My 4 year old multipoo has been well trained since he was a puppy. He has
lots of exercise and attention each day. My problem is that I have just
moved him to a new apartment a month a go and he's having separation
anxiety. How do I apply clicker training to help him when I leave him home
alone? I also need to teach him to use a crate sometimes when I leave the
house.
Thanks
An Introduction to Clicker Training
From Virginia Broitman and Sherri Lippman's The How of Bow Wow, this clear overview of clicker training gives you the basics in just one minute! From the ...
Thanks so much to Sherri, Virginia and Karen Pryor for all you have done
for dogs - especially shelter dogs. I adore clicker training but I want to
say to those new to positive reinforcement training that you do not have to
use a clicker! I do, but it takes some skill. If you want you can just say
"yes" and deliver the treat. Some people find this easier (and helps keep
their frustration level down). I mean, we want pos. reinforcement for
people too and nothing better than quick success!!
lilcarlitos5 and urstruly83: The clicker helps you teach the dog what
behavior to do. Once the behavior is established, you THEN put it on cue
(teach the dog the command that goes with it). Once the whole concept
(command/cue -> behavior -> reward) is strong, you can reduce the value of
the rewards (going from food or toys to praise) and drop the clicker. You
dont need to use the clicker to tell the dog what to do so he will do it
even if you havent had a clicker in use for years.
You may have counted correctly and if your dog is predisposed to weight
gain you may have to plan how much you feed. Compared to how much you use
to clicker train with. I train with my dog everyday Rally-O, Flyball,
Obedience, Agility, Frisbee and tricks I don't always use just my clicker
allot of time I mark with a "Yes" or I use a toy and play. I think till you
actually get out and start trying to train your dog and stop poo pooing
this idea you will not see results.
Every psychology student can do this, and much more interesting and fun
stuff with animals.... for eg... get a pigeon to play a piano ie a specific
tune(takesa bit long though) i haven't checkout the clicking website but if
it cost money to download then you can go to wikipedia learn the priciples
behind it and do it yourself.... thats "classical conditioning" or
instrumental conditioning....
Find something she REALLY loves, whether it is a toy, your affection,
another type of treat, or whatever she goes CRAZY over. Make sure you are
properly clicker training, and "load" the clicker. For example, click the
clicker and give her the reward so she knows good things come from the
clicker! Good luck!
my dog was given to me and shes already 2! i just started clicker training
but its not going to well! when i try to give her a command and then treat
she just walks away from me or she wont try to get the treat! what should i
do?
No, she is clicking at the instant the 'correct' behavior occurs, to inform
the dog that it is doing something 'good'. The reward always follows - do
you have your audio turned on? Google it and educate yourself.
I love Sherri and Virginia! I have all of the Bow Wow videos, and they are
awsome.

Hey there. So this is so this is a common misconception popularized by traditional dog trainers that rely on tools to make life unpleasant when their dog does not perform as desired. Here's a video that will explain the dominance myth: ==> https://plus.google.com/107984602498948672598/posts/ZndGCQHkPrj
+Kai ParkerI used to think like you but now I can see that a Clicker device could actually be beneficial for dog training and make the process a lot easier.Cheers.
Because the click is a precise unique sound that acts like a teaching tool to capture the exact action behavior you want. Works better with free shaping small baby steps during the behavior you want . If you use "Good Dog" for teaching the action behavior, many times it will be confusing. Did you want to capture the action behavior at the beginning of the "good" or the middle of the "Dog"? Also, I use "Good dog" just because I love my dog so it would decrease the power of a teaching tool too. Once the whole behavior is learned, then you can drop the click and then add "good dog" at the end of the behavior.
Question: when doing a training exercise.. how long should it be? 10 mins
or 1 hr? ect. I noticed with treats hidden in my hand he kept giving up &
laying on me or beside me. wasnt' sure to give him click/treat or not. thx
To all those busy arguing about cesar millan Vs positive reinforcement,
I don't care if dogs are pack animals or not. I don't even care if dogs are
still part wolves or not. All I WANT IS THAT MY DOG SHOULD TREAT ME AS A
LEADER (EVEN IF THEY ARE NOT PACK ANIMALS). I WANT MY DOG TO COME TO ME OUT
OF RESPECT AND NOT THINKING THAT I AM A TREAT SLOT MACHINE.
UNFORTUNATELY OR NOT CESARS METHOD DOES DO THAT SO STOP CRITICIZING HIM
JUST BY WATCH SMALL YOUTUBE VIDEOS THAT DON'T SHOW THE WHOLE STORY. WATCH
FULL EPISODES.
So what do you do if the dog doesn't preform or doesn't 'respect' you? What are the consequences? That's the difference between Cesar and clicker trainers. Cesar uses fear which does not encourage a trusting relationship of a compassionate leader. It's not fun for the dog either. Clicker trainers understand if the dog doesn't preform, then they haven't taught it correctly or haven't practiced the behavior enough.I've read Cesar's books and many ideas like exercising the dog are great, but I'm not into fear based training. Many of the things he teaches do not work in the real world, like shh shh shhing the dog. Maybe my voice isn't scary enough--- didn't work on mine. But then again, I am a strong leader yet don't need to become a barky person.Another question--- What kind of leader are you? Cesar works well with leaders who shout down their subordinates . I've also known leaders who give tokens of thanks for a job well done that are well appreciated. It's called money that puts food on the table.
Hmmmm, I suppose you go to work every day purely out of respect for your employer? Properly done the rewards given during +R training are merely to build motivation. Nothing compares to seeing a dog eager to 'nail it' when you ask something from them. You don't get that by dominating them.I have found that I get respect when I earn it, not by intimidation. I have watched many full episodes of CM and thought he was great when he first appeared on TV, too! Since then, I have learned a LOT and trainers like Emily have helped rehab my reactive dog while the dominance methods made her worse. Why use force and intimidation if you can simply ask? Yes, it takes more effort on my end but, it's totally worth it!

Are you a dog trainer yourself, or is this just something you enjoy doing?
I'm ok with either answer, I'm just wondering. I just got a german shepherd
myself last monday and I think he's almost the exact same age....born on
May 9th, so I'm very much interested in any help for training as I know
it's going to be super important!
He's biting a TON, haha. I guess that's to be expected since he's still got
teeth coming in, but yeah, lots of bite marks! He's completely clicker
trained in that he knows what it means, and because of that he also now
know's his name, which is good. Still makes quite a few messes in the
house, but they're becoming less.
Hi James, I have worked with a number of service dogs but not an official
