CARTA: Bipedalism and Human Origins-Comparative Anatomy from Australopithecus to Gorillas
Why are we the only two-legged creature to develop an exclusively upright gait? And what did it mean to the development of the human species? CARTA brings ...
Thank you, great presentation, re-enforces my view that ecological change
comes first, and bipedalism is linked to decreasing forests 3 million ago.
Are savannah baboons more quadruped? Mmm interesting point though likely
to be less relevant than what we see in gorillas as presented here?
Than you really need to do more homework. Orrorin and Tchadensis both are much older, 6 and 7 million years old respectively, both bipeds early in the archeological history, before savanna's were part of the landscape. Standing upright this long ago pretty much kills the savanna theory. And since Orrorin has an upper femur bone more like us than Australeopithecenes, it suggests that it may be a better fit for early ancestor of sapiens. This further supports the more natural family tree having many branches for every species, even us.
