with trust funds or otherwise way too much time on their hands.
Our federal government is a mishmash of lawyers and failed businessmen who
are all on the take for whatever they can get while in office. Don't even
get me going on the crooked labor unions. I don't mean to
overgeneralize...but stereotypes have a way of working.
Jimit15: YOu are WAY behind. It doesnt MATTER about your circumstance. THEY
are ognna take EVERYTHING off EVERYBODY because that is what hey do. Next
year there will be a different story. We have had stories since the bible
was forced on us, by people form the middle bloody east !!! Our land is NOT
their home. They are from ISRAEL, in heart of not body. And they ALL meet
in Israel to decide our future work load,. THEY are the slave masters, we
are the slaves. THAT is how it is !!
Exactly...I was a mountain guide in Wyoming for 9 years...Toyota pickups
outlasted the American vehicles 2 to 1. I currently have a 1997 Honda
station wagon that I use for road trips. 150K and it runs and drives like
new. I did have a 1990 Dodge Ramcharger that was a good truck other than
the 2 transmissions I put in it...and the 11 miles per gallon that it got.
My brother in law had a bmw that had 350K on it when he sold it to one of
his employees. 500K on original drivetrain.
You miss my point entirely. The big three and their workers have fallen way
behind in the way they do business. The UAW is a dinosaur...upper
management is irresponsible. Why should the American taxpayer have to
shoulder this burden? We are a free market system...it may be painful, but
this needs to run its course. Are we going to give Honda, Nissan, Subaru,
and Toyota a piece of the action as well? They build cars in the US.
management. We cant reward poor business practices.
The Big 3 automakers are the slaves of big oil & will never change. If they
need a bailout, let them get it from their masters. It's not like the oil
companies are hurting for cash or credit. Instead, they have a layoff gun
aimed at the autoworkers' heads whom they are using as hostages & human
shields so they can scare Congress into paying the ransom money with tax
dollars they don't even have. When it comes to using terror tactics, these
guys are right up there with Al Qaeda
Trust me, I feel for all those individuals who are at risk of losing their
jobs, and not just those in the auto industry. My point is, the auto
industry is a dying market. It's not lucrative for the companies, thus it
can't survive. Infusing money into the companies will only prop up the
companies for a short period of time and lead to wasteful spending. File
chapter 11, continue operations, and WORK your way out of bankruptcy.
That's the RESPONSIBLE way to tackle the problem.
You have greedy corporate CEO's who take private jets to beg for 25 billion
dollars from politicians who drink $500.00 bottles of wine at G 20 meetings
while discussing the failing economy. Yeah, this should work out just fine!
Let them file Chapter 11 and work their way out of receivership. Don't just
give them 25 billion dollars. It's fact that when you give LARGE SUMS of
money to people, they inevitably waste some of it. Keep them on a short
leash and you'll minimize waste.
Thats right, my hard earned dollars. You don't think I'm not affected by
this? You are dead wrong. Wheres the hell is captialism at? Please someone
tell me. This is ridiculous all these bailouts. If you give the companies
free money there is no incentive to restructure the company. Where was the
steel mills bailout at? That's right, there was none. These companies have
itself to blame, not me, nor the government. They are the reason why they
can't compete with Honda, Toyota.
I was a republican I am now a democrat. the auto companies are not asking
for a bailout they are asking for a loan. if they fail 3 million people
will lose their current jobs not to mention 1 million retiries that pay
taxes as well. they gave their bodies and their lives with the promise of
having a decent life after 30 years. no current emplyee at the big 3 makes
more than 15$ an hour. they need the loan to make it over the hump. they
will pay it back ! wake up you dummies
OH yes let's let the government run things. They are sooooo effecient at
that. Talk about socialism. You people like to think you're so intelligent
about your autos.Ever hear of the catlytic converter?? For those of you who
don't know it greatly reduces the emissions from your ehaust. Guess who
invented it? Japan? NO. It was GM !!!! Do yourself a favor pull your head
out of your import reports, go to a dealer and check out what the big 3
have to offer. BUY AMERICAN !!!!!
Really? And what greed is that? Is it greedy t owant to earn a good living.
Management didn't have to agree to any of their damands. And the unions
have given back PLENTY. And you know what? I'm tired of hearing this "lazy
union worker" BS. Fact is , most of them work damm hard. Sure there are
some screw-offs. Show me a business where aren't any. But whatever, let em'
fail. Your lack of comprehension is frightening. Well at least you had the
sense to elect Obama.
What shocks me is that Congress didn't demand an audit of not only the
companies books, but the expense accounts of the individual executives.
Congress has failed the American people with their public dog and pony show
that yielded no worthwile information with regards to WHY the companies are
failing. I want FISCAL data before we make a decision. I suspect if we saw
some of the personal expenses written off to the company by the CEO's we'd
be even more appauled.
Let capitalism run it's course. These automakers have all made their own
beds from the union workers to the CEO's. Let them go the way of any other
industry that has been mismanaged and has put out a lousy product. I am
sick of paying in my taxes as a self employed, self made man to help prop
up a business that will never recover. The last 3 US made vehicles that
either I have bought personally, or for my business have been junk and have
cost me money. Screw em.
FinsterFlummoxing-I am with you as a self employed small business owner.
How can these companies be so irresponsible. I make enough money in 7
months to carry me throughout the year. During the other 5 months I am
looking for other contracts that allows me to continue building a safety
net financially, and pay for new equipment and technology to make me more
efficient. I spend this money very cautiously just like you do. I bet Henry
Ford is rolling in his grave.
Why is that guy still in the congress? General Motors plans to invest $1
billion in Brazil to avoid the kind of problems the U.S. automaker is
facing in its home market, said the beleaguered car maker. According to the
president of GM Brazil-Mercosur, Jaime Ardila, the funding will come from
the package of financial aid that the manufacturer will receive from the
U.S. government and will be used to "complete the renovation of the line of
products up to 2012."
I own and manage a relatively small company that sells medical equipment.
We're constantly working to find efficient ways to get the most bang for
our buck when it comes to expenses. I don't see why these large
corporations feel that they're immune to fiscal responsibility. It irks me
when I wake up to read that CITIGROUP got a huge bailout overnight,
meanwhile they've agreed to spend 400 million dollars for the naming rights
of the new stadium for the METS.
Foreign Cars Are Better than U.S. Cars
