LOVE this book but I also did not know some of the big lit history you
shared in the beginning, so thank you for that! It's kind of hugely
important context. I might have to read up on that some myself and then
re-read this. One day.
Totally spot on point about how exhausting it is to see misogynistic
bullshit in much later works.
I just love everything about this review.
Thank you! It's interesting, but misogyny never came up as a reason her work was kind of forgotten (not just that she challenged it, but that she was a woman in the 1930s), but I suspect it played a part. I'm so glad her work was rediscovered.
I really enjoyed your video and didn't know all the context about ZNH
myself! I read both this book and Kate Chopin's "The Awakening" in my
junior AP English class. I don't think I appreciated those texts at the
time I read them, but I always thought back to them as I grew up. I need to
re-read them, and also I want to read her autobiography.
It's nice that you read different books than the rest of booktube!
Sometimes it's annoying to watch 20 reviews on the same book. I just found
your channel and I'm really really enjoying your videos x
I taught Their Eyes Were Watching God and it was such a special experience.
The kids actually read the parts out loud and it was hysterical. I love
that book so much.
Really great review, I love how insightful and informative your book
reviews always are, it really adds to the video, I shall definitely be
looking into this book!
I read this book in February and I really enjoyed it and I was also
surprised at the way it was written and how the women are portrayed. Loved
it.
I read The Autobiography of an Ex Colored Man by James Weldon Johnson, and
thought it was a great insight in the life of colored people at the turn of
the 20th century.
Thanks for the recommendation! I'm embarrassed that I'm just now seeing what a huge gap there is in what I know of African American literature between really shortly after slavery was abolished and the civil rights movement.
I read this book my senior year of high school and loved it. My class read
is right before we read some Hemingway novel and we talked about that same
issue you brought up! It really puts hemingways misogyny in the forefront
when compared with her work.
WHAT'S THE POINT OF LAYERING YOUR FACE WHEN YOU CAN SIMPLY USE CORRECTOR
AND FOUNDATION TO HAVE THE SAME EFFECT??? WHAT ELSE WILL PPL INVENT TO EARN
MONEY AND MAKE CLOWNS OF THEMSELVES???
I really have no idea how women looked like before the color correcting was invented :) Instead of inventing techniques to prevent pimples and skin issues, they invent layers of makeup to poison your skin and your liver..cause nobody thinks that everything we put on our skin, goes through our blood and our liver has to deal with it... :) good luck girl
When I apply foundation/concealer my pimples are still quite red (not from blending my makeup. Just in general). And my eye bags are still very noticeable and dark. So yeah, colour correcting does help(:
I have extremely dark circles and i have olive skin. After trying on an
orange corrector under my concealer it gave me major lines. So many lines
appeared under my eyes:( how can I prevent it from happening???
+Raghad .A.H also try placing a matt/ with no colour for example, powder, so that the liquid make up doesnt give the lines. you could use a brush to apply this powder over your make up and on your whole face. it also helps to make it last longer.
its called creases, pull down your skin and blend it with your fingers
Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has To Travel - OFFICIAL TRAILER
We are proud to present the official trailer of Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has To Travel. It will be out in theaters in NY and LA on September 21st, 2012. It will also ...
+bindasbolre if we're talking who made more money for conde nast, Anna. If we're talking who's a genius and a, sorry the fashion Empress, Diana Vreeland.
the criteria to become a catwalk model is basically to have a waify anorexic body. i rather see kim with her curves that a starving model on the cover. Either ways both might have taken different approaches but in the end of the day they are getting paid for how they look!...not exactly a notable achievement.
For starters, professional models are not porn stars. Secondly, Kim could never meet the criteria to be a catwalk model. Her dress on that cover took up most of the page for example. Good models have the ability to pose and work with professional photographers in any setting - they have range. Kim has one look - duck lips.
+bindasbolre I understand what you are saying. Vogue was a fashion Bible before Anna came along though. Anna put celebrities on the cover instead of models which was revolutionary at the time but now we have the likes of Kim Kardashian on the cover. I hope they return to a more artistic form instead of just chasing sales figures.
+gregbez But Anna made Vogue what it is today!....without her vogue might just have been nothing more than one of the numerous fashion magazine on the newstand
+bindasbolre One cannot even begin to compare the two. Diana was an artist who set the scene for creativity. Anna is a corporate shill who would sell the Vogue legacy down the river for a piece of gold.
I enjoyed this documentary so much! I bought the dvd years ago and have
watched it several times. What an amazing life this woman lived. What an
impact she made on the fashion world ..... the world itself! I have read
"DV", the book co-written with George Plympton, and The Empress of Fashion
by Stuart. Every book and video about her, I've found to be fascinating.
There should be a movie made about her life... a new one. Juliette
Stevenson should play her part (She played her in "Infamous", a movie about
Truman Capote, and captured her personality perfectly). Until then this
documentary will keep me happy. It surpasses all others about Diana
Vreeland. Oh, and I'm going to get the perfume too!!!!
