Bill Janovitz of Buffalo Tom performs an acoustic cover of the Sun Kil Moon song "Glenn Tipton". Lyrics: Cassius Clay was hated more than Sonny Liston Some ...
How odd...2 of my biggest musical inspirations, as divergent as they may
be, are Judas Priest and Buffalo Tom. So, I hope folks here understand that
Glenn Tipton is in fact a fantastic lead guitar player. He ought not end up
as mere indie rock lyrical fodder. Not to sound defensive or anything.
+Bort FrockYou Priest fanboys really come out of the woodwork when you think someone is deriding Tipton or Priest. Again, he wasn't being disparaged and in fact homage was given to him in this song because Mark Kozelek is a fan of him and of JP. Also note how I didn't deride the poster above you, so the hostility is a little ridiculous, and getting defensive about nothing. I probably know more about JP and Tipton than you know about Mark Kozelek, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Yet I'm not the one telling you to eat a dick for some imaginary slight against a guitar player you like. Also, you'll have to explain how you could possibly know what the fuck I do or don't understand about Tipton or JP from my post, because nothing I said had anything to do with my understanding of the guitarist or the band. I actually agree with the dude, Tipton is a great guitarist--if he wasn't, we wouldn't be talking about him here and you wouldn't be telling me to eat a dick in his defense (as if you needed to defend him since there's not exactly a flame war going at him). The lyrics to the song are, just so you know, "Some like KK Downing more than Glenn Tipton." How the fuck anyone could manufacture out of those lyrics "indie rock fodder" or disparity is beyond me.
8 months ago...still gotta say this. You should know that Mark Kozelek (the writer and original performer of this song which BT covers here) is no "mere indie rock." He has been and still is a great influence on many artists today and you have more than likely heard his music numerous times on TV and not realized it if you haven't bothered to listen to the original song. Glenn Tipton wasn't used as fodder for the lyrics of the song, as Kozelek writes his music and lyrics about his life and past troubles for the most part. It's obvious that Kozelek has had some influence on BT in some way, since they chose to cover one of Kozelek's songs from his band Sun Kil Moon. Yeah, you sound a little defensive since the song is not even disparaging of Glenn Tipton in the least, and again, Mark Kozelek with all his incarnations (Red House Painters, Sun Kil Moon) as a whole is much much more than "indie."As an aside, BT did a great job on this song.

It takes a lot of confidence and nerve to come out on stage and sing in
front of the judges and audience when you are just 9 years old. My hat goes
off to all of these kids who are willing to give it a try. Bianca seem to
be enjoying herself doing this song. The way she ended the song is now her
unique trademark.
