+Chas Douglas they were not trying .... it was a celebration / party for Bob. Lots of party favours and sloppy guitar with a lousy sound engineer or he was partying too much too and just passed out.
+DJ “The Trainman” Walker Glad you pointed out the virtues of the guitar neck. I enjoy it's unique patterns, the open string chords especially on an acoustic. Lately, by using the capo, I can play these open chords while singing in , say Bb or B. It really lets me find the best keys for me, as far as my vocal range is concerned.
+Terry Pursell I'm the other way round, I find a keyboard makes something that seems simple on a guitar seem complicated. (Just personal perspective, not a judgement)I like the way patterns repeat all over the neck of a guitar, it let's me change key easily to match the root of the rhythm chords, adding variation to improvisations. Or to wander into related keys (4th 5th 7th etc).I can bang out a few chords on keyboards and wander about in C, D or E convincingly (nothing tricky)I think reading music helps with keyboard skills, not a talent I was lucky enough to aquire.
Hey, I enjoyed having an opportunity to see if I could speak the language of music. My primary instruments were drums and trumpet growing up, adding the guitar around my sophomore year, then steel guitar. The steel guitar was such a complex instrument, after 5 years or so, I decided I'd be better off spending my time on the keyboard. Lately, I have seen how much you can improve on the theory side, by the way keys are laid out. I have used the number system, for years, on guitar, but was happy to study the number system using the keyboard. Everything I knew from guitar, is useful and perhaps more visible, on a keyboard.
+Terry Pursell How chords work with each other is fascinating. The problem with Bob is he changes what he does all the time. For a long time he played hendrix's arrangement (c#) (and at least one guitarist here is doing so.) but here Bob's playing the A. Something is amiss As the rythm and keyboards seem to be carrying it.Logically playing from a different root over the chord should work provided you aim at an alternate (serialist?) Tonality, but it usually takes lots of precision to pull it off. OK I formally offer to shut up now as I can get quite involved.
Hey, you got on that quickly. I enjoyed your reply....on the C# minor chord, it appears, that if you put a C# minor triad on top of A minor, you have Amaj7.....of course, chords with the same notes have different names depending on the key signature, However the note C# seems to be amiss in an A minor chord, because of the third note (C) in A minor, does not match well with the root note of C# minor. But my theoretical knowledge only goes so far.
