Crysis 3 Maxed out Intel 3570K R9 290 Crossfire

I have recently upgraded to a multi GPU configuration which includes tow R9 290's. Now I am using an Intel z77 platform with a quad core i5 3570k processor.

you gotta hit alt+enter , the fullscreen will activate the crossfire, this is i just one card working
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-NPHBlu9yeRs/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAABA/TW0hPOQ0r_0/photo.jpg?sz=64
Both cards are working, the low fps was from the intel 3570k creating a bottleneck. If you observe the GPU load you will see that both cards are in use in this video

bang4buck, yea totally. i just gave crysis 3 a run-through, out of complete curiosity, and it seems that the visual quality of 2560 1440 with 2x mgpu aa and all things cranked max with NO motion blur, i receive around 68-80 frames consistently through those parts of your run through where your dropping to mid 30s at worse, i drop to 63 at worst, so give or take and thats with 8x aa on 1080. so the extra hyper-threading in this game and possibly others is what is releasing the full potential of my cards and intel is the king of speed, no argument their clock instruction cycles are faster by 25-35% and they operate stock at 1 ghz lower than AMD. I wouldnt mind owning a 9370, but thats prob the only Processor line, FX, that would interest me but the high voltage and heat would be a dealbreaker for people wanting to save 3$ a month on the electricty bill, otheriwse it does not matter. Keep the i5 and enjoy the games maxed with a hair lower aa and youll be totally happy with your two 290s, i know that i AM :-)

if you will be willing to lower the graphic settings to high or medium on some titles, with no anti aliasing i say, go for it. hell yea. just make sure the monitor is what you want, again TN is worse at color shifts than ips and thats important, otherwise 1440 youll be able to crank a few more settings of lights or ambient occlusions and antia alising, which also still bring sharpness and claritty. Im totally happy with it, personally i dont think we sit close enough to a monitor to see and more than 1920 1080, but i have double that and its so clear.. 4k, hmmmm but id love to see one in person to understand what they really look and feel like. IPS 4k or IPS 1440. Don't waste your money on 4 K at this premium price, while even a single card fails to perform admirably. wait a few yrs, and by then freesync will be available from amd to syn with your monitor instead of a se number where every frame syncs. ID get something cheap now, and in 6 months to a yr or so upgrade then, but definitely  grab the 2nd 290, like today before theyr gone LOL

+Tim Wills Hmm... just get a 1440p and hold out until 4k is more mainstream and lower cost?Should I just make the jump to 4k now and get another 290 and play on lower settings?I can get a TN 4k monitor for the cost of an ips 1440p.So much to think about, the market is unpredictable at this point in time.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
we dont. Your right IPS is superior visual quality to tn, the only thing TN has is the ULTRA fast response times, and faster frame output/The 290 on its own will struggle to push 120- 144 FPS IN MOST CURRENT GAMES, ESPECIALLY at 1440 res, if your serious about 1440, which takes away the majority of the needto antialias because of the almost double pixel count, then a mild overlock to say 75-85 is certainly doable with those panels, mine is overclockable to 85 and im just happy with it as i can be. Coming from 30fps consoles, its still is triple the frames i ever had then, 120-144 would be nice, but where technology stands and the lack of ips 1440 120 144 hz monitors, id say just use your senses and get a fairly priced monitor, koreans fine.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-8NMJaMkohUU/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAw/NzD_SwKRCMo/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Tim Wills Hmm, lots to think about. Gonna have to choose if ips is worth double the price :/ chances are 1440p prices will plummet in 2015 though, 4k won't be the main res for at least 1-2 more years i fear. I don't think we have the GPU power in a single card yet.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
Yes bud, one 290 will cut the 1440 res, amd Intentionally designed the r9 290(xcards for that res. You may need to turn down a show setting here and there depending on what frame goal your seeking, but running 76 hz with one 290 for shadow of mordor with shadows set from ultra to high  did the job, also ambient oclusion set down in some games a teeny, and you can still enjoy all the great textures your 290 can handle. those 290s are steals right now, if my motherboard could handle a third id do it, but not gunna cuz two is perfect as well. Id encourage the 2nd for crosffire but they r powerful cards alone. they compete evenly with the Titans in gaming, and those will last some time, especial;ly if every yr or so you lower a setting or two, youll be enjoying gmames for many yrs. Also i would encourage dual channel memory  mode for your ra, so if you only have one stick, adding another will not only increase your cpu benchmarks etc, but will improve load times, and just about everything else, dual channel memory MUCH better than single dimm, My opinion. Especially with Unoptimized games, where one might struggle, the 2nd could prove useful in helping with all that. And finally monitor, I have an ips panel, paid 600$ for it. Dont be too scared to spend your money on a nice monitor, go for a reputuable company so if ever a problem they can honor their companies. If you go korean(which is smart and i nudge towards that) youll save money and be probably fine with it. IPS is the quality you should carefor as the colors are much moire vibrant and colorful than TN panels which are fast, but crappy colors.. CHoose wisely. Also overlcock you 1866 to 2133, just takes one second go from 14 multiplier to 16 with a voltage bump to 1.65 and your set for better ram speed now for free/Usually you can go one speed up no problem, and probably two...

+Tim Willshmm, lots of info, thank youI got 4790k 4.4ghz, Asus Z97 Pro, R9 290 tri-X stock 1000/1300, 8gb G.Skill 1866, and a corsair HX-850w (gold)I think power would be fine, my CPU never draws more than 100w. I was thinking of getting a Korean 1440p monitor, since they are only $300 and can oc to 96-120hz. Should I just wait for mainstream companies to release 1440p cheaper? Is your Asus a TN or an ips display? I can't justify paying $600 for mainbrand TN panels when the Korean ones are only $300 and look comparable.also do you find you NEED 2 290's to play 1440p, or would it be almost ultra with one 290? I know BF4 ultra with no AA in 135% rs (simulated 1440p) I run the same as 1080p all ultra.

Thanks for running the tests, it's good to hear that your getting great performance. The whole point of this video was just to prove that i5 is capable at still playing smoothly even when the cores are maxed out. If I ever feel this is an issue it would be no problem for me to swap out the 3570k with a 3770K. Thanks for info dude I appreciate it

I have Crossfire Sapphire Tri-X 290 1050, 1350I7 4770k 4.2 watercooled with H100iMSI GAming 5 MoboGskill 16gb 21331050 Silver PowerBlu-Ray Drive120 GB SSD(Boot)240 GB SSD some games and programs, and 2TB HDD for all games and storage.A million fans inside my NZXT Phantom WHite caseYea man, about AMD, the base frequencies are ok, but they really begin competing with i7 when they r pushed past five gigahertz, some people with 5.1-5.5 overclocks on water and perfroms better than stock i7 so, its all a gimme and gamble, depending on how many cores the program will take advantage of. what processor do you have and what memory do you have. I would absolutely reccomend crossfiring the trix up with the vapor-x as the primary card as these cards at 2560 and 4k compete head to head with 980 at those resolutions, at 1080, 980wins, but as the resolution increase, amds 512 Bit bus shows its muscles, and in crossfire, i get near perfect scaling sometimes, and usually always over 50[-70% scaling, and frame stutter(microstutter)is gone, so i actually feel that crossfire is sometimes smoother than single card, and there is some research showing this on the web. i payed 1300$ at the peak of mining 8 months ago, and for 319, the vapor-x model nonetheless, its a steal of a lifetime.. 290s overlcocked compete equally withg stock 290x and beat titans in most gaming benchmarks.my recommendation here, is go for the 2nd card for sure while they r available, now is the time to snatch that baby up.. i would not recomend 4k as this resolution is still bringing the current high end cards to their knees and is a waste of pixels(right now)as having the smoothness of lots of frames is better than more pixels with less frames and lots of glitching(4k in 3 yrs maybe, but now it is irrelavent as the cost outweigh the gaming experience gains.. Real world 2560 1440 28' ips all day over 1080 tn panels and 4k(tn) ips is the best of colors and is still reasonably fast to keep up in fps. you wont go wrong at 2560 1440 as that was what AMD were aiming to optimize these top tier cards for. night and day better than 1920 1080, but still super crisp and clear, go 2560 1440, thats what i did, with a multimedia monitor to the side .. Eyefinity sucks, i did that for 6 months before getting sick of the lack of driver support and hit on gpus along with the black lines going through the screens, it got annoying as fuck till i bought the asus 27' 2560 1440 and overclocked the ips display to 76 hz(fps) now all my games play at 76 hz which is 3x the amount of frames i was used to after coming from console.. WHats your Ram and speed etc? power suplly 850gold is minumum recommended though for crossfire 290s..
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-8NMJaMkohUU/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAw/NzD_SwKRCMo/photo.jpg?sz=64
Oh, I wouldn't even want a 9590 at this point... If I had to choose, I still might get an i5... I had an 8350, and it was hell for almost any remotely CPU intensive game, even Crysis 3 with only 2xmsaa, I was cpu bottlenecked a few levels of the game with a single 290.Do you recommend CF 290's? whats are your cards and monitor? With the Sapphire Vapor-X at $319, its starting to look attractive, perfect mate for my Tri-X. I'm thinking of either eyefinity, 1440p or 4k, or maybe even 27"1080p, 28"4k, 27"1080p so I get the best of all 3 worlds. but $1000k for monitors, idk :/

if this game and others coming out is the new future of games, then your next update should be cpu/motherboard based, go for more pcie lanes like the newer processors when there are great deals you can find, and should be a great upgrade, sell your i5 and mobo for fair price, then the upgrade shouldnt be too much.. those 290s in crossfire are good for the next few years maxing out everything. only thing i would change also would be anti aliasing, 4x should be good enough, 8x is too much stress on cpu and graphics cards, for very minimal see able anti aliasing sharpness, 4x would perform closer to 60-100 frames on an i5, my i7 4770k at 4.2 gets average 62-80 on welcome to the jungle w 4x aa. ALso my 290s are both at 1050, 1350 also, and i play at 2560 1440, so i usually dont use aa as its clear enough. maybe 2x or 4x but usually its not needed. at 1080, i understand the want and need of 8x, but again, 4x is good enough. if you want to make a video showing the difference of 4x and 8x with the frames and picture quality i would encourage that brother. amazing video once again, very informative and the i5 cuts the game precisely powerful enough etc. just like i said future games might benefit from that cpu upgrade, also overclock the 1600 to 1866, 2133 if you can, much better low frames and smoother crossfire memory transfers with less microstuttter. Dont believe it, give it a shot, be careful, and youll see what im saying.. GREAT VID CHAMP

Thanks dude and yeah I will upgrade after I get my new monitor, this video was more to address a claim that my i5 3570k would drop to frames low as 5fps and freeze on the intense part of the level running from the missiles , I thought no point debating it may as well prove that's not true. I was asked to use these settings and would never use them personally it's just not practical to use that much AA. I will give the 1866 memory overclock a try though thanks for the advice.
