My dad had one of those when I was a boy & he did nothing but complain
about those little electric motors. The car was at the dealer it seemed
more than it was home & finally my dad got tired of it & trade it in for a
new 1960 Mercury Monterey with the sliding rear window. Now that was sweet!
If you pay attention to this commercial where they keep mentioning the
little electric motors, they keep saying they are permanently sealed &
lubricated for "their" lifetime which is the technical play on words the
dealers used back then when people complained about having issues with the
top & those motors. The commercial doesn't say those little motors will
last YOUR lifetime, they will last "THEIR" lifetime which could be three
weeks, three months or three years, depending on how much you retract the
top & very few lasted three years! ;-)
todays hidaway tops have alternators , smaller motor and gear drives.
lighter weight
too , (skyliner roof weights 500 lbs.) i'll say it could take a good head
on hit .
Lets assume the newer hideaway roofs wont be working some 55 years later .
like these do. these have room for four kids in back, lets see caddy or
AMG do that.
I remember wanting one of these when I was a teenager! I got a chuckle out
of the announcer saying how retractable hardtops would be industry standard
within ten years... there wouldn't be another on our shores until the mid
1990s.
1964 Fairlane KR 500
A 1964 Ford Fairlane "KR 500'" Street Rod I shot at the Street Rod Nationals 2013....This is one cool car...check it out!!...Make sure you follow me so that you ...
Scottie, That is an awesome car, and KR may be a reference to the 2008
Shelby GT500 KR which stands for King of the Road. Not completely sure just
a thought.
I believe this 64 Fairlane is powered by a Shelby GT500 5.4L SC engine,
thus the KR 500 name. The Trans could be a modified C4 or C6 Auto Trans
with a Lokar Auto shifter with a Ball Handle or it could be a 6-sp stick
shift trans like a Tremec t56...Hope that helps...God Bless!
OMG the chrome on that thing is freakin unbelievable!I am buying my very
first 1964 Ford Fairlane 500 Sports coupe tomorrow if all goes well! I
don't think I will sleep a wink tonight. lol
+ScottieDTV Well I ran into a minor set back with the damn money this weekend so everything is up in the air now.. Dude I HATE this feeling and only my desire for a freakin car can make me feel this miserable. lol
+William Pasco Cool..thanks for checking this one out here!
1964 Ford Fairlane Ring Brothers "Afterburner" SEMA 2013
The 1964 Ford Fairlane "Afterburner" from SEMA 2013..The car has been around a couple of years...but this was the first time I had seen it,,,,Way cool....Check it ...
I've always loved the Ring Brothers and how they incorporate many different
unique styling cues to create a look that is uniquely their own
unmistakeable style of build!
They heavily use a lot of CNC machined billet parts, carbon fiber, etc. to
create a look that combines the industrial look of machined billet aluminum
parts, with modern aerospace and racing technology such as carbon fiber,
with good old classic hot rod coolness!
You can go to a car show of hundreds of cars and without a doubt pick their
cars out of the whole group! I hope that if I ever get my business going
that I can build cars and bikes that are 1/2 as cool as the stuff they
build! lol
Thanks for sharing this video, ScottieDTV!!! =D
man..thats a pretty sick Ford Fairlane...and I'm w/ya on the "up there
tight" on the bumpers and the door handles looked shaved...nope..just in
there "tight"..and the frikn exhaust looks like 2 big cannons pointed at
cha.....sweet build..))
