Bravo ragazzo per questo filma! It's about time that the Italian people and peoples of Italian ancestry throughout the world--from Argentina to New Zealand--recognize their bagpiping heritage. As I like to good-naturedly jibe the Celtic folk, the Italians were playing the pipes before Jesus was a carpenter. The pipes represent continuity and a harmony with nature that humans had with the world before globalization, mega malls and credit cards. La zampogna e il fiato de la vita.

Your journey is one that many of us can identify with: the music, people, land and history is what connects many of us. @paulgra Ciaramedda simply means "zamogna" in Sicilian/Calabrian. However, the zampogna changes in form and function depending on the region they come from. Thus the zampognas in Sicily look and sound quite different than those found in say Abruzzo. So using the word "ciaramedda" could be referring specifically to the Sicilian style zampogna. Hope that helps :)

Well done, David. I truly enjoyed your video. I have always been fascinated by the culture as such, for instance, in the Mediterranean. Over here, the traditional folk music is almost fading but we are so glad that some enthusiasts have managed to revive them gradually. Keep up the good work. Warm regards from Malta. Jasmine

The DVD should play in Australia. I have it encoded for all the different regions. I have had people from Australia buy the DVD before and have had no negative feedback regarding the DVD not playing there. Thanks

@ozzirigiul E stato filmato nella periferia di Catanzaro. Suona una zampogna a chiave, il modello che si trova intorno di Catanzaro con tre bordoni, uno che suona il tonico. Il suonatore e' Nicola Nistico'.

i play and highland pipes and after that i feel exausted but 5 reeds to power how on earth did his lungs not collapse! i love the zampogna never seen a three drone one before though what type is it?

@GWRjim Thanks for your comment. The bagpipe played throughout the video is from Calabria, specifically Catanzaro province. Two drones play the dominant note (5th) and one plays the tonic (1st).
