Hwy scotty, u have really been a great help in the past..how did u end up in texas

by getting married and driving due south. It may be hot here, but the winters are easy.

Scotty, I am looking for a pick-up for my son for his first vehicle. $2500 limit. While looking on Craigslist, I am noticing many of the trucks have recently had new or rebuilt transmissions. Is there anything to watch out for with a new or rebuilt transmission? I just can't help but to wonder why someone would spend that kind of money and then get rid of the vehicle. Thanks.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
Thanks!

never believe the B.S. people give when selling vehicles, they tend to lie like dogs. Get a toyota pick up, they last the longest and rarely do their trannies go out

Hi scotty i have a corolla 2E engine i experience sudden stops while driving can you help me solve the problem
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Zf06nVz8ZjM/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAB7k/wj-y_pm5HcU/photo.jpg?sz=64
first, check for recalls, some of those had bad computers toyota has to replace for free. If not that, do my video "fixing a car that cranks but doesn't start up" to find the cause
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
Hey Scotty, I have a 93 3000gt that has begun to "hiccup" jerks or temporarily loose power when I accelerate. As it hiccups the check engine light will flash on but then turns off when I let go of the gas( the car will also return to normal when I let go of the gas) . however It makes me have to accelerate very slowly in order to get anywhere. I have checked changed my transmission fluid and engine oil ( both with new filters), tested my shift solenoids, tested my neutral safety switch, I have cleaned the inside of my throttle body, purchased a new air filter, tested my battery, changed spark plugs and wires, checked all fuses, besides all that the only other things that I can think of is that I hear a high pitch whistle coming from my gas tank ( family says that's how I know my fuel pump is working? is that true?) along with that whistle when ever I use my turn signal my battery voltage meter goes up and down with the turn signal and so does the whistle. the whistle goes from high pitch to higher pitch ( back and fourth) with the turn signal on. Do you believe that thies problems could be related in some way? or are they both completely different issues? where do I start?
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Zf06nVz8ZjM/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAB7k/wj-y_pm5HcU/photo.jpg?sz=64
you'll have to get that code when it's flashing, only a guy with a dealer level old MITS computer can do that, so find one.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
Hey Scotty, I have a 1999 Mercedes C230. I drove it home from work the other day, and it ran and drove perfectly. I went to go get dinner that night,I turn the key and nothing happened, no clicks, or warning lights. I have checked the starter relay, battery, and all of the fuses (all of which are in working order). I also noticed that I can now shift the car out of park without the key being in the ignition. Please help
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
I also checked the connections going to the shifter, all of which seem to be ok. Im stumped. Please help Scotty!
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
Scotty, My 2002 Nissan frontier 2.4l idles sporadically when coming do a stop with the clutch in. i replaced the Idle Air Control valve last year and it seemed to solve the problem for a few months, but now the issues back! , if i leave the IACV Unplugged the issue goes away but then on start up it idles really funny for a few seconds, but then its good. What should i do?
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Zf06nVz8ZjM/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAB7k/wj-y_pm5HcU/photo.jpg?sz=64
check for vacuum leaks, and if you find none, replace the iac valve with an oem factory one, not an aftermarket one

Hey scotty, My belt come out of my 2003 chevy impala. the belt isn't cut, why did it come out and can I just put it back or do I need to take it to the shop. before this happen, it started to not turn on sometimes, like once or twice a week, I have to wait for a few minutes or put the car on neutral and push a little bit than it will start.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-ZrKfgp1nVKY/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAABo/5dN_pFDcEv8/photo.jpg?sz=64
the belt was cut three years ago and I replaced it
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Zf06nVz8ZjM/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAB7k/wj-y_pm5HcU/photo.jpg?sz=64
first put on a new belt, they often wear and need replacing as they are too large and fall off. If the new one falls off, then pulleys are misaligned or you need a new tensioner. Start there, pray it caused all the problems

I watch several auto repair shows on you tube and I would say there are two shows that are top dog so to speak. I see here in the comments so many people trying to get you or the other guy Eric to say something about the other and that kind a T's me off . These videos are seen World Wide and there is no telling how many millions are watching you two. As a fork lift mechanic for over 30 years I have seen many fine mechanics that do things a little different than others and get the same results and it would be wrong to say one guys way was better than the others. That being said ,you guys are tops in my book and I think theres enough room in this world for two fine mechanics. Maybe the two of you could get together for the hell of it and arm wrestle or shoot a game of pool to see who's better. LOL
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-ZmJUoAuvLGE/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAABwE/l6vPCL3f4pQ/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Scotty Kilmer I understand completely and I agree with you on them toyotas, they make a tough fork lift to. I used to handle a fleet at trade shows in chicago McCormic Place Navy Pier and Rosemont Convention center , most of our fleet was junk but I'v seen them toyota's take a hit to the oil pan , loose all there oil, overheat and shut down, (The operators were trying to blow them up so we would replace them) We would brase the hole closed ,add 4 Qt's of oil some antifreeze and send them back into battle. That 2.0L  ,  5 R  and 4 Y engine was bullet proof
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Zf06nVz8ZjM/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAB7k/wj-y_pm5HcU/photo.jpg?sz=64
yea, the world's full of nuts, heck, I don't even watch car repair videos, I just make em. I have no idea what other guys are doing, I'm here to help people fix their cars, or NOT to buy the wrong car in the first place.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
Hey Scotty I got issues I have a 99 Cadillac deville that was recently in bad need of a radiator I replace the radiator now all of a sudden my heat doesn't work that's the only thing I replaced and not only was it blowing hot before the replacement but now it just blows constantly cold air and its cold outside what could have possibly happened and how do I fix it
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
For someone who doesn't have the luxury of this vacuum system u speak of; is there a way for me to do it
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Zf06nVz8ZjM/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAB7k/wj-y_pm5HcU/photo.jpg?sz=64
probably just have air in the cooling system, have it bleed out, mechanics like myself use a vacuum system to suck the air out, takes five minutes

i always though diesel cars need less maintenance?
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
i guess it's time to get one of those tank 1980's 300D mercedes beasts then! i heard they are very very tough cars!
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Zf06nVz8ZjM/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAB7k/wj-y_pm5HcU/photo.jpg?sz=64
+bunkerbuster diesel engines are now all electronically controlled, unlike the mechanically injected diesels of the past. So they actually cost more to repair than gasoline engines. And very few mechanics are good with diesels, so the cost skyrockets for most repairs.
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-1S0LbefC84E/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAB8/BXlGrqrspdw/photo.jpg?sz=64
Scotty I have a 2000 Izusu Trooper that I need to know where to add the transmission fluid. We are doing a service on it and need to know where to add the fluid.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Zf06nVz8ZjM/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAB7k/wj-y_pm5HcU/photo.jpg?sz=64
they don't have dipsticks, so you have to pay a mechanic with special tools and knowledge to do that, unfortunately
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
Scotty! I have a 2006 Chevy hhr lt. It has the 2.4 liter motor. With 170,000 miles. My father bought the car new and passed it to me at 140k Two things, it has a po303 code which is a misfire in the third cylinder, when it idles for about 5 minutes, the engine light comes on, and then the traction control light comes on, then when I shift it into drive it shifts really hard almost like it's dumping. What could be causing that? The second thing is when it's idling like that it seems to be burning gas really rich and has a somewhat heavy white steam coming out of it, problek? What is your opinion on these cars?
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Zf06nVz8ZjM/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAB7k/wj-y_pm5HcU/photo.jpg?sz=64
fix the misfiring problem first, and if steam comes out, often a blowing head gasket on that engine, they were known for that. NOT the greatest of engines to be sure.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
peugeot 207 petrol. 2007 ecu says pollution control is not working. engine management light is on. do i need a new or refurbished ecu or is this just a code thing
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Zf06nVz8ZjM/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAB7k/wj-y_pm5HcU/photo.jpg?sz=64
depends what the code is, there are thousands of different ones. BUT, if it runs fine, many just ignore that stuff.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
HEY scotty I have a 1999 honda accord v6 and the check engine light came on and the code is p0401
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Zf06nVz8ZjM/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAB7k/wj-y_pm5HcU/photo.jpg?sz=64
that's EGR insufficient flow, on that, normally the intake manifold needs taking off and cleaned out from the inside out asx they carbon up inside, done tons of them
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64

design flaw on that engine, often the ground between the engine and transmission goes out, causing that, I've fixed many, but it's expensive requiring removing the transmission. If it starts up fine once it does, most guys live with it

Hello scotty. I have a '94 Lexus GS 300. The car has 93,000 miles. It starts right up but once its running, it blows thick white smoke from both tailpipes. Also once it gets up to 40 mph, I have to let off the gas and step on it again to get more speed. Please help me out. P.S. the head gasket was replaced already.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Zf06nVz8ZjM/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAB7k/wj-y_pm5HcU/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Tommy Hewitt  sounds like a crappy head gasket job, do my video "how to tell if your head gasket is blown" and if so, take it back under warranty.

Scotty I purchased a 2004 Ford Taurus I took it to Auto Zone to see why the engine light is on. P0420 is the code that it gave. Catalyst efficiency low-bank 1. Explanation: the oxygen sensors monitor the Catalytic Converters ability to store oxygen. It also lists four probable causes. Do I need to replace catalyc converter? Also what does P0456 mean?
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-_Ir217a-v5U/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAABo/FJ0YNm3IeKI/photo.jpg?sz=64
Ok thanks. What does the other code mean?
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Zf06nVz8ZjM/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAB7k/wj-y_pm5HcU/photo.jpg?sz=64
those are complex feedback systems, and actually dozens of things can trip that code, but on a taurus, often a bad cat. BUT, do try my video "fixing bad catalytic converters" and try that cleaning.
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
Hey Scotty, I have a 95 Infiniti G20 and whenever i step on the gas the car feels like its lacking power and sometimes it feels as if the car is moving back and forth as i hit the gas. the check engine light is on but Autozone does not have the code reader for my car and a local shop wanted 100$ to check it for me. I would really rather not waste that money if it is an easy fix, any suggestions would help thanks!
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
+Scotty Kilmer  I followed the instructions on another one of your videos about cleaning the maf sensor and this did the trick, my car is back to the way it was in fact it feels much better! thanks for your help!
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Zf06nVz8ZjM/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAB7k/wj-y_pm5HcU/photo.jpg?sz=64
often a bad maf sensor, but they are not cheap. You really need a scan tool to analyze that stuff, and being that old, only a pro mechanic will have one that fits a non obd2 95 infiniti. I would also pressure test the fuel pump, weak ones do that too
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
What do you think about 4.0L jeep engines? I always hear about how reliable they are. Mine has 150K and the only problem i have is a lifter noise

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Zf06nVz8ZjM/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAB7k/wj-y_pm5HcU/photo.jpg?sz=64
VERY strong engines, but regrettably they are in a vehicle with VERY weak electronics as they age.

ok i have a problem.. i bought a 2000 suburban and it drove fine for a about 3 weeks then all of a sudden it just would not start and stay running.. it would start and then die after 1 second.. i then noticed my keys are solid metal keys without the plastic head.. so now i am really confused on what i should do next? buy a ignition cylinder? or is there another way i can get thru this without spending 500 i do not have.. Also had another problem when i bought the truck.. they said it need intake manifold so i replaced those and rough idle improve but did not fix 100%. also the rpm reading was in accurate... was reading ZERO at idle and would raise if given gas.. never stalled though.. sorry for asking at incorrect time but i do not have internet .. i am using librarys net
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Zf06nVz8ZjM/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAB7k/wj-y_pm5HcU/photo.jpg?sz=64
I assume it ran with those keys before, but if not, you need to go to a locksmith and have a coded key with chip made to work on that car, or go to the dealer. And it's idling waay too low, try my video 'how to fix a car that idles poorly"
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-XdUIqdMkCWA/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAAAA/4252rscbv5M/photo.jpg?sz=64
My friend has a 2007 Nissan Versa CVT with 172,000 miles on it. The check tire pressure light is flashing. What causes that?
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Zf06nVz8ZjM/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAB7k/wj-y_pm5HcU/photo.jpg?sz=64
odds are one of the tires is low on air, if not, one of the sensors on one of the tires has gone bad

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-Zf06nVz8ZjM/AAAAAAAAAAI/AAAAAAAAB7k/wj-y_pm5HcU/photo.jpg?sz=64
just depends on the shape the car is in, being that old. But all corollas are good, and civics are too, though they have weak automatic transmissions that toyotas don't have

Hey Scotty, First off thanks for your time to make these informational videos. You've saved me some good money. Second, my nissan sentra 2004 seems like it is a little bouncy when I am driving. It's also bouncy when I am braking which I think my rotors maybe going bad. However, what could it be if I am just driving and it's bouncy? Thanks -Logan
