Outrageous, one Rabbi gets assaulted 'up North' and the discussion on
anti-semitism takes almost as much time as the brutal attack on thousands
of innocent civilians in Gaza?
+SaintJohn's That's the internet for you, time speeds up, and age old battles last for a couple of days. Maybe a solution lies there. All the best St John.
+SaintJohn's1) Truths which rely on historical interpretation are subjective.2) On the one hand you ridicule the use of numbers to determine power imbalances in civilian casualties, but you then mention 300000 Arabs in an effort to highlight the small number of people that were living on the territory, which is now in part Israeli.3) You concede that the origin of the conflict is the creation of Israel on occupied land.4) Refer to (2) 5) As mentioned in the previous post, Hamas is an 'unfortunate' consequence of (3)6) This is the only apparent solution.7) You misconstrue my argument, as you conceded the creation of Israel is the principle origin of the conflict, although this origin can obviously go back further and as with any origin there are other factors that can be considered. This is an inescapable fact, although Israel now exists and will hopefully prosper in the future as a peaceful nation. It is fairly clear that the possibility of peace rests either on a two state solution with the 67 borders or a one state solution with Israel accepting Palestinians as Israeli citizens.
+SaintJohn's Your argument aims at creating an origin for the conflict, which you historically locate as Hamas. This 'truth' is subjective and contentious to say the least. I will address your points in consecutive order (1) Palestinians had nothing to do with WW2, but they suffered severe consequences by losing land that they had lived on for generations. With justification they would claim that this was the origin of the conflict (2) Hamas is an unfortunate consequence of this origin (3) Due to the occupation of Palestinian territory by Israeli settlers Hamas continues to gains support. Following the calls from leaders, such as President Obama Israel should at least return to the pre-1967 borders, and then a Palestinian State can then be formed. Another point, I would not conflate this conflict with Jews, as there are many Israeli's and Jews throughout the world who are vehemently against this situation and the Israeli stance on Palestine in general.
+SaintJohn's Em I think the thousands of Palestinian civilians who are being bombed and killed on a daily basis would think they are under attack. I doubt they would relate to your understanding, which aims at some kind of abstracting rhetoric and flawed utilitarian logic, which due to the gross imbalance in fatalities is clearly nonsensical.
