Dear Stefan I want to say thank you for all your helpful advice, You helped
be more confident in my goal to be a public speaker, for you introduce the
concept of toastmasters club, that you can find anyway around the world and
that I have found one close to me and thanks. Now here is my question to
you I see that you took a speed reading course and if you have any advice
in that field or recommend any books?

I think I like children's books, fantasy, fairy tales, classics by Charles
Dickens and Frances Burnett etc. best. Hm... you may like Inkheart by
Cornelia Funke, a novel for book-lovers originally written in Germany. Or
the Auralia Thread series by Jeffrey Overstreet which is very beautifully
written and is thought-provoking. Or Winter's Tale by Mark Helprin. Or the
Book Thief, by Markus Zusak. Which one of Stephen King's good books would
you recommend a sixteen-year-old who doesn't like horror?
I saw that too, i was looking to see if you had a copy of Gerald's Game and
i don't think i saw it but Candy, you must read it! I read it once a year
or so but i haven't read it lately and i was actually thinking about it
last week. Now i think i am ready to settle into it and read it. It's
spooky and addicting! lol Also there is another book that i read called The
Debutantes (fiction) by June Flaum Singer. Right now i am on a self-help
kick and have read Melodie Beattie books, nice collection!
Growing up in Mississippi, it was impressed upon us to regard Faulkner as a
writing god, and there is in my heart a place perfectly fashioned for him.
I like how his sentences can roll on as long as the Mississippi River.
Plus, as I first started writing creatively when I was a teenager, the way
Faulkner birthed Yoknapatawpha county to be the setting for most of his
work inspired me as to see the boundless opportunity to create beyond the
literal world we are in. Enjoyed your library tour! :)
Some suggestions for future reading. "Vampyr" A collection of horror tales
from mainly 19th century sources. The title tale is by John Polidori,
Byron's friend and it was his contribution to the famous story competition
in which Mary Shelley produced "Frankenstein". Historical: "Nicholas and
Alexandria" an account of the Tsar and Tsarina's lives and reign up to
their deaths at the time of the October Revolution. Amazing and tragic.
Also "Travels with Charley" by John Steinbeck. All Folio.
What a delightfully eclectic collection of books! A great home library. I
was also impressed with your Folio Society collection (I've been an addict
for years, which is why I'm facing poverty!). I've been toying with buying
their edition of Rebecca for awhile now and based on your recommendation I
think I'll have to cough up the money! We have similar reading habits; I
also read one fact, one fiction at a time. Four titles on the go at the
moment! I have yet to own a vagina card holder!
In the case of some authors that is correct. Updike is an example;
Dostoevesky certainly; But an author such as Faulkner, who may take two
paragraphs to tell you that three people and a dog are going in and out of
a house, is not an example of a something difficult to comprehend; it is
simply poor communication; his "art" requires one to reread sentence after
sentence in order to "get it" and when one finally does "get it" its much
ado about nothing. Sure its the reader not the writer?
I enjoyed watching that although out of all the books you mentioned I only
have 4 in my library. Not counting the classics which I saw like Homer et
al! I am currently reading My Big TOE by Thomas Campbell. TOE is an acronym
for Theory Of Everything and its a mind blowing read. The other book I am
into is Mushrooms and Mankind by James Arthur. It resonates with me the
evidence seems to suggest that psychedelics played a part in our conscious
evolution and books like that rock!
Sorry to disagree with you, but you are completely wrong! The slower you
have to read someone's work, the more difficult it is to comprehend, so
logically, the author's mind is much more complex than most of other
writers. That is the quality that makes brilliant writers. Try reading
Dostoyevsky with fast reading technique; you won't understand a single
word, then try reading it slowly and you shall be amazed with his way of
thinking.
I think you'll like Anne Rice too because it talks about a time when there
is betrayal and bad stuff happening of today's teenagers and teenagers of
the past and it send out a good message to thoughs in need of help and
wanting to have a relationship of today. It is sort of like twilight and it
talks about vampire love and romance but through an adult way. By the way
it is a book by Anne Rice and it is called The Witching Hour.
I think you should read Virginia Woolf the name of the book is called the
lighthouse it is about an author of the 1882-1941 that transformed the art
of the novel to great makeing of word that influenced people of today .She
writes for the people sending a message of war during her time and of
today. She also writes for a great sense of morality. She is great I think
you'll love her books.
Loved the video. Very varied tastes you have in literature! I collect
mostly "vintage" (I hate that term.) paperbacks. Three bedroom house, every
room filled save the bathroom, kitchen and basement. I'm very happy to see
a video by someone who loves books and reading as much as I do. Thanks for
showing us your collection. As for suggested reading...try Frederick
Exley's "A Fan's Notes".
Dont let anyone fool you; Faulkner is an overrated hack. I've read each and
every book from Soldiers' Pay to The Reivers and i say any writer you have
to keep re-reading passages and sentences of, so it can be understood, is
NOT a good writer. He will always be on the list of alledged "great
writers"...i'd rather read a Heinz Beans label.
@zeuberwench Damn so little time to tell about all my books. I too have a
lot of poetry: Sherman Alexie, Sylvia Plath, Ginsberg, ee cummings, etc. I
also have - I think - everything Tom Robbins ever wrote. And my copy of
Rilke's Letters to a Young Poet is totally broken in! So awesome to have
other book lovers to share my love with!!
Cool - one of my fave things about YouTube is hearing the perspectives of
folks that I would never get a chance to meet in real life, such as you!
Loved hearing your take on Faulkner! Your comment will be in the back of my
mind the next time I attempt him!
I'd just started my Folio collection. I have bought two as a starter. I'm
still young, so I plan to buy a lot of Folio collections... but your
collection is beautiful! Gah! It must have cost a lot! Btw, are you a Folio
member? If you are, is it worth it?
Nice collection! I dream of having that many books one day.
I read As I Lay Dying with a guide by Sparknotes on hand. That made things
a whole lot clearer for me. I don't know if that made me fully understand
it, but it sure made me appreciate it.
Thanks for the suggestions. I have Nicholas an Alexandria - maybe time for
a reread on that one. I've jotted your other suggestions down on my list of
book wishes - which I leave out on the table when my birthday or Christmas
rolls around! : )
@juliethepiercer Thanks Julie! The e-reader only tempts me in relations to
the many hours I spend on planes and in air ports and the fact that it s
easier to tote - but I just don't think I can let the romance of my books
go....
Many folks agree with you! Hey have you seen Hemmingway and Gelhorn yet? If
not, go rent it right now - such a good movie about their time together -
we mixed martinis to watch it and I ordered her biography right after!
Ha! I love it when fellow book lovers find their way to this video! I love
Seattle! Love lola restaurant and the Pike Place market and I was surprised
at how much I enjoyed "riding the ducks".
Gerald's Game - OMG Gerald's Game. My friend I threw out our handcuffs
halfway through that book!! What an awesome scenario - no bad guy - just a
really bad situation. So loved it!
I love this video! Are you aboriginal, or just really fascinated by them?
=) Please check out my channel! I love the fact that you have such a
variety of topics on your channel. =)
Hey nothing wrong with liking teen books. =) I love teen books and I'm in
my 30's. They're are some really great ones. Have you tried "The Hunger
Games" or "Clockwork Angel"?
p.s. if i can write "the dog went into the house" and Faulkner must take a
convoluted path to say the same thing, are you sure thats a "complex" mind
or a disorganized one?
I followed your advice and at this very moment I am reading Rebecca by
Daphne du Maurier. And you were right. It's definitely one of the best.
Thanks for your advice!
I'm not a member now - but have TOTALLY enjoyed being a member in the past.
Yes, it is costly but if you are into books - OH MY they are so beautiful!!

If aliens on the edge of our galaxy were to look at the earth through a
telescope this second they would see the dinosaurs.
...just an extra cos you earned it for scrolling.
+FlatOutEntertainment That's not even remotely true, though. The galaxy is only about a hundred thousand light years across, and we're not near the center. The aliens in your scenario would see us inventing farming and taming goats.
