Hi. I am curious as to why you use olive oil in your recipes - I don't see
it as being an "Asian" ingredient. I haven't been to Vietnam (yet!) but my
experience in southeast Asia is that they generally use more neutral
tasting cooking oil. Maybe it comes from the French? Thanks!
Well when you go to western country, you use what is avaliable and with all the new flavors that are offered some people like to use those instead. For example my mom puts italian sausage in fried rice sometimes
Hi Helen, I enjoy all your videos. I'd really like to go to Vietnam and
Thailand to travel. Around 3 months ago I because vegan (no meat or
anything from an animal), if I were to travel to vietnam would it be enough
to simply ask for all the Chay dishes? Or would I have to clarify further
to avoid fish/oyster sauces chicken stocks etc? Thanks!
+Gretchen Ward There are many restaurants for vegans in Vietnam, and you would not have any trouble finding one. If a restaurant posted a sign that said "Chay", it will use all vegan ingredients so you won't have to clarify further. But if you are asking for a "chay" dish in a non-vegan restaurant, be sure to clarify what condiments are used just to be on a safe side because not all restaurants operate the same way.
Japanes silken tofu will work. Most grocery stores carry silken tofu now.

Hello Chi! I was watching this old video of how you make the lotus soup
which is one of my all time favorite canh to eat. It's just exactly how I
cook it. I love the texture of the lotus in this soup and it's so
refreshing to eat with a bowl of rice. ;)
Great video, Justine! I like the new format and editing! Your voice over
was clear and succinct. The whole video was just so informative and
thorough. Love it! BTW, that illustration of you at the beginning was all
kinds of cool! :)
