+MASTERULEZ Some classes can be mixed grades, like study hall according to MASTERULEZ, or elective classes like spanish. I remember there was one senior in my spanish 2 class when I was in high school.
+gudalpesanz the grandmother? Yeah, LOL. I just noticed something though.... watch the grandmother attempt to get in the car before they back up. You can see her on the outside hunched over, I don't really think she gets in the car. But when they stop and find Long Duck Dong (lol) she gets out of the car.....
Actor Gedde Watanabe who played the Asian guy was born in Utah and had to
fake the "Chinese" accent by mocking his Korean friend's accent. I think
it is shameful for Asian actors to sell-out by taking on such degrading
character roles and propagating the stereotypes. Why is it that when there
is an Asian male character in American movies these days, they are either
gay or geeks or idiots?? Whatever happened to the days of better Asian
male characters like those played by Bruce Lee or Jackie Chan or others
like them? I know a lot of Asian men and none of them are anything like
the sorry characters that we see in movies today.
+Schone23666 Schone, I am glad you are half Korean and were not offended by Watanabe's portrayal of the idiot Asian in sixteen candles. I am white. I am only a minority when I travel overseas. However, I have long fought in defense of minorities who suffer from poor social image and much of that poor social image is created and promoted by film and media. Being a white guy handing in white social circles, I can tell you without any doubt that Watanabe's character in sixteen candles put the Asian male image right back to 1945. Any gains that were made in the 1970's were crushed by Watanabe proving to the world that even Asian males think the stereotype given to them was OK as he played the stereotypical Asian male being an impotent, idiotic, friendless, dickless creep living on the outer fringe. and not belonging to white circles. It was and still is painful for me to see Asian men being mocked by these stereotypes both behind their backs and to their faces. It is doubly painful to see Asian men like Watanabe and others promote these images by acting them out or going along with them. when I hear a white say about an Asian man who is being humiliated by stereotype teasing, the words "He (the Asian man) knows how to take a joke" means "he does not have the balls to stand up for himself".If you are a half Asian who ever lived in a white society, you surely have experienced this kind of negativity. I am not Asian, but it does sicken and infuriate me
+Guiding Mike ??????????I'm half Korean myself and I didn't see anything wrong with this scene, it was hilarious. The whole movie was meant as a far-out coming-of-age comedy (with a few dramatic moments) and clearly wasn't taking itself seriously. Long Duk Dong IMO was deliberately played this way for laughs to mock the stereotype you're talking about, and plus, he's a fish out of the water from China and now stuck in suburban America. Anyone who's lived in another country, outside of their comfort zone is going to go through the same thing.
+Nun Ya yes, I think I would like a tissue, thank you. All up until maybe 1965? Asians were portrayed as dickless idiots and they were usually played by white guys. Then FINALLY came Kato in The Green Hornet and Bruce Lee kicking ass until 1973 when he died. For one solid decade we had some cool Asian characters in movies and thanks to the martial arts phenom, Asian men were cool - as they should be. THEN, in the 1980's, we had guys like Gedde Watanabe who was a genuine gay and had no problem taking on roles that once again portrayed Asian men as queer imbaciles who cannot pronounce English words. This time, of course, rather than white guys dressing up as Asians with thick glasses and buck teeth, we have real Asians willing to prove to the world that Hollywoods stereotypes are true. Somehow, it is no longer PC to portray blacks as hayseed morons, but it is still OK to show Asian men as puny, stupid gay or ambiguous creatures who have to prance outside the mainstream circles. Meanwhile, their beautiful Asian female counterparts take on sexy powerful action hero roles who have romance with...you guessed it; white guys or sometimes black guys, but rarely if ever Asian guys. Hollywood sucks and shame on Asian men for not stepping up to the plate to change these aweful stereotypes.
She calls him a total fag. Exactly. She isn't a homophobic hater. It's
just the word people used to let someone know that they were not behaving
appropriately.

Candele profumate fatte in casa (no cera) - Scented candles home-made (no wax)
Ciao a tutti!
dissociati :-(
Cos'altro posso usare come colorante?
Ciao!
Non so
piu come fare!
