Good one. As you said, so many of the factors they need to consider in the States doesn't apply in Canada since the average person can't carry here. (or use a gun at home for protection according to john law).

+rick pen Sure, right away:"The police say the alleged assailant was shot in the leg and a vehicle was also shot in the incident"Regardless who's vehicle it was, the home defense law does not apply to the area OUTSIDE your own "castle", it applies only INSIDE your own home simply b/c you have no more space to retreat from when you're already inside your home.As soon as the crooks start running away and they left the inside of your house, you're not allowed to use your firearms against them even when they try to steal your vehicle parked on your own property. No idea about that particular case but that's obvious that the shooting occurred OUTSIDE home-owners' house.BTW, those are charges only, and they have to be proven in court in order to finally render a criminal conviction.Feel free to post the link, CBC or whatever other news media, with the outcome of the court proceedings and eventual the final court ruling. At the end, the court ruling counts and not the dopy police charges.

+rick pen Buddy, you must be legally allowed to own firearms in Canada. That particular home-owner was already prohibited from handling firearms."The homeowner, Dave Sietsma, who is 29, has been charged with discharging a weapon with intent, and two counts of possession of a weapon and ammunition while prohibited"Most likely he either had an expired firearms license or an already-revoked one.Nice try, ain't gonna work with me.

Wise-up yourself smartass. A google search took all of five seconds to find a home owner charged after defending his home from intruders. //www.inews880.com/2015/11/21/northern-alberta-homeowner-charged-after-shooting-intruder/

+rick pen "use a gun at home for protection"Conservatives and PM Stephen Harper, 66% of Canadians hate them to death as per last federal election, have changed the self-defense law, now you are allowed to defend yourself with a firearm (mostly NR) inside your own home.Bill C-26, the Citizen’s Arrest and Self-defence Act, S.C. 2012 c. 9, came into force on March 11, 2013.The legislation replaces the old Criminal Code provisions on self-defence and defence of property with new and reformed defenses.//www.justice.gc.ca/eng/rp-pr/other-autre/rsddp-rlddp/pdf/c26.pdfWise-up.

Great vid. Quick question though, The Shooting Edge - are you affiliated with this jackass named JR who kickstarted the entire Swiss Arms and CZ 858 prohibition fiasco in Canada by virtue of being a whiny little bitch and complaining to RCMP about a competing business that ended up hurting the entire Canadian Firearms community?

+Meharban Hundal Yes, but he apologized quite sincerely, and there's no use dwelling on the past. Just drop it already, we need firearms owners to unite and quite the bullshit infighting/divisiveness. It was a mistake, it was fixed, time to move on, and keep pushing for positive change.

Your handguns are useless in Canada as you can't use them for what they're intended for.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-rySHR7RRAxA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAADNg/cnmC0xhvPOE/photo.jpg?sz=64
+chrossphyre This is the new law://www.justice.gc.ca/eng/rp-pr/other-autre/rsddp-rlddp/p5.htmlThe new law is for the COURTS and NOT for the Canadian cops who couldn't care less about any form of self-defense laws in Canada.Canadian cops will most likely charge you no matter what, that's how they are taught in the police college that firearms cannot be used in ANY circumstances other than lawfully hunting, target shooting and sports competition. This is the Canadian ideology vis-a-vis firearms and they (cops) will never risk a pretty damn good govt job like no other by acting like a renegade cop in favor of home-defense with a firearm. Now, the perfect case scenario when even cops will have a hard time laying firearms charges against you:- a home owner INSIDE his/her own house (or apartment),- suddenly an armed (knife included) intruder successfully gets into the house,- home owner has time to load his/her legally-owned NR (NOT R) firearm and starts loudly warning the armed trespasser that he MUST leave immediately,- home owner has time to dial 911,- armed trespasser becomes aggressive and then violent walking towards the now-armed home owner,- home owner realizes that his/her life is now in very danger and he/she has no room to retreat,- ultimately when armed trespasser does not give up and keep on walking towards the armed home owner, home owner has no choice but to fire a shell or bullet into trespassers' body.- cops show up (as always) soon AFTER.Everything was recorded LIVE (with date & time stamped on the video) on home-owners indoor surveillance video cameras, video AND audio.Feel free to make your case for crown prosecutor to lay charges on the home owner and then for the courts IF they will ever convict the home owner.Go ahead, your turn now.

+Chris RoadWarrior What you may believe and what the law actually allows in Canada differ substantially. Your unbelief does not exempt you. You can THINK whatever you like. In the end your attitude will not protect you from the consequences of your actions. I currently shoot in Aylmer, so I am aware of the situation here in Ontario versus the way regulations are interpreted in Alberta.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-rySHR7RRAxA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAADNg/cnmC0xhvPOE/photo.jpg?sz=64
+chrossphyre Again. I'm not a damn Liberal or NDP, Green or whatever other left-wing individual to believe in any kind of left-wing ideology.I don't need the damn govt to brainwash me on what to think on a particular issue.I'm not born in this country and therefore I have ZERO Canadian "values" in my blood, other than a Canadian passport and citizenship card in my wallet.I strongly believe that in a free society it's your RIGHT to freely use a product (and I'm talking here about the Rs) that is legally sold on the Canadian market (you use your own money, pay taxes, and have a valid firearms license) as long as you don't use it for threats, crimes, terrorist activities, etc.For me, no difference btwn buying your own home, or car, computer, smartphone, etc. and a legally-sold firearm at Bass Pro Shop in Vaughan, Ontario.Never been to Alberta, nor anywhere west of Ontario but in time travelled thru entire Continental USA (48 states).IF I want to go to a range with my NR shotgun, I chose only those places that offer day passes like this one for instance://www.silverdalegunclub.com/new-shooter-inexperienced-packages/
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Chris RoadWarrior I think you are missing my point, which I am loathe to repeat (pearls, swine and all that). I was a member at this Calgary gun club for 3 years and worked weekends there as Range Officer/Sales for two years so I am well versed in the membership fees there and the costs involved to justify them. Whether you are or are not a"damn Liberal" is moot. It's not about ideology, it's about the current law.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-rySHR7RRAxA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAADNg/cnmC0xhvPOE/photo.jpg?sz=64
+chrossphyre "I don't think you can differentiate the ownership of restricted firearms in Canada and the ownership of non-restricted firearms"Yes you can and very easily, no registration for NRs (thank you PM Stephen Harper), registration for Rs, no ATT for NRs, still ATT for Rs, no club/range membership required for NRs, mandatory club/range membership for Rs (btw, go to this Calgary gun club website and see for yourself the astronomical membership fee for their members), allowed to use NRs for hunting, also on private property and crown land, no hunting, private poverty or crown land for Rs.Also an unofficial CC for NRs, the only restriction while taking it out of your home (your car included) is to have it unloaded, no cable or trigger lock required.Clear now, NRs vs. Rs, if that's not a clear double standard, I don't know what else it is."...since both are by law a privilege and not a right"I'm not a damn Liberal to believe in that particular left-wing ideology."I also have a shotgun and rifles which I also like to be competent in the use of when I am at the range"Crown land ONLY for me (max 2 times per year), and all free, well, I pay for gas to/from crown land.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Chris RoadWarrior I don't think you can differentiate the ownership of restricted firearms in Canada and the ownership of non-restricted firearms, since both are by law a privilege and not a right. This privilege we enjoy can be rescinded at any time with the stroke of a political pen (or, some might justifiably argue, the stroke of an RCMP bureaucrat's pen). So your choice of sticking to non-restricted firearms does no confer any additional right of ownership as opposed to a non-restricted firearm. I also have a shotgun and rifles which I also like to be competent in the use of when I am at the range. You may well be correct - Trudeau could well repeat the mistakes of his political ancestors and pander to his vote base with ineffective firearms regulation. But until that time you will find me at the range practicing my holster drills and trigger control.

+Chris RoadWarrior, I'm totally being sarcastic here just in case your sarcasm meter is off..
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Chris RoadWarrior, "TCHC complex" why am I not surprised? Sure I totally agree here, let them all carry a gun in that social housing complex, why not, let them off each other so less dickheads in the prison fed on taxpayers dollar.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-rySHR7RRAxA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAADNg/cnmC0xhvPOE/photo.jpg?sz=64
+chrossphyre Don't worry, I know ALL about Canada's gun control laws from 19th century and up to present days.Canadians voted massively (66%) against CPC and PM Stephen Harper (IMO the best PM in Canada's modern history), Liberal Party is notorious for its very strict gun control laws therefore I give you max 2 years until the current (excellent) ATT rules in effect since Sept 2, 2015 will go back to the pre-Common Sense Firearms Licensing Act of June 18, 2015.I'm an RPAL holder and own a pistol-grip Mossberg 500 JIC Cruiser, pretty much for home defense only.I can legally use it on private property AND crown land as well. And no damn registration or ATT required.Allow CC or OC in Canada and get rid of that damn mandatory club/range-membership requirement, and I'll be the first one to legally buy a handgun. But until then...PS Texas CC/OC policy://www.txdps.state.tx.us/RSD/CHL/faqs/index.htm
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Chris RoadWarrior Not sure where you are going with this Chris. You seem to believe that owning a pistol or revolver in Canada is a waste of time due to the current government restrictions (which I am not sure you are current on, given your statement about the ATT, which has been made a part of the RPAL license since last September). Apparently you don't see the value in any of the many genres of pistol and revolver skills practiced by various groups of Canadians such as Cowboy Action, IDPA, IPSC, 3-gun, Bullseye and the like. For me, overcoming the difficulties associated with placing a pistol bullet in the right place, at speed, under duress is a skill I like to develop just because I find it personally fulfilling. Pistol and revolver disciplines are some of the most challenging physical and mental tests out there, one that requires constant practice and refinement. Achieving a high degree of competency is it's own reward.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-rySHR7RRAxA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAADNg/cnmC0xhvPOE/photo.jpg?sz=64
+chrossphyre So you spend a ton of money (taxes included) on something (R firearms in this case) the damn govt always tell you where (gun club or range only) and when (MUST ask for a damn ATT to transport your own property outside your home) to use it, right? Are you proud of that? The main purpose of legally buying a handgun is for self-protection outside your own home, CC or OC.Unless you're a LEO or an armed security guard and you need your own handgun to regularly train for the job on your own time, knowing Canada's historic gun control laws on handguns in civilian hands, only a sucker would buy a handgun in Canada.I'm a Canadian RPAL holder.

+Benjamin Zhang "I don't have any bad guys to shoot around here"I'm pretty sure you don't live in Toronto, CANADA.//www.torontosun.com/2016/01/21/two-slain-in-separate-shootings
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
+johnperos My hand guns are intended for fun, learning experience, practice, competition and most importantly they are simply my prized possessions...so they are intended for many things, yes shooting bad guys is one of them but I don't have any bad guys to shoot around here, carry laws or no carry laws, don't matter to me personally. I guess if I feel like shooting someone I can always visit the US with cash strapped on my chest at midnight "wink" ;)
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
+johnperos Being competent with a firearm is never a waste of time, regardless of what the government of the day allows. The Canadian firearms scene is developing faster than ever, and the number of well trained, well informed, competent firearms owners in Canada is increasing. So no, our handguns are not useless just because the law does not allow us to own them for defensive purposes.
