20R/22R Hybrid 0-100mph 1981 Toyota Corona
Got the hybrid setup finished quite awhile ago. Used pre 85 22R bottom end and 20R head with mechanical fuel pump and power steering provisions. 20R head ...
The 20R / 22R hyrbid build should really be done with a late style 22R
block, not the pre 85 that I used. The later block has a lower deck height
and would have upped compression. Then you really should invest in an
adjustale cam sprockets so you can dial in the cam timing properly, as the
center distance between crank and cam will change. I guess the other option
would be mill the older 22r block to up compression, but I was on a budget
and didn't realize I should do that back then.
Nice. I'm just finishing up my project car: 1979 Corona, with the hybrid,
1mm oversize ss valves, mild port, adjustable cam sprocket, stage 1 TRD
cam, Thorley Header, Weber 32/36, 78-81 Celica lowering springs/swaybars
and modified Accord Bumper Covers. I've done a bit of custom work to this
car, will post some vids when I get it completed. The next project is 79
Supra diff with disc brakes.
Nah, turboing a 22R is not really cost effective - to do it right you end
up spending a load of money and end of the day you have what? 200hp maybe?
I should have just saved up for a sr20det swap. If I ever put the car back
on the road (it was in an accident, got T-boned) I'll either go sr20 NA or
turbo. This was a slow car, but still fun to drive.
Sorry no computer codes. The egr pipe was was broken right at the weld, I
couldn't tell until I used a holloween fog manchine blowing into the
exhaust.
