Classic 1964 Buick LeSabre - 300 V8 with Aluminum Heads - High Compression
I thought you might like a look at this vintage classic 64 Buick LeSabre. This is a very clean and low mileage original. It's powered by a 300 V8 with ...
YES !!!!! I remember that speed sensor. And also do you remember that
strange ignition switch GM had back then. It had a moulded metal shroud or
housing so if you put the key in, turned it to the right to the 1s position
then "removed the key" you never needed the key to start the car. you could
just grab the metal housing shroud and turned it to start the car. Then if
you wanted to return it back to normal you just put the key in turned all
the way to the left in the lock position.....weird
Me too. My brother and i were car nuts from birth. We frequently discuss
all the cars our late father had from 1948 to his last car in 1979. By far
the worst designed car he owned was a 1973 Buick regal. It spun out in snow
like crazy, The interior looked like a taxi cab , the trunk would be like a
swimming pool when it rained. Then again 1973 was not a great year for
Detroit. The best car he had was a new 1979 Plymouth Reliant K, fully
equipped, for under ten grand
When I was a kid growing up, "classic" cars were from the 1920's. Today, a
"classic" is what I grew up with. I was seven when my dad bought his '64
LeSabre. We were driving around the DC beltway and I asked my Dad what the
oil light was for on the dash. He explained and said, "Why?" "Oh, because
it's been on for about 20 minutes." All of a sudden, the engine seized and
we were dead on the side of the road. Those aluminum heads were a problem
that first year.
I do remember that. I also used to get in trouble playing with the heater
controls. They were above the radio and you could push them and the
individual levers would move 5-6" back and forth. I also remember the
gearshift lever was different -- it was kind of shaped like a bulb. I liked
that. You know, it's funny, I could name you each and every car my dad
owned from '59 through '78 when I left home. We'd spend Sundays going to
car lots and looking at cars.
My dad had one too. He had it for a month before the new aluminum head
cracked and all the oil drained out while we were driving the DC beltway in
'64. He fought with the dealership for a month before they gave him a great
deal on a '65 Wildcat that didn't have aluminum heads. The thing I most
remember was the speed sensor. The driver would move a dial on the
speedometer to the speed he wanted to drive and it would buzz if he went
faster.
SWEET DEAL JEFF! I'll Take it! I would love something like that with a few
options in it like A/C and Power windows. That would look so sweet with the
BUICK Rally Wheels. Simply a nice Survivor. Even the Interior is nice
looking. Looks like it needs a a good polish on the inside. If I was your
son Jordan I would stay in the trunk of you car. I love the places your car
goes. HAHA!
love big ol buicks. i was like "didn't he mention that porthole buick
thing, am i having deja vu/" then i looked and i was like oh yeah. not
complaining, like i said i love big ol buicks. based on the impala? there's
not enough cars named after swords, i wonder what a chevrolet bastard or a
pontiac claymore would look like.
I use to own one similar it was the 64 buick "wildcat" with high
compression 330v8 wideblock with a 4 dr and you talk about luxury before
its time, and the chrome the car had and the detail of the mouldings was
extremely nice and lots of power! very nice sabre brought back
memories,thanks.
i have the same car but 4 door hdtp, 300ci,250hp@ 4800,[email protected]
comp stock, super turbine 300 trans-2 speed. carter AVS 4 bbl carb & a
flamethrower tail pipe. baby blue with white top. did only the 4 doors come
with side lights for turning? B.C. CANADA.
nice original car... if a guy was looking to make a movie set in the
1960's, this place would be a good place to "borrow" some cars...whenever I
see an AMC car in a movie I'm thinking "this car is going to meet a fiery
death"...
My dad used to have one of these. I never, ever, remember seeing those come
from the factory with a two tone paint job. This engine, the 300 V8 was
actually pretty good on gas milage considering how heavy it was
what a sweet car, you videoed and narrated that very well with some funky
background music. Ive always been mainly a Pontiac guy but I dig nice chevs
olds and buicks like this. thanks for a great vid
@FatGuyWithAKatana This really is a slick car and that engine is pretty
potent for it's size. I wonder if anyone would drive a car called a Chevy
Rapier...actually that would probably be a van.
your so lucky you have a place to go and walk around to see all the cool
cars. yes ..that Convertible-Hardtop look is on the 60's Impala's
also...its a cool look I think. thanks for showing it.
They are tough cars. I wrecked mine into a telephone pole and a fire
hydrant. I split the pole into three pieces. Totalled the front end. Dont
drink and drive.
