Given the type of swords used against armor in Europe you just can't make that claim so boldly. The vague sharpness on those Euro swords turned out to not only be subpar but over all worthless if you are just going to thrust with the damn thing. The versatility both the samurai sword and armor offers just doesn't allow people to easily say that the European armor and swords were better and more effective in battle. Again, you grow fatigue very quickly which is why knights were more often horse fighters. Ever wonder where the word "chivalry" comes from?

+Shrekas 2 Yeah I've seen them before, too much time wasted not to expose any holes, not exactly designed to help that much in battle. Really the same issue as the nun chucks and axes. All that metal around you will eventually weigh you down. I've even seen a legit knight fight against an unarmored guy demonstrating halfswording techniques, his friend in armor grew tired quickly. That European chainmail just doesn't complement the body the body well hence why they preferred plate. Nothing that impressive really.

Plus it retained its edge unlike European swords which were only good for thrusting, as long as they didn't miss or get crammed in shorter ranges. About chain mail in Japan: The Japanese used many different weave methods including: a square 4-in-1 pattern (so gusari), a hexagonal 6-in-1 pattern (hana gusari) and a European 4-in-1 (nanban gusari), the kusari links could be doubled up and some examples were tripled in a possible attempt to make the kusari bullet resistant. The links were lacquered black to prevent rusting, and were always stitched onto a backing of cloth or leather. The kusari was sometimes concealed entirely between layers of cloth. Their chainmail was actually better than that of Europeans. Why do you think the Knights started using full plate armor on top of it?

Hmmm probably because of its weak thin blade that sucked for cutting while curved swords like the katana could do both pretty well even thrusting through chainmail back when the samurai actually started using it. Saying the longsword is better because it's a tedious one-trick pony that requires time to master its one real advantage is a weak sauce argument. That would be like me saying nunchucks are better than baseball bats.
