Don's Cook Vlog: Grilled Chicken with Broccoli, Mushrooms, and Quinoa
In this video I show you how to make one of Jen and my favorite healthy dishes: Grilled Chicken with Steamed Broccoli, Sauteed Mushrooms with Garlic, and ...
I agree, you can't have too much broccoli - good & good for you!
Congratulations on another great Cook Nook! Woo Hoo on your homemade garlic
paste! I'm anxious to hear how you like the Costco Quinoa, as I didn't
think there would be much difference between brands of grain. I've never
had Quinoa but I'm getting up the nerve to try it... maybe. I'm not a fan
of couscous & the look sort of reminds me of that (but I'm hoping it's more
rice-like). You're very charming & engaging as per usual. TFS!
I would love to hear if you've eaten at one of those great "celebrity" chef
spots like Alice Waters Chez Panisse, Thomas Keller's French Laundry or
Momofuku and what your impression was. I would imagine Chicago has a number
of restaurants from different star chefs. Also, on that final bite you
had...it's funny about human psychology, if someone doesn't taste the food
they just prepared in a video it seems unsatisfying, like it ended to soon,
I don't know, just one of those things.
Just copying a reply I made below to a similar question: I am not very good
at cleaning/care routines or anything like that... My only secret is that
usually after I cook something, I turn the heat up to high and let it go
for 5 minutes or so. That helps cook off any debris that the food left
behind, and then I just scrub everything off with my grill brush. That's
really all I do. PS - not sure what the brand of my grill is but I do
remember it was ridiculously expensive lol
Looks yummy Don! One idea on what to do with the mushroom stems is combine
them with some crackers, cheese, garlic and olive oil, put it all through
the food chopper like you did for the garlic paste, and then you can
actually stuff the mushroom tops with the filling, top with a little more
shredded cheese, and pop them in the toaster oven for about 7-10 mins, or
under the broiler for a few mins. De
Hi Don, love your cook nooks! I was wondering if you could do a video
showing how you clean/maintain your bbq grill and what kind of grill you
own (in your opinion what type grill grates are the best to cook on). Your
grill is so clean and properly maintained I would love to get some tips and
ideas. My grill is a mess; I have no idea how to start cleaning w/o
damaging the cast iron! Thanks a bunch!
Hmm I did not expect to get that request! I am not very good at
cleaning/care routines or anything like that... My only secret is that
usually after I cook something, I turn the heat up to high and let it go
for 5 minutes or so. That helps cook off any debris that the food left
behind, and then I just scrub everything off with my grill brush. That's
really all I do.
Yummers! Will have to try quinoa. bought a bag a couple of years ago, a tad
expensive, but just couldn't open it for some reason; expired in May this
year...so threw it away. Where were you when I needed you!! :) after
watching Vegucated (sp?) on Netflix, haven't been able to eat meat...5
weeks now... so need protein alternatives. mushrooms look great too. TFS!!
The Costco brand was just as good as what we had been getting from Whole
Foods. Don't worry, the texture is not like couscous (although I can see
why you might have that concern!). It's much softer, like a light and
delicate rice. Give it a try! :-)
LOL sorry I can't help you there. Jen has the most sensitive nose of anyone
I've ever met, and if I eat even a tiny bit of raw onion she can't stand my
breath for a couple days after, but for whatever reason garlic breath is
never a problem.
Yeah exactly, the peeled garlic is a pretty good deal. It's funny b/c for
other prepared stuff like broccoli already cleaned and chopped the markup
over buying it whole is like 200-300%, but for the garlic it's a great
deal. Don't ask me why!
Yes, that's the approach pretty much every time. You want a hot grill to
get a nice sear, and you want some oil to prevent sticking as well as to
help build a delicious crust. More outdoor cooking to come this summer for
sure! :-)
You definitely want to start the cooking process with the grill still on
high to get a nice sear. I think I left it on high the whole time but it's
probably better to turn it down just a little once you get both sides
seared.
looks so yummy! I have one question what camera do you use for filming
this? and what camera does Jen use for her vlogging? Because im looking to
get a new camera myself but not sure what to get. thank you!
I am so glad you chop off the hard ends on the garlic. I do that as well. I
have seen cooks on t.v. that do not and it seems like it would be
unpleasant to bite into that hard piece in any dish you cook.
I had just about decided to unsubscribe from the channel until I watched
this video. This looks so delicious and healthy! I'm headed to Costco now
to buy that quinoa! Thanks Don!
Thank you for showing this Don, especially the quinoa preparation. When I
buy chicken breast, I always rinse it under running water and pat it dry.
Just an extra safety step :)
