The fact that theists often act as if there is no point to living without a
God to give meaning to our lives is not very surprising. Self-loathing is
baked into Christianity at its core, only to be replaced with love and
wonder through God. According to Genesis, we're all sinners doomed by
Original Sin. Disregarding the idiocy of blaming everyone for something
supposedly done by our mythical ancestors, this is a setup. People are
commanded to admit to being doomed sinners, and to kneel before God through
Jesus. When people are conditioned to think of themselves as inherently
flawed, and only worthy once they're "saved", it's only logical that
they'll freak out when faced with a reality that doesn't include God.
To ELCYBRESTEIN- Wow. Guess what ? there are untold millions of people
around the globe who don't think like you and don't believe in god or gods
, and live healthy happy productive lives. You want to live in your little
mythological fantasy world, that's fine. You come off as such an arrogant
ass hole in your comment. Im sure you look at many other religions or
beliefs and think they are nutty and baseless, well , so do millions of
other people, and they just add yours to the list. Do you understand now?
Food gathering, food storing, grooming, exercising, playing, cleaning,
social issues, language, memory, insight, foresight, problem solving, tool
making and using, rules and morals groups apply and almost entirely listen
to, with repercussions for disobedience, teaching and learning, and family
recognition, self identity, emotions, five senses are all animal instincts
we can point at animals we see today and say that they do a good quantity
of these functions and we see us humans apply them also
The 21 grams is pure bullshit. It's been debunked. Also, there is no need
for proof that souls don't exist. It's the exact opposite. There needs to
be proof that they DO exist. It's called the burden of proof. There's a
reason why the burden of proof exists. If you accept that souls exist
without evidence, then why do you dismiss unicorns? Same amount of evidence
for each, none. Anything that is asserted without evidence or reason can be
dismissed without evidence or reason. Just think about it.
Haha I know! I actually debated with some christian about that. The answer
I got that animals don't have soul (even though human is an animal, but you
know what I mean), and that some point, humans got a soul from God. That
means that the person's parents don't have a soul and therefor the parents
cant live in a happyland. It's just very VERY ridiculous! Everytime science
proofs something which disproves the version of the bible (or any
fairytale) religious people just add a new thing to believe
If it was something I genuinely could not explain, I would probably say I
don't know what it is. That's the honest thing to do. I wouldn't jump to
any conclusions based on some crazy thing I saw in the sky. Do you believe
all of the videos of "flying saucers" that are out there? How about the
stuff Billy Meier shot? If you just call it aliens without doing any
investigating, you're not supplying a real answer. Just your guess based on
almost no information. If you have links, I'll look at them.
And being an atheist is the most depressing fucking life I'm not kidding I
would hate to not look forward to an afterlife. Atheist don't deserve good
when they try to prove against God or argue a point you cannot proof the
non existence of God it's irrelevant. If I were atheist I would moan and be
depressed errrrr day and that's terrible and to all the idiots that don't
believe in God what will you do when you die and your face to face with the
creator and the look of shame crawls all over your
Some punk ass atheist asks me for proof I'd laugh in there face. This world
didn't just poof out of anywhere it was designed say how do humans have
eyesight how do humans project sound out of nothing how are humans internal
organs all perfectly made to fit inside the human body aye? Every organ has
a specific task and they were all designed to work together. If there were
no God this world would be outta whack it would be un organized we would be
un organized. The human brain is amazing that co
Actually,if fine tuning didn't exist, then even the limited plan of
existence which we inhabit wouldn't be at all possible. What a huge leap of
faith you undertake to think that millions of random events and material
particle self-formed to produce sentient life is a massive leap of faith in
indeterminable historic events. It is amazing that some of the greatest men
in history understood the supernatural nature of human mind and spirit, yet
with no reasonable proof you insist humans are animals
While the odds are likely that there is intelligent life elsewhere in the
cosmos, there is no reason yet for me to positively accept that claim. I
know what you're trying to get at, but you are off base with a comparison
between ETs and souls. Let me explain why. We have evidence of life here on
earth. So to posit an idea that elsewhere life could exist isn't exactly a
far stretch even though currently unsubstantiated. What evidence is there
of a soul? None. It's a apples and oranges situation.
@ELCYBRESTEIN This world didn't poof out of nowhere, it formed as part of
the sun's accretion disk which coalesced into the planets of the inner
solar system. We have eyesight because the species we are descended from
had eyesight. In the broader view the first eyes were merely
light-sensitive cells which grew larger and more complex over millions of
years and millions of species. We don't project sound out of nothing, we
use air that we have in our lungs for other purposes. Vocalization is...
@ELCYBRESTEIN ...a useful adaptation that we first acquired as early
synapsids in the Cenozoic era. It allows one to threaten predators and
prey, warn one's young of danger and, in some species, communicate more
effectively. Organs aren't a human invention, fish have them. Long before
our ancestors were human they had organs. People thought like you for
thousands of years, but now we have a model that doesn't require magic to
work, is testable and predictable, and has lucrative applications.
@musicdirectorjim Drugs have the same kind of effect. I'm not saying you're
on drugs. I'm saying that your mind can play all sorts of tricks on you. I
once thought that I heard my mom calling me, but when I called to ask her
if she did, she said no. I'm also not saying you have anything wrong with
you, besides the fact that you believe in a god that offers no evidence for
his existence. However, you are entitled to your own beliefs. I have tons
of friends who are religious and many are close.
@jappud I guess it is how we interpret the bible; a good atheist is more
likely to "go to heaven" than a religious person who doesn't do good I
suggest; isn't this the parable of the Good Samaritan ? That the Bible can
mean different things to different people depending on their situation can
be good and bad, but there must be an eternal truth perhaps. I don't
believe in disassembling ones self esteem if you have one of course but
perhaps getting to know and understand ourselves better
@icarus212001 For me, the hardest part of leaving behind all 'spiritual'
belief was finally accepting that when I die, I will no longer exist in any
form. I live in the Pacific NW and I am surrounded by non-religious people
who can't let go of the idea of a soul. They get really uncomfortable when
discussing being completely dead. People want to believe that they are so
special that the universe could not just let them go. But there is
absolutely no evidence or hint of a soul.
If humans accept "Strong Athiesm" (the positive assertion that there is no
God) then what? Between quantum fluctuations, the Big Bang & Evolution
we've pretty much solved how we came to be. The question "why are we here?"
can't be dismissed by "why should thier be a why?". The need to know
conclusively is unquenchable. It's all very well to refute mythologies but,
until that matter is resolved the arguement must evolve past this back and
forth between Theism & Atheism.
My heart is a muscle, it pumps blood to the rest of my body, soul? what is
a soul? where does it reside? Do I care? not in the least, the soul is a
construct based in religion so that even after death you have something to
fear in the eternal fires of "hell". I do not have a soul, I have
consciousness, what is it? Neurons firing in the brain? What is the purpose
of this consciousness? Who cares? There is one universal truth: everything
that lives, eventually dies.
@musicdirectorjim They don't seem to cover anything to me. If all these
things were really predicted by the Bible itself, then why don't science
and history text books cite it? There's got to be a reason right? I told
you I was a Christian, until I started asking questions and kept an open
mind to the other side. I definitely have an open mind. That's why I'm an
Atheist today :) The "Creator" will never forsake me because I don't
believe he exists.
@musicdirectorjim It's ridiculous because people are real and tangible. God
is not. Plain and simple. Why is that so hard for you to understand? There
are nights that you haven't been able to sleep because of a little thing
called Insomnia. It's been scientifically proven. YOU provide your own
strength. God just gives you a placebo effect. The belief that he gives you
your strength is comforting and reassuring. Doesn't mean that belief is
true.
@musicdirectorjim You don't "believe" in science. Science changes everyday,
finding truths and errors along the way. Religion has not changed in over
2000 years. "Spiritual" is not a meaningful word. How can you prove we have
a "spirit"? We need some kind of physical evidence for a god to either be
able to demonstrate how he works through tests that are consistent, or find
many other accounts of an actual god in other works aside from the bible.
@musicdirectorjim I didn't see George Washington or Alexander the Great,
but we do have evidence for them. Scientific evidence is strict, but fair
in how it judges if something stands as evidence. Yes, you're right that
science can't explain everything, and it probably never will. However, for
now, I would like to have as many true beliefs as possible and as few false
ones as possible. I'm very opened minded. That's why I'm an Atheist today :)
Well, no. When you want to kill youreself, goahead. But you shall not do
that. Sure, there are people in the Bibel who killed thereself and got to
heaven. But you shall not do that. You shall spread Gods word and convert
people into a child of God, so that these people also can get to happyland
:). Happyland is good! You shall also go there. But if you dont want to,
you have to go the other way... Go to happyland instead ;D
@TheRealCates nah man think about it.. Death will pass like going to
sleep.. Perhaps u'll be sick or something but at least if your sick u know
death is coming and they have meds to ease ur passing.. But I think
sometimes life would get so old if u lived forever... I kind of hope for
something more too.. At least a reunion with my friends far in the future..
Or at least a temporary moment to remember :)
I have been trying to solve this enigma of "soul" since years. Now the
nearest explanation to logic that I reached is that the soul might be
merely an energy (like electricity), it has no feeling and no intelligence.
The sould and the body form something of value only when they are united,
and when death occurs, this energy or soul goes back to its source. Some
might say: how about emotions?
@jappud I don't interpret it like that at all, in everyday life we are
normally pleased if someone loves us so much they would do anything for us
(and vice versa) so if you give your life for someone and not just in a
death type manner it is the ultimate sacrifice in many ways; you love your
partner so much it enhances your own self. This would be my take on the
practical human aspect.
@musicdirectorjim That's certainly true. I could be wrong. I don't know. I
just can't believe in something without sufficient evidence. It's totally
cool if you believe in an afterlife. I wish there was one, believe me. I
would love that. Especially if there's COOKIES!!!! lol Anyway, yes, that
would be awesome to meet family members I was too young to know, and those
that I miss.
UN Anti Blasphemy Resolution & State Board Of Education
//www.facebook.com/ScienceReason ... UN Anti-Blasphemy Resolution & Texas State Board of Education Update (The Atheist Experience #595 with Matt ...
There's proof of a creator there is no proof for evolution it is an idea a
religion that is based on satanic origins. Not only is evolution a complete
made up idea it makes the children that are indoctrinated by it have no
moral absolutes, no conciquences for there actions unless there caught by
the police or whatever and we know according to our society many horrible
things could be done even killing babies and they would think oh well we
are here by accident anyway. It is also dangerous for teens to get force
fed these lies getting depressed that there is no point to life killing
themselves or even other people for thinking there lives are over which
happens often with teens . Look at what life was like in the 50's and look
what is happening today with security, school shootings, camera's
everywhere, and violence by the police all the time. People have sex before
there married or never getting married at all this stuff started happening
during the 70's and got worse. Unless us believers stand up and demand true
honest science get put in schools it's gonna continue to go down hill, we
gotta start at home with our own kids teaching them right according to the
bible and in courage them to challenge the science in the text books
according to real honest science that will tell the truth nature itself
shows that there is a creator and the bible proves who the creator is. Kids
wanna know the truth, believing there is a creator is natural dividing
church and state wasn't what they did they took the bible that people
learned to read from in the beginning of america and replaced it with a
belief in atheism a religion. It is up to us to get the bible back in
school state by state or at the very least start out with creation view
taught along with the view in evolution and honestly see where the science
takes us if done honestly will prove evolution is a made up fairy tale and
I guarantee if kids had a choice they would choose the creationist class if
they heard some of the debates and guided right by there parents and did
there own research. No more government grants for lies I say. Please the
people that believe in evolution please do honest proven research and ask
god to reveal himself to you and you will be pleasantly surprised. May
Yahshua show his self to all of you I pray I don't hate you I hate the lies
Satan has fed you through whatever different means.
@FreePlay Does the sun always set in the east? That can be seen as true,
but is it a fact? No. The earths surface revolves away from it. And your
right it is not a moral view I suppose I was talking about a persons world
view that colors what we see as facts. World view isn't right either...a
persons collective view of reality. Arrrg there is a better word for it.
Does anyone know what I'm talking about? or should I go to that fitting of
that white coat with the long sleeves :P
@FreePlay If everybody did as I suggested, and their particular beliefs are
not illegal, then there would be no extremists which, in my opinion, is the
cause of many wrongs in the world today. I know this will not happen
though, because those religions need to be extreme or else they will die
out. If everyone were rational and thoughtful religions would be gone.
Religions are like an organism... they have self preservation at there
core. Just my thoughts I guess :P
I am a reformed Jehovah's Witness turned atheist. I am going through a
divorce because my wife is still a devote member. I am insisting on
teaching our 14 year old son atheist views because I consider myself a
loving dad that does not want him brainwashed like I was. I am willing to
loose my marriage over this and I don't care. An offensive move against
religious stupidity is our only course my fellow atheists. This is no
longer a game it is a war.
I think there may be some confusion here. There was already a nonbinding
resolution on this matter passed a while ago, but the UN is attempting to
pass a binding one that would require all member nations to pass a law
against, essentially, insulting religion or religious beliefs. Not that it
matters, anyways; if they do pass it, you can bet the fact that we already
made anti-blasphemy laws unconstitutional will override this nonsense.
Sheesh. a true or false judgement of an idea is a moral judgement.... I
guess I'm talking about is the underlying truth... a person is a person, a
thought is a thought, an Idea is an idea. everyone and everything is
valid... there is nothing unimportant. valid comes from value When atheists
denounce and reject religion... they are doing the same things as a
Christian fanatic might do. Just swap out "religion" with "non-believers"
If you're willing to equate morality and factuality, you're beyond help.
There are these things called FACTS. Ideas about reality can be judged
based on whether or not they are TRUE. If they are true, they are valid. If
not, they are invalid. As for doing the same things a Christian fanatic
might do, call me the next time someone bombs an abortion clinic in the
name of atheism. Fool.
"Does the sun always set in the east? That can be seen as true, but is it a
fact? No. The earths surface revolves away from it. " Actually YES, it IS a
fact, because we've *defined* the parameters that make that statement true.
We define "sunrise" and "east" in accordance with what we observe. Not all
worldviews are equally valid. Science and fact are not a matter of opinion.
i think what joxman is trying to say is that all ideas are equally valid in
their initial state, that is as an abstrat concept within the human mind.
it is only when we investigate or test these ideas that we can determind
which ones actually make sence in reality and which ones do not acurately
describe the world around us. or maybe im just looking into this too much...
@erichathy222 Basically, you call us all arrogant, while failing to see
that you look like a complete douche by being so completely certain how
correct you are. Also, "pride" is somehow bad now? wtf? I agree with your
opinion from stepping down from the "debate" (whatever debating you were
doing at least, heh), since you're making a huge joke out of yourself.
this resolution was taken up by around 50 islamic states in the UN,
spearheaded by Pakistan in its headquaters in islamabad! these are
theocracies, they dont understand or respect a democracy? islam and
judeo-christian demigods are trying to destroy the earth by targeting our
rational peaceful nature. WERE FUCKED IF WE WONT DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS
NOW!
Atheism is not a set of beliefs. And there are more religions than Judaism
and Christianity. I don't believe in ANY gods of ANY religion. I don't
believe in anything supernatural. Notice I still haven't said a word about
what I DO believe, because that's entirely irrelevant to my position on the
existence of god(s), which is the entirety of atheism.
"everyone and everything is valid... there is nothing unimportant. valid
comes from value" This, my friend, is bullshit. Complete and utter
bullshit. Validity does not come from value. Just because something is
valid doesn't mean it is valuable, and just because something has value in
some fashion most certainly does NOT mean it is valid.
@FreePlay Everyones Ideas... Ideals are equally valid. Who's to say that
you are absolutely right on everything? Who's to say I'm absolutely right
on everything? Religion IS philosophy. Any religion doesn't have the
monopoly on truth. Also Atheism is a form of philosophy too. And we don't
have the monopoly on truth either. :)
"But the US, UK, France, Russia and China have veto power." So I guess all
the other countries are just fucked then, huh? "The UN Security Council can
create a binding resolution under chapter 7, which concerns threats to
international peace and security." That kind of sounds like global
government to me.
that i love. I personally stopped believing in Santa when the kids on the
bus made fun of me for it (though I still kept going along with it even
after I knew it was my mother, because it's kind of fun, when you realize
the truth, accept it, understand it, but still pretend in the spirit of
harmless fun)
Can we try to force a UN resolution so that Science cannot be blasphemed
against? I wouldn't want it to actually pass, because it would show just
how moronic the UN actually is, but if Religions can claim special status,
reality should be able to claim special status. Namely that of being
reality...
I was not suggesting a class where children are indocturnated(sp) to Jesus.
I believe that a class on philosophy would be good... covering major
religions and thinkers... including atheism. I'm not religious. I grew up
in Canada where multi-culturism was taught. We celebrate our differences. :P
It doesn't matter if their beliefs are illegal. It's currently legal to
refuse treatment for your cancerous child and instead opt to simply pray
for them. Jehovah's Witnesses can legally refuse life-saving blood
transfusions. And so on. Teaching children lies is despicable, legal or not.
Why don't they just kick these countries out of the UN? Enough with the
politics, speeches, meetings, resolutions and other mumbo jumbo. Act like
individuals and human beings and not like spineless politicians and just
throw them out of the building. If they oppose tell them to shove it.
@787Bisurdaddy How is it not philosophy? I'm not religious. Atheism is a
set of beliefs that contradict Judeo-Christinism I believe it means
Anti-Theology.. I'm not sure about that, but that is how I see it... I am
against theological dogma. correct me if I'm wrong please. :P
"Everyones Ideas... Ideals are equally valid." No, they AREN'T. There is
some idea that is closer to a reflection of what actually exists in
reality. When someone claims that the earth was made 6,000 years ago over
the course of six days, *their ideas are not as valid*.
Let's face it. A real education that required critical thinking is sorely
absent in most of the US today. We need more involvement at the local level
to keep this crap out of our kids heads. You want a spiritual and moral
education, fine. Don't mistake it for science.
"The fact of evolution is the backbone of biology, and biology is thus in
the peculiar position of being a science founded on an improved theory, is
it then a science or faith?" -- From: L.H. Matthews' 1971 introduction to
Charles Darwin's: "On the Origin of Species"
I dunno a thing about Islam, I was referring to christianity's love thy
neighbour bit and the positive stuff that could come of it if people chose
to focus on that side. And thank you whoever voted me down for stating my
opinion, 'preciate it :p
I'M GLAD YOU'RE BEGINNING TO SEE IT MY WAY >:3 no, but seriously, not all
ideas are equally valid. that's the sort of dangerous equivocation that
leads to people believing in alternative medicine, energy healing, crystal
nonsense, etc.
Emotional Reasons For Believing In God - The Atheist Experience #595
Best Atheist Experience clips & chat: • //www.atheism-magazine.com/Atheist_Experience_Live_Chat_Room1.html The Atheist Experience Live (Sundays): ...
Definitions: Faith: belief without proof Religion: ritual observance of
faith Hence, Evolution isn't a religion - there is documented proof to
support it. And no, man did not come from monkeys - we share an ancestor.
This is a common mistake made by those who have never researched evolution.
Rather than preach to us, you should educate yourself first and discover
the truth p.s I used to be religious. Then I educated myself. It's faith
vs. knowledge: Faith = religion, knowledge = freedom
"When I was a christian, I openly said that I believed in god because I
wanted to" same here. I never hid the fact that I believed because I wanted
to. That way I was rationalizing my belief (so that the evil atheists
wouldn't try to attack me :) ) The tactics worked until I realized that god
does absolutely nothing to help starving kids and such and that I believed
only because it comforted me but ultimately, only slightly open minded
Christians have the potential of becoming atheists
"It's difficult to prove at this point of time that Heaven and hell do
exist, kind of in the same way that it's also difficult to prove the year
2010 exists." Sorry, but that's a pretty shockingly bad analogy. For one we
are given every reason to believe in its existence based on the continuity
of the natural laws that govern the universe, and for the other there is no
reason to believe that exists out of fantasy. No faith what so ever is
required for 2010, because we have evidence.
Creationists would say," Uhh... Because God made those planets for us to
look at with awe, like the stars. For every logical true answer, there will
always be an illogical false answer. You can't ague with a brick wall,
formed by ignorance, and extreme denial, near the point of insanity. You
have to be insane not to believe in science and logic. I would also like to
add a quote from one of my heroes. James "the Amazing James Randi,"Always
ask questions, and stay skeptical".
It's amazing how humans (who are nothing on the geological timeline) can
decide whether or not if there is a mystical creator! The age of the Earth
is 4.6 billion years old. Scientists have proven that. So my perspective on
things, is that science created god! Does anyone else see things that way?
Also the fact that we are the only planet in our solar system to have life
confirms the non-existence of a mystical creator otherwise why couldn't
Jupiter have life?
I will go as far as to say that I would gladly compromise my intellect, and
self esteem to have no trace of the bullshit doctrine that's been put in my
head since childhood. It's so easy to be fooled. Takes not just knowledge,
comprehension, and understanding of what's real. The irrational, dogmatic,
thoughts of religious bullshit have a very small "voice" in my head.
Nevertheless, they can fuck with my thoughts a bit. Any suggestions?
this is one of my primary arguments against theists, it's not that they
BELIEVE in god, they WANT to believe in god we have to make them think
about that for a second. We have to sort make THEM convince themselves of
that fact. They will still be lying to us, they will still tell us that
that's not the reason, BUT deep inside, in the back of their head they will
know That's the first and most crucial step in my opinion
lol mohammed the cute cow on the host shoulder :3. i did was a christian
and my biggest reason to bealive in the god of the bible was because of the
great honor duty u can get by preaching the word in order to save humanity
from eternal damnation... but reason, logic and science evidence was to
practical and real to bad the bible it wasnt true heaven was a very cool
place to be after death but the truth is what matters
(To the tune of Cole Porter's What Is This Thing Called Love) What is this
thing called Faith. This crazy thing called Faith. Just who can solve its
mystery. Why should it make a fool of thee. I see it everywhere, every
day. It takes your mind and throws it away. That's why I ask Mark Twain,
That witty old wraith, What is this thing called Faith. (And Mark Twain
answers: Faith is believing what you know ain't so!)
people are religious because: intuitively they 'feel' the truth of a higher
purpose, a god how they express that intuition is varied, depending on
their background , location, time in history, influences, suggestions from
others etc etc. it is like a clear light shining though a multicoloured
window , each colour representing the individual perspectives(religions).
but really only one light, one truth.
well yeah but u know how arrogant i was when brainwashed by bible
indoctrination since a child, u think of yourself as the most important
person cause u have "god" on ur side , u do have a mission to make other
people to get to your "heaven" and blind yourself by how unethical is
jehova by giving an infinite punishment for a finite crime... the one who
made the god of the biblie is a prick...
Texas is big enough for everything! Thank God for those of you who are
willing to encourage skeptical thinking. While I appreciate going to the
end of all reasoning for everything and disprove religion, I also know that
those who are not so gifted are more often educated about ethics along side
scientific method and religion. Thanks for the charming work..
You really haven't offered up any "Darwinist dogma", all you've given so
far are unfounded and unsuported statements that the theory of evolution is
a religion and that there exists some kind of "Darwinist dogma". Anyway we
do not accept the theory of evolution because of Darwin but because of the
overwhelming amount of evidence in it's favour.
There does seem to be a disposition in people to believe in beings greater
than themselves. I think it was a coping mechanism from our proto-human
ancestry, but in the light of science, it no longer suits humanity (our
survival). Religions now are just cults on a large scale, and now they are
endangering our survival.
I guess you could do a google scholar search on "neurotheology". Otherwise,
if you just wanted a light into, american atheists have a lecture here on
youtube called "Why we believe in God" or something like that. Which
presents the general ideas involved and explains which mechanisms god
belief hooks onto.
I don't think you know what religious dogma is. I don't believe in "Darwins
theory". I do however think that he was the discoverer of the mechanism
that explains the diversity of life on earth; with every bit (mutation,
selective pressure, evolution) back up by all later found evidence.
@abnergarcia413 it's starting to fade away from popular thought however. A
significant portion of christians don't believe in hell because it's such a
viscous concept i think; We [atheist] reject the idea also but thanks for
being sympathetic. i don't hear that often :D
I was religious for several years, and what did me in was realizing that
doing something about my problems was MUCH more effective than praying
about them. Once that hit me, it freed me of my emotional partiality to
religion; upon which, I saw it was ALL bullshit.
What reason would we have to believe that 2010 will magically decide to not
exist? Based on the laws of physics and observational data, we know that
2010 will exist. God on the other hand, there's not even a shred of
spurious indirect evidence.
Part of it, is because we're social creatures that tend to conform to the
behaviors around us. Belief in general probably has some sort of
evolutionary explanation, from latent instincts that protected us from
predators.
@estarmes not to mention the constant god worshiping, praying and such. St
Peter must perform lobotomies upon admission. otherwise i can't imagine how
they can be eternally content up there
Yes, the 'fear of hell' is the last 'trick' that religion uses to 'keep you
in the flock'. It's all about playing the 'fear card'. And religion and
cults alike love to play the fear card.
There are also emotional reasons for committing Munchhausen by proxy,
murder, and tax fraud. That doesn't magically excuse them or make them any
less stupid.
I dont think they want to believe in God because they want their to be a
creator, they believe in God because they want eternal paradise. Its rather
greedy.
Dawkins suggests that human children's way of accepting everything the
elders say, is a good way of explaining, why the god meme spread.
