+Efi Eli You know what he means by "designed"...It doesn't have to imply Theistic creationism. It can imply the evolutionary design too, such as how Dawkins and other atheists (including myself) use the word.
Except for the fact that evolution is a form of selection by design, as in to say the "design" that is most fit for the environment will be selected for if all the relevant conditions are met. In that sense, your body has certain capabilities that are either exclusive to it or are simply what it excels at by design. Elliot is making a point for the fact that the human body is capable of lifting heavy shit off the floor and pressing it overhead using mainly the "man muscles" and proper technique, as opposed to bodybuilders that lack the functionality that is generally associated to their body's design.
Hey guys I need some serious help. I don't even know where to get advice
like this, can't find it on google. I'm 15 years old, 6', 170 lb (mostly
fat, no muscle) and am VERY weak (not trying to bash on myself, really need
help). I can barely do a push up (a wide one too, not right form), and my
arms are extremely thin (tried doing a diamond push up and really hurt
myself). Can you guys suggest me anything to build enough muscle to be at
least normal? I feel terrible about myself, and I'm ready for a change. If
you guys can help it would be great, I'm afraid that if my body gets any
worse I'm going to have to go to the doctors and take some stupid
rehabilitation program, which would suck. Thanks guys, I'm sharing some
embarrassing stuff here, but I hope you guys can get past the giggles and
really help me out.
I'm the same age as Elliott. It gets harder and harder to work out hard
over 30. It shows that you are just not 25 any more. I would have loved if
Elliott would have the guts to continue showing his workout, showing his
adapted workout. You can see that he has become smaller, less ripped that
he has adapted his workout. Of course thats not easy on one's ego to put
oneself out there when not having progress anymore, struggling with overuse
injuries or just getting weaker. But that how lifting over 30 is in
reality.
Hey guys, just thought I'd bring this up since in some of Elliot's older
vids he recommends this food. Brown rice over white rice, it is much better
to each white than brown. We had a guy come into our gym for a talk on
nutrition (he has a PhD in nutrition from top college here in Ireland) and
we asked him brown or white and he said 100% white, I can't remember
exactly but he said it was something to do with the husk of the rice
absorbing the pesticides and crap sprayed in it, so white over brown guys.
Ok, general question: Is this the death of good motivational workout
youtube fitness channels or what?? Strength Camp is, without a doubt, one
of the realest channels, with no subliminal messages, no roid heads
shouting shirtless, no "undercover" erotic footage...(yes, the female
hamstrings videos we all know about), no "gangsta" attitude...
We need to support channels like this one, as we are already flooded with
tatoo gangstas cursing and plastic women curling hamstrings.
Yo elliot, I just had a quick question. Or anyone on here can chime in
because any advice is welcome. I'm currently at 17.9% body fat, 186lbs. I
want to get to at least 15% body fat before I lean bulk. Right now I
already eat clean, track my macros and hit them every day. My split is
50/30/20 (carbs, protein, fat) and my daily caloric intake is 2,901 calories.
I know this is not enough to bulk with, because I should be around 3,500
calories. My question is how do I go from17.9% body fat to 15% at my
current caloric intake. To put it simply, what changes in my diet that can
help me drop at least 2.9% body fat as quick as possible. Thank you.
+Flyers1298 2900 calories seems abit high for a cut at your weight and bf%. I don't know how fast your metabolism is so i can't be certain. You should go for a 20 to 25% deficit from your maintenance, this is still a safe range. If you want to eat more then you just have to workout longer/ do more cardio to get the deficit you need.
The Snatch - CrossFit Connect Olympic Lifting Series
The Snatch is probably the hardest lift to learn in all of CrossFit and indeed weight lifting. Its fast, explosive and needs a hell of a lot of cordination, balance and ...
If the lifter lands in the full deep squat position, just before the weight
returns to a negative acceleration, and doesn't jump back or forward, they
have pulled correctly. That's the only way a lifter can tell if they are
pulling correctly. The pull is important, but less important than landing
in a full squat position under complete control and being able to stand up
with the weight instantly.
Great video, and nice and straightforward. Too much detail and my lift
starts breaking down into a series of sections, with predictably dire
results. I love the snatch, although mine is truly still a bit of a power
snatch. Would love to be nailing it like Holly shows here. Will get there
in time! Thanks again.
Thanks for the respose. :) Glad you like it. There is a lot to think about
with the snatch but sometimes you can OVER think it! Think about what you
are going to do in between sets as you are resting but when you grab the
bar just do it! :)
just wondering do you have to catch it in a squated down posisiton or is
that just to help get it cuz if its lite i dont squat down just stay
standing up with my legs bent a little
@CrossFitConnect I've been looking for an OLY gym nearby, unfortunately
that's a few hours away so i probably won't go there ;) THanks and keep
lifting though!
They are the strongest and hottest girls in the world! Show this to your girl friends so they can stop once and for all the "I-don't-lift-heavy cause I'm gonna get ...
personally, I hate this type of weightlifting going ass to heel. Good way
to wear out your hips and knees. These ladies are going to pay for this 20
years down the road.
+sammy1995 Dat ass though, hnnnnng... I did bodybuilding for 2.5 years, and when I squatted, I did ATG Squats(ass to the grass) and enjoyed doing the lifts in this video. You can see my competition videos on this youtube account. Now I don't compete and it's been years since I last lifted. I doubt my hips and knees will wear out within the next 10, 20 and 30 years!!! I don't look as good as I used to when I competed, and I have yet to meet someone that actually had muscle or bone deterioration caused by working out a certain way. On the other hand, they are built to last if they never stop!!!One of my videos posing.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7IaFjsv4ZxA
The Journey TV heads to Crossfit Bolt in Coppell,Texas to show some basic Olympic lifting movements (General Overview) and talk with Owner/Coach Matt ...
I'm 100% self taught in all of my Olympics lifts. I've realized that I've
gotten stronger with them all and I can lift some heavy weight, but my form
has suffered. I'm now dropping all of my weights down by about 60% and
doing the more advanced lifts to perfect my form. It's a bit frustrating,
but I know it's what's best for me. Great video!
hey, just wondering what your thoughts are for people who have normal
barbells, but not bumper plates or an olympic lifting platform ? Is it safe
to just lower down the bar without dropping it ? Obviously not with a big
load.
As a longtime weightlifter it is so cool to see all the fitness guys
beginning to show interest in the olympic lifts, imo free weight training
can give you so much more than any machine could. :-)
After following this channel for years a couple of things have become very
apparent to me.
1. There is no main focus in this gym, it's just a bunch of people mixing
random training philosophies day in and day out with no real goal in mind.
2. No-one in the gym is good at 1 singular thing, everyone is just very
mediocre at everything.
3. No one at the gym is really truly strong. Not even Elliot.
4. Hybrid muscle is a lie. There is only strength and various athletic
attributes.
What this gym and these videos aim for look like a good concept on paper,
but in reality it just doesn't work. You're only going to be exceptional at
1 or 2 things, and I really do feel sorry for anyone who takes advice from
this channel and gets trapped spinning there wheels for an extended period
of time.
+Collin Quarles As I mentioned Chris is an elite jumper and propably a very good sprinter too, I learned alot from him. And Elliot is truely strong or was, it also depend who you compare him to, compare him to the average youtube fitness guru, he rank high up there. But I agree with you about the rest of his crew, it all seem very random. I geuss Elliot is trying to make something like Barts Barbell Brigade crew. But Barts success lies in that he has a girlfriend and friends like Lu with characters that really stands out. And he constantly surrounds himself with other youtube celebrities like Omar Issuf and others. For me Strength Camp is still Elliot and Chris, his other crew member need to step their game up lol. But I guarantee you if Elliot had someone like Brandon Carter and Frank Yang join his crew, Strength Camp will be more popular than all the other fitness channels.
Elliot's training advice is sub-par on it's best day, that's why no-one at his gym has ever done anything anywhere close to elite level. He's a good coach if you want to be average at just about everything. His life advice isn't terrible, but it isn't the best.
+Collin Quarles Chris is damn good at jumping. And Elliot is very good at 1 singular thing, and that is to give advice for training and life in general.
I need your guys opinions. What do you think is the best to workout if you
want to be stronger at fighting someone? I dont wanna fight someone, but
its nice to be strong and to know that I can protect myself. So, I mean,
what is the best way to workout? Training some martial art such as MMA,
karate, taekwondo or bodybuilding and strongman stuff?
Elliott looks like someone who can really take care of himself, yet, hes
not intrested in martial arts. So any suggestions?
+Tank Wrold I personally would recommend some strongman style work, as it has you lifting a lot of awkward odd-objects which will make you strength more versatile and better suited for lifting everyday things. As far as martial arts, I would highly recommend Capoeira. It teaches you whole-body movements, will improve your balance by teaching you how to strike and attack from awkward positions, greatly improve flexibility, will make your general body-weight movement and agility much better and more efficient, and it is a martial art disguised as a dance, so you can seriously throw someone off guard with it if you ever needed to defend yourself.
+Tank Wrold Lifting heavy does not mean you can fight. It helps but if you don't train striking or grappling then... well... you can't strike or grapple.
