Ah, the familiar grinding noise. The motors have nylon gears in them so after a while they start to grind. You will also want to check your headlight module, or bend the stop tab so the lights will stay up. The headlight will work for a while longer but eventually you will need a new motor (or a new metal gear if you want to take it apart). I'm sure you've already been answered a few times by now and frankly, I'm too lazy to look in the comments to find out. Enjoy the car.

Anyone have a link to a video to fix this I just got mine and don't know much about the gears or motors on the lights but it's doing the exact same thing, thanks in advance 

sounds like it might be you headlight module i had the same problem for a year or so ,dealer replaced head light motors two times ,didn't help extended warranty ran out ,later i was cleaning up under the air filter ,when i see this little black box that sits on top plastic tubing for air intake ,anyways it was pretty dirty so i started to clean it up when i see the bottom of the module was melted ,water got in it through the plug don't know how the plug was all green corroded from all the water getting in every time i washed the car . headlight module controls the headlight motors.

Thanks very much for posting this!! I have a 2000 Firebird, so there were some differences for my headlamp removal and replacement, but the simplicity gave me the confidence that I could do this. AND I DID!! I'm a 61-year old female (yes, with a Firebird convertible, no less) and was able to remove the necessary screws, burned out headlamp, and replace with the new one. I found a replacement headlamp at Advance Auto Parts. (Since they install my windshield wiper replacements, I want to reward them with my continued customer loyalty. The difference in prices with cheaper places was not material.) Removal and replacement took less than 15 minutes. Since my own automotive skills are limited to filling the gas tank and cleaning the car, I'm very proud of this trivial accomplishment! I must confess that I asked my husband to hold the socket with a long-handled pair of pliers as I'm deathly afraid of electrocution and I'm too much of a pansy to do it myself. Otherwise, I did it all myself! Yay me!

Thanks man...Where did you get these Sylvanian silverstar headlights? I would like to replace current headlights to these for my 1986 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am.

I just used a cordless drill, and I missed most of the bolt, so it took quite a bit of filing to get new nut/bolt to fit. My holes are a bit off from where they were originally but it seals up fine. I'm referring to the 2 bolts on the driverside motor.

Even worse: I'm not allowed to release it before Race Injection is 1 year old. In fact, I have to start over again because first: I didn't do the initial convertion myself and second: RTR is not released yet. So I have to take the Zolder version of Race Injection and start over again. :/ 'k Weet dat jij Nederlands praat, maar ik schreef het in 't engels voor in 't geval dat er nog mensen dezelfde vraag hebben. :p

Hi there I got a 98 firebird and when my head lights go up the both make loud noise. What can I do to reduce the noise or what's wrong with them? What do I have to replace?
