1969 Ford Torino Talladega GPT Special from Rad Rods by Troy - SEMA 2014 - Eastwood
Check out this amazing Ford Torino that was in the Mother's Booth at SEMA 2014 in Las Vegas. It was built by Troy Trepanier and his guys at Rad Rods by Troy ...
In '70 my rich as hell buddy's parents bought him a 69 Boss 429 from a
returning Nam vet. White car / black guts. The guy ordered it and hated it
because of not enough room for 4 people. Plus, insurance killing him. We
were 15. They had an abandoned air strip behind their home. Guess what we
did all day? I remember the clutch was really hard for me to push. He sold
it, saying "you need a g-damn mechanic to ride along with you all the time"
Ford warranty finally installed hydraulic lifters.
theres a guy about 3 ,miles from my house that has a 68 talladega in his
garage, its an actual yarlborough car, its i believe red and white, i only
seen it sitting in his garage a few times when i drive by his house , the
guy is in his 70's, i never seen it at the cars shows we have here during
the summer, look up on your registry for on in bristol ct, on louisina ave,
bristol, ct. i'm sure its on your list.
I want a second 1969 Ford Torino Talladega Boss 429 to turn into a monster
street/strip car, but I can't find one. If ANYONE, ANYWHERE has one in ANY
CONDITION, please comment on this and I will exchange information via
email. I am going to put a Jon Kaase Boss Nine and a specialty tranny in
it, so don't worry about drivetrain - MUST BE 429 VIN CODE!!! SERIOUS
BUYER!!!
true, they raced the 427 side oiler till midway into the season, then most
teams switched to the boss 429.. the production car came with the boss 428.
this car was so good on the racetrack, benny parson won a championship with
it, and ford won the manufacturers championship with it.. then nascar
killed it.. amazing story..
I find Talladegas for sale once in a while. I run the online
TalladegaSpoilerRegistry Contact me at [email protected]. I do know
where one might be right now. However, please realize that no real
Talladega ever came with a Boss 429 engine. All Talladegas had 428. You
will never find a Talladega with a 429 VIN.
In 1969 was the Boss 429 engine was offered to the public in the Mustang
but was raced in the Torino Talladega for NASCAR. The Talladega was offered
to the public with a 428 engine. The Ford part numbers for the Boss 429
engine were fullsize Ford (LTD) part numbers not Mustang or Torino.
Strange...
Hey whb1965 , they never made a 428 boss you must have wrote that wrong, im
a ford guy have been for years ford made a 429 boss but never a 428 boss ,
the 428 was a cobra jet or a police intercepter, anyway the car was still
bad ass .
34D2234, there was no 68 Talladega. The track and the car both debuted in
69. Cale never drove one. The Wood Brothers whom he drove for fielded a
Mercury Cyclone Spoiler 2, not a Talladega.

This Boss 429 Powered 1969 Ford Talladega owned by Rick Stanton hit over 250 MPH on the Chassis Dyno 3/18/10. It did so at 7432 RPM while making 697.3 ...
+Sam Coon I bet my 1995 Dodge Dakota Sport pickup would do 150 mph - if you threw it out of a airplane at 40 thousand, lol. Probably go like 200 mph - chained to the back of one of those Bullet Trains !
+david thayer I agree with everything you say. The Talladega was my dream car, and eventually made that dream come true. But long story short, really, speeds above 70 MPH the steering would actually get really heavy, and speeds approaching 90, the car would ride like it's on rails. I had the Talladega's big Ram Inducted 428 Cobra Jet up to around 100 and it was the most joyous experience of my life..
+pat mcgeough No dude. You gotta do your research about why the front ends of the Talladegas are shaped that way. It's all about aerodynamics. it's nothing new. But I'm not going to reveal anything about the Talladega. I;m not an expert by any means, but my knowledge is pretty good.
+pat mcgeough It's an easily researched subject; the '69 Ford Torino Talladega never got airborne despite the fact it reached an AVERAGE qualifying lap speed of 188 MPH on a regular basis at the superspeedways. Please, show one account of a '69 Talladega getting airborne.
+pat mcgeough I don't know if it would be "legal" or "illegal" in any sense of the word - but aircraft and Porshe and other machines sometimes use several little pairs of stubby wings that stick straight out from the part of the fuselage/car body that is making the unwanted lift and or suction (tapering-in portion of airliner fuselages) to kill off unwanted lift or drag (suction). They call the things "vortex generators". They do the same thing spoilers do - they kill the smooth flow of air causing the lift. Porshe reasoned that it wasn't right to use a wing to oppose the lift created by the afterbody of a car - better to just kill off the body lift in the first place.
+pat mcgeough ? Daytona Talledega and Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II lap times were right in the 188-190 range and they were not lifting off of the ground. These cars were actually quite effective ground effects cars, you didn't see any of them getting airborn. so to run a 188 lap at Daytona you will be running at 200 or better on the straights. This test is meaningless though.
And that's the point where the cars caught air and flipped over, they put wings on the rear Dodge Daytona, and others but it still wasn't enough that's why they put restrictor plates on the Nascar cars at super speedways to slow them down. end of story.
+pat mcgeough This is a 1969 Talladega with the same aero package the NASCAR guys used in 1969 and 1970. Those cars could exceed 190 and some were close to 200 on the superspeedways.
As much as I have just fallen in love with this car, dyno testing for MPH
is pointless.
Corvettes and Vipers from the 90s had gear ratios to achieve 300mph.
Doesn't mean they'd get there.
+pat mcgeoughThat's what I said. The gear ratios were there, but never the power. As for those dragsters, the power is needed for those speed in the short 1/4 mile.
+NegativeNumbers427 corvettes and vipers cannot go 300 mph sorry kid,and there has NEVER been one that went that fast, and they barely get over 200 now with allot more power than the 1990s had to offer.Top fuel dragsters and funny cars go over 300 mph, but that's with 8000 horsepower!
+NegativeNumbers427 Ok, I jumped the gun there. Dyno testing for mph isn't completely pointless, as it gives the engineers a chance to see if their maths is correct getting the wanted speed to the right engine rpm etc.But still.
