You need to consider the source of 4, 5 and 6 Esdras and the historical setting that they were written in. They are pseudepigrapha. They were not written by Ezra. Why is it any more difficult to believe Peter lived on bread and olives and on occasion pot herbs than it is to believe John the Baptist lived on locust and honey? People in third world countries survive on similar diets.

How could a man live off of olives with one tunic in a bitterly cold country like Scotland ? How would he support his family who would raise his children for him what would be his inheritance the Whirlwind ? I believe global warming is due Satan taking advantage of mankind's greed, lusts, and hedonistic life style. I don't believe we can take out all the oil and water from beneath the surface of the earth without there being serous consequences. The same is also true of destroying most of the earth's forests, pumping noxious fumes into the atmosphere and garbage into our oceans.Peter tells us in Clementines Homilies that he rejected wealth. He lived on bread and olives, and the odd time cooking herbs. He said we think think of ourselves as foreigners in this world and that nothing in it is ours. He said we should only have the necessities of life, like one coat, one pair of sandals, and the such. The world would be a very different place if 2.2 billion Christians lived this way.I believe the hedonistic lifestyle of not only the world, but also the church that is responsible. Now this is not to say that God will not directly play a part as well. For having watched mankind abuse the earth, He may hasten things with off planet catastrophic events like large meteors or sun pulses. This would be more in line with God's promise that he would not destroy the world as he did with the great flood. Allowing mankind to do it though is a different story.
