My Off Grid Camper In Winter Snow Storm
As of tonight I am fully off the grid again, in my camper in the forest. You can read a bit more here: //www.thediyworld.com/blog/?p=1147 I have been staying ...
Good boy. You're trying hard. I'd get a couple more batteries for back
up, LED lights to use less battery power and move to 100 pound propane
bottles.
+Dan Saver It was a rough time but I made it through and am stronger for it. Check out my newer videos and the tiny house on wheels which is on the trailer frame of this old camper.
why not add a check valve to that hot water line so as it boils it pumps
itself like a old style coffee pot? Then use a radiator with a thermal
powered fan to circulate the heat. No battery power would be required but
you could also make a basic steam powered generator indoors for recharging
your batteries.
+Tropicalwebsurfer might watch for a small pressure relief valve (Automatic like a hot water tank has on it) for that steam powered generator; would not be good to leave it running unsupervised. LUCK!!
I'm not totally sure - but if you cook in a crock pot I don't think they
use much power, and the bonus is they produce heat. You could plug it in at
night, and have hot food - potatoes maybe - for breakfast.
Apparently you know nothing about RV's it's far from shot dumbass. Homeless people live in card board boxes are they shot. You must not have a very hard life just cuss he has foil over the corner does not mean it's shot either. Your a fucking downer take a chill pill. Nothing like trying to kick him in his balls while he has some issues but at least he has a set unlike you.
Thanks for sharing your wood/coal stove setup. I would like to know how did
you get your exhaust flue out of the trailer? Did you go through your
ventilation outlet? If you did, what did you surround your exhaust pipe
with? Being that power will be a concern to keep your pump and fan
operating, perhaps you could hookup a hot water baseboard heater along the
floor of the camper? The hot water should be able to circulate on it's own
by natural thermosiphon, if you hook up the in/out pipes correctly to the
radiator.
Like so many people, you're going about sleeping-in-winter in a more
complex way. Save the fuel; save the worry over burning up while
sleeping....just get a 'professional' sleeping bag- one that goes to -20 or
more.
Use any kind of heat you like to get the thing to room temperature, then
take off the clothes, get in the bag. Turn off all heat sources and let it
go.
In the morning, reach out and turn on a heater, when it's room-temperature,
climb out and start the day.
You never have to worry that you might start a fire at night...and if
you're already wrapped up like a burrito, the heat isn't so much for you,
as it is the bedding you're using.
Keep in mind: people LIVE in these sleeping bags, at night, in ice and
snow...windchill is no problem. And it'll save SO much fuel. I did this
myself for most of 11 years...in Chicago.
No, it is just cold. I've been out in -35 and you just have to watch the condensation. Keep essentials in your sleeping bag like water, membrane water filters, phones...part of the Montana experience.
+Brian Fahrlander very interesting, i have one question how about breathing cold air, in night while asleep, is that ok? i mean for example if is it -10 you are nice warm in sleeping bag, but you are still breathing cold air.isnt that a problem?thanks
+Ryan Mccristall He doesn't have to. Proper sleeping bags work at such temps that you can lay them ON -10 blowing snow, get inside and be warm with NO EXTRA EFFORT.That's how I managed to live in my van in Chicago for 11 years.
+Brian Fahrlander i think he needs to keep the fire lit, plus waking up in the morning with a fire going and kettle boiling is a nice comfort i imagine.
+Mars Rover You don't USE the water system. And if it's that cold it'll burst refigerator lines, you're probably HEATING your food to keep it from freezing.Yeah: I lived in Chicago for 11 years. It wasn't a problem.
