Magnacharger, headers, heads small cam running on run flat street tires.
Which is why I had to roll off the line easy. I had severe traction
problems. Otherwise I would have probably hit the 10's.
yea i have an 01 with jba shorty headers, intake, exhaust and the maggie
122 and the best i did was 12.20 at 112 so wondering how u got that 120mph
whats heads and cam did u install?
Im running AFR 205 heads and a small GT2-3 Lingenfelter cam. I have a
bigger cam for it that should give me more top end, , but just havent got
around installing it yet.
the difference between procharger and magnacharger is how the boost is
being accomplished, the term supercharged refers to a belt driven
compressor, that delivers a charge of air and fuel to the cylinder that is
more than the piston could take in naturally, by force, also known as
forced induction, this super-charge of air and fuel is also attainable by a
turbo, or turbocharged which is an air compressor driven by a common shaft
from the exhaust gas, anyway look up the difference between the two
the procharger is a centrifugal supercharger, basically a belt driven turbo
it makes boost proportionally to rpm, off the line it might not make as
much power, depending what rpm u launch at but will come in through the
higher rpms and be very efficient, the magnacharger which is a roots type
blower can make full boost as low as 2000 rpm which leads to tire shredding
off the line torque but at high rpms there can be an efficiency problem
caused by inlet air temps both have thier ups and downs
The C5 Magnacharger (like the one you see) has a pulley in the front that
connects to a rear pulley set in the back to spin the rotors. The LSx
Magnachargers that take air from the front are the same (C5/C6/GTO
LS1/LS6/LS2) the Radix (4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L trucks) takes the air from the
rear. Go to Magnachargers website to see better pics of this. LSx
magnachargers take air in the front to help compact them. You have to
change the hood just to fit it in a C5/C6 unless you cut a hole in it.
You'd need to get forged... everything (pistons, crank, etc), A new clutch
or auto tranny, a 9 inch 12 bolt rear differential. I'd probably have the
engine ported/polished just to ensure its getting proper CFMs, with that
much boost you'd also have to upgrade the fuel system, bigger injectors,
better fuel up, maybe even new lines. Finally, you'd have to get a pro
(preferably anyway) to tune it, so that you don't destroy the engine. Among
other things I know that I'm forgetting.
I love the D1SC but LMSpeeds new HTV2300 units looks bad ass. Ed Potter
from LMSpeed emailed me some install pics with the new blower and it looks
like it fits alittle better under the cowl than the 112 blower. I asked if
the new blower was too big for a stock cube LS1 and they said it works
great. They said it starts making boost right off idle. Woo Hoo!!! Since i
plan on keeping my '02 SS A4 a street car i like the idea of instant torque
:)
The Magnacharger is the name used for the type of blower that is on the
car. The blower assembly is made by Magnuson, using a Eaton MP112 like the
ones used on the 03-04 Cobra, and Ford GT etc. This particular kit was
actually designed for the C5 Corvette. I have hit about 11#'s of boost on
the street, on the dyno I have only hit about 9 which got the car over
500HP at the wheels and over 400TQ at the wheels around 2200 RPM's.
Can you get a Magnacharger to put out more then 150-200 H.P extra ? i mean
i'm talking i want Serious power i've got a 2002 Convertable triple black
SS all i have on it right now is Racing exhaust Flowmaster Outlaw Series
but i want to see if there is a magna charger that would give me an extra
300-400 horse power money is no object i was just curious if they made them
that powerful or not and if so what's the name please ?.
The cam does have a nice lope to it but its exadurated by the QTP headers
and Loud Mouth. The cam is a Speed Inc custom grind they offer for SC cars.
It does not effect my boost as it has a 117 LSA. I got this cam so it would
have that lope on purpose. I have been changing my setup though and changed
cams. New video will be out soon. The cam's profile is 226/234 .598/.599
117. It is called the SC3 cam from Speed Inc
@n4schristian It can run more. Its nearly impossible to compair what your
car ran and this one without being at the same track. Did you run your car
in Georgia in the summer heat with a DA of over 2500ft? If not its really
hard to compair. I been to alot of tracks and seen guys pick up .5-1.5
seconds just from weather, DA and track location. I have seen them loose
just as much as well. Too many variables.
I have not heard of any going yet, several thousands of these on Corvettes,
GTO's, Trucks (Radix). If it did go it would not be too bad. Not much worse
then when any other belt would go. It looks close by the angle but there is
more room then you can see in that little video. I made a few other videos
on here with the kit. Sure can run into one of these days, shoot me an
email.......
I have not posted recently but I had an oil consumption issue and after
fixing that issue this car made 528RWHP/524RWTQ @ 9lbs of boost. It made
500TQ @ 3K RPMS and @ 1700 RPMS it made 400TQ. Pictures of this setup can
be seen on my web site as well badmonkeymotorsports dot com. ITs tuned
right. Also have to mention you have to lower your K memeber to make this
fit as well
I have used Centri's before I use to have a Procharged C5. I know of a few
people running forced induction on LT1's. One I know of has a 383 and a
P1SC ATI makes damn good power. They are great boost comes in around 3500
so it does not kill you MPG either with them. Vortech, and ATI make kits
for the LT1 and produce pretty good numbers with the right supporting parts.
I can see a stock bottom end LS1 running in the 10.9's on low boost when
you add heads with some compression dropped, a nice cam, headers and
catback. I also like the fact with the new blower you have the option to
run a MAF. And i love the look of the blower under the hood on the LS1
f-body. I hope my car looks like that in the future :)
Several things have to happen to make it fit. Basically its a kit offered
by LM Speed in Decatur, IN. He is on the internet check for him on ls1tech
he is a sponser on there. I listed a web site a few posts back if you like
email me at the address on that site and I can give you better details. I
will run out of room here.
I had a procharger before on my Procharger C5 it made 501RWHP/463RWTQ at
12#'s of boost. That was a stock block LS1. This kit stock short block, and
9#'s of boost made 200 more TQ at 3000 RPM's, and over 100 more peak TQ
then the procharger. And it did it with less boost. My website has details
on my previous setups.
They are both good superchargers. I prefer the magnacharger for the street
for applications around 550 or less, the procharger when you want more.
They both can get you 550 easy, the prochrager will just get you over that
much better and easier than the Maggie. I own a procharger now on my TBSS.
@freespm74 I setup most my cars to run mid 11's. This car was every bit of
in that grove, but I never had the chance to run it. I sold it before I got
the chance to run it. The guy taht bought it from me ran a mid 7 in the 1/8
with it though if my memory serves me correctly.
a procharger is a belt driven supercharger not an exhaust spooled
turbocharger...it's a centrifugal type which does not use "screws`to force
the air..that is the difference..that`s why they look like turbochargers
from one side as opposed to the screw type eatons
The car made 505RWHP/480RWTQ. Its running rich needs a bit more fine tuning
but overall it runs strong. It makes over 400RWTQ at 1600 RPM's. When its
done we should be around 530RWHP or so for cost email at damon at
badmonkeymotorsports dot com for more details.
@TransAm5667 Cutting teh cowl is the hardest part. Everything else is cake.
Its actually fairly easy. Especially if you get teh complete kit. If you
take your time, its really not that hard. After the few I have installed by
far the Magnacharger is the easiest.
Thats sick bro. I love the idea of a maggie on an fbodie, especially camaro
ss. BTW: are U in Frankfort? I am right down the road in Salvisa(Mercer
County) right past L_burg. Hit me up. I wouldn't mind racing even though Im
sure U'd pull me hard up top ;)
There is a jack shaft on the left side (passenger side) that lines up with
teh standard accessories and it spins the pulleys in teh back. It the exact
same blower that the 1997-2004 Corvette uses. The snout is the only major
difference blower wise.
The KB will not fit the F Body without major modification and to this day
there is no street driven KB 4th Gen FBody that I know of. Just to make
this fit I had to modify it under the cowl that is why I zoomed in on it
back there so people can see.
Thanks, I like prochargers I use to have one on my C5. This kit makes alot
more torque down low for my needs and driving habits in my area. Procharger
was a consideration but was gonna cost more to get what I wanted for what
this already does.
nothin really the all cost the same and do the same but magnacharger is the
way to go from wut i heard o magnachargers are a posative replacement wich
from wut i herd is the best and last the longest for these engines
It's crank driven like all superchargers. This one has a small pulley on
the back and a rod on the other side that has 2 pullies one to turn the
pulley on the blower and one on the front to be turned by the crank.
honnestly i love supercharged cars but the roots type blowers use to much
horse power they take around 100 + horse power to run i would stick with a
procharger but again its baised on personal preff
Tell me, how did you get the Magnacharger to fit underneath your cowl? I
have been VERY interested in getting a Magnacharger onto my LS1 but I have
been being held back by other factors.
He probably doesnt have one anymore. You can convert a Mass airflow system
to a speed density system that doesnt use a MAF sensor with a stand alone
or piggyback fuel management system.
Supercharged C5 Z06 walk around
This is my 02 z06 with a Magnuson Supercharger, headers, x pipe borla mufflers etc. Also its running a little rich in this vid Please subscribe to my channel!
its making aroung 550bhp. The only regret or recomendation i can give you
is make sure you have the crank double lock keyed before installing the
supercharger. otherwise you might have the harmonic balencer come off when
under a lot of pressure.
