finally someone who knows how to properly drive hybrid, Good job! It's full of people around complaining for low mpg. Anyway, I'm also into buying one maybe! How is fuel economy figure on highway driving and @ what speed? Have you done some mods like grille block or things like that?

+ianlorenc Was that during one of our outings...to Stonehenge, perhaps? :)

+ianlorenc well that is brilliant considering the cold weather! I've read here and there that some had even installed LPG reducing further the costs (about 3€/100 km). I don't know how much is worth it, considering a break even at 100.000 km and the fact that we know so little about this fascinating power unit with gas fuel. I guess if I'd buy one I'd stick with that..at least until still on warranty. btw Great choice!

+sapon3disAle Sustained highway driving isn't so good. I very rarely do it, but the last time that I did - back in a cold January - I got about 60mpg, at 60-70mph.No mods, but if it's very cold this coming winter, I might try blocking the grille.

Fuel needle didn't move, love it. I do 11 miles to work and the needle moves, doing circa 28mpg in my GT86. 60mpg in my Toyota iQ I used to own was achievable but hard work. I'm considering a Yaris Hybrid next, as I love Toyota and had my GT86 'fix' now. And always wanted a Toyota Hybrid. Good vid.

+ianlorenc cool.. and how about open road consumption? I be read some crazy numbers getting up to 8.1L/100Km
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Chris T. It's okay. It's not a Golf GTI, but it's better than you might think.

+Chris T. not 'cut', 'cvt' I meant

+ianlorenc really thank once again for the quick response. I am 35 y.o. now, got my iq3 almost 6 years ago for the price of 15.600 euros. Now, Toyota is offering me 8.500 euros to get it back and have to pay 10.000 extra to get the hybrid style grade with the panorama roof as a bonus. I have driven the yaris hybrid already, I am not really a big fun of automatic cars or cut and I know that the yaris will never be an IQ in terms of parking and maneuvering into city but I guess it's time for me to grow up. Just one last question: how is the yaris on open road and on mountain driving? thanx in advance once again

+Chris T. Sorry, I thought that was clear enough. The single worst fuel consumption I've had is 5.3L/100km. The average fuel consumption I stated, is an average over the two years of owning the car.Perhaps this will help://www.fuelly.com/car/toyota/yaris/2013/ianlorenc/237438Sorry, but I know almost nothing at all about the IQ. Never owned one, never driven one. The only thing I know about the IQ is that the back seats and load space are a joke and you never know when you might need to carry passengers or a load. So the Yaris has one advantage in that respect; five proper seats and a respectable boot. When I was buying the car new, I suppose that I had the choice of either the Yaris or the IQ, and I went for the Yaris. I don't regret that decision, I'm a fan of the hybrid driving experience. You really need to take a test drive to see whether you like the hybrid driving experience. To me, it just makes sense. I think it's how cars should operate and it's where they're going to move toward.

Thanx for the quick reply. I live in a warm country but i would like to ask you: would you reccoment the yaris hybrid over the iq? What are the pros and cons? i am very sorry but I am kind of confused with the numbers you mention: you say the lowest you had was 5.3L/100Km and then you say your average was 4.5L/!00Km? It does not make sense.. You mean 5.3 was on the motorway with the yaris hybrid? Or do you speak about the IQ? thanx in advanceChris
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Chris T. The lowest I've had - which was in winter - was 5.3L/100Km. My average over two years is 4.5L/100km. Hybrids aren't as economical when the temperature falls below about 10C, so if you live somewhere not that warm, a hybrid might be disappointing. However, if you live somewhere that's mostly over about 14C, you keep the tyre pressures at least 36PSi/2.4BAR (I run 38PSi/2.6BAR), and you should be able to get good figures.

I am about to give away my iq3 to get the hybrid and I am having second thoughts. Any help anyone? I was doing 5.6L/100Km with my IQ.

+polopowered A fuel gauge that visibly moves over a short trip, now there's a terrifying thought.A hybrid is a good, comfortable, relaxed daily driver - not incredibly dynamic, but that's not the point. Have to learn how to drive them for economy, though - if they're driven like a normal car, the economy won't be anything spectacular. Also, see my other videos for 90 & 100mpg runs.
