bird's-eye view Hovenring Eindhoven (the Netherlands) designed by ipv Delft
This spectacular circular cycle bridge in the Dutch city of Eindhoven has recently been opened to the public. The cable-stayed bridge, designed by ipv Delft, ...
No it is not. The entry points are still 90 degree turns of small radius, just as they would be if they were into points along the sides of the square. Also the ring appears to be supported at four points which necessitates design of a curved beam subject to torsional loads, so it is structurally more difficult. It is also not space efficient as the perimeter of a circle is greater than the perimeter if an inscribed square. But it does look nice.
no, the ring is more space efficient then a square when concerning how the connections would work, not to mention the sharp turns on a square would be unpleasant on a bicycle or scooter, a ring is more fluid, also a small circle would also be inefficient because then the connections would need to be longer to reach the circle and thus need more reinforcement, besides it's not on much real estate in the air so it can use as much space as it wants since it's not really occupying the land below
But why does all that light shine upwards from the ring inside the bike
path? That is both inefficient and light polluting. Doesn't anyone do
astronomy in the Netherlands?
This Dutch have too much spare time and too much money.Istead of beeing
concercerned of creating new parks and plant some more trees in aria like
din right bank in the video at 0:11 , the ONLY EXISTENTIAL PROBLEM of
them,is to make a suspended loophole for cyclists ... "GREAT" ... Now make
another one for 18 wheelers, over that another suspened one for bus lanes
etc :| ...
+Mark HowardWell,i live in Romania. No,i've never been to a dutch city, but making bike paths in the detriment of nature.IT'S MY OPINION.I'm not trying to change no one's ... just saying ...How much % of the country is wooded ?
+motanelustelistu where is it you live? Have you been to a Dutch city? They are quite dense you know and they focus more on moving people around by bike than filling the streets with trees that may take up cycle path space.
+motanelustelistu I think your missing the whole point. There is small trees planted in the bank but it is not about trees, as I said Eindhoven is surrounded by lots of forrest. The point of the Hovenring is traffic improvement and a safer crossing for cyclists. This is a main arterial road into Eindhoven and was a busy intersection with cars, trucks, buses and cyclists. With the exclusion of cyclists crossing the road they were able to improve traffic flow by reconfiguring the road and light signals. A couple of years ago Eindhoven was voted smartest region of the world, they're known for innovation and design being the home of Phillips.
+inepthabit Well ... Excuse my missafirmation.I meant that is a pitty to live a space without trees. It look and "works" way better in every circumstances every green space to have trees to the maximum.Maybe you'll understand how i like cities to look,if you look at this photo //oi62.tinypic.com/35m32j8.jpg .The photo is real.
+motanelustelistu You said that it's useless to leave unused green space with only grass on it, obviously I was talking about that when trying to explain that it might look useless to you but that doesn't mean it is.
+inepthabitI don't see the use of green space? You're awfully mistaken ... I LOVE GREEN SPACE and NATURE,thats why thi kind of weird constructions bothers me.
+motanelustelistu There's not alot of space. If the Dutch wouldn't have modified alot of nature, our country would have been alot smaller, we created almost half our country ourselfs, it's below sea level, it's natural state is water, not trees or whatever. Also, there are more bikes than people in the Netherlands, solutions like the one in this video might be silly to you, but are very useful here. Also, you might not see any use to that green space, but that doesn't mean there isn't any. Often spaces like those are there to help prevent floods.
+Mark HowardWheels there could be more. Its useless to leave unused green space with only grass on it.Also ... why on earth, you have to modify so much the nature ? I like natural simple cities ...
