Like the video Last time I went along the Alpine Way was in the mid 70’s in
a ‘64 EH Holden a classic Aussie motor t – built to last – go anywhere. The
road was a muddy road. We were going to sleep in the car at Thredbo – it
was so cold that we managed to “blag” a stay in the Sydney Ski Club chalet!
The road to Mount Kosciuszko was just a single track with very narrow
passing places. No mobile phones / breakdown recovery – if it went wrong,
sort it out yourself. Happy Days!! Cheers Richard
No dirt no more! It's all premium motorcycle touring country up there now.
Beautiful hot mix asphalt all the way out to Charlotte Pass. I have a vid
of that road as well.
BMW 1200 GS Blast past Ducati 1098 on Macquarie Pass, NSW, Australia
Awesome video footage of a DUCATI 1098 going up Macquarie Pass, South Coast, NSW. HOWEVER, the best bit is about a third of the way through the clip, ...
Parts of your bike touching ground is a sign that you are pushing yourself
(not the bike) too far, hence can't be considered "wow! great riding"
especially if you are on a public road. There are techniques to avoid that
and allow you corner even faster. Eg: Ride on the outer side of the curve
until you are at the apex, push it in&support with some hang off viola
10-20 miles faster, no scratching, even room for avoiding oncoming
danger... I ride a 1200 also it is the centerstand not the pegs...
Hi, great video. I was wondering something. How easy is the GS to live with
(compared to bikes in general, not for e.g. a sportsbike). I have a CBR600
and a CBR1100XX and am really considering trading both in for a GSA. I'm a
sporty rider but also enjoy 2 up touring (which is why I bought the
Blackbird and but hard cases on it). I know the GS is a torque bike but I
am really wondering if I'm going to miss the power of the BB.. Does it pull
nicely? I'm going to test one in a few days but you
@mulhollanddose i got an r1200gs - a good bike, but if you got whooped by
it on your supermoto you should simply practise a little more - the reason
why some gs riders are faster than riders on other bikes is because they
have no idea what their frontwheel is doing (due to telever) and assume
that everything is fine, while others with proper suspension crap their
pants ^^ don't get me wrong - the gs is a fabulous machine for what its
built for, but for real sporty riding its just too wobbly
Hi Basar, If you know anything about the GS they have changed the center
stand on every release in some way. I only scrap the center stand if I hit
a dip in the corner two up. If it is a nice flat corner I only scrape my
pegs occasionally. Are you an instructor or something...? I was looking for
someone to teach me how to suck eggs......! Only GP and Super bike riders
and road rider wankers "hang off". Its not a race mate. I wonder how many
times you have dropped your ride....?
looks like a really good road!!! are there roads like this out west near
Perth?? me and my wife here in the UK often talk about emigrating to OZ ,
we have family in Perth so thats where we'd probably end up, we have
amazing roads here, so its my worst nightmare to move all the way down
under then be left with a flat featureless landscape...with straight roads!!
I've owned both a 998s and 1200gs and personally i could go faster on the
gs on most roads then i could on the 998s . The easy riding position , wide
bars, suspension on rough roads gave me the confidence that i never had
with the duc. Not that the 998s wasn't a great bike . Have a 1200rt now and
hate it , think i will trade to another gs or maybe multistrada
Just watched this again!! not seen it for a while, brilliant, was the GS
fully loaded?? as in, where the panniers full?...he was riding the wheels
off the thing...respect to that man!! I think the better part of the road
for the Duke was from about 07.30 onwards as the road smoothed out and
widened up a bit...could really have stretched its legs there...
Hi Dazzelya, The GS is under powered however I can keep with nearly every
multi-cylinder except for the straights. Come into some corners and we keep
up easily. It is an awesome multipurpose bike that is easy to ride in
numerous situations and roads. Great carrying capacity and goes and handles
well. Especially the new water cooled boxer.
Paul you rule because you demonstrate how a motorcyclist SHOULD be. No
problem to talk and even post what an R1200GS (and the appropriate rider)
"did" to you, which doesn't diminish your riding skills after all (we all
have good and bad days). You stopped at the top and even swapped stories.
Great, you are an example.
Thanks man...I must admit I was having a blast and pasing the Duc was fun
and then him trying to catch a get past was even better. We had a really
good chat after we stopped. Nice bloke and mutual respect given. That is
how I got the video. It was just f*$#kin awesome. I want to do it again,
and again.
nice vid, loooked like the beemer was going to bin it every corner!! I have
an 848 which I sold my 1200 gs for, and now I can see why mates were
worried I was gokng to chuck it down the road...great fun wringing its neck
tho! will ghet amother when I can afford to have one and keep the 848
@stuYZFR1 Hi, It is BMW rider who posted to you tube, and yeah the panniers
where fully loaded. Scraped the pegs on a few corners. Duke finally got me
on the long overtaking double lane. He had the legs and power, however I
was right up his butt most of the time on the more open road.
You can see by the trajectory of the curves that the Ducati driver is a
total rookie! Just watch carefully the trajectory of the BMW. I drive a BMW
1200GS and I know that a Ducati 1098 would eat me any moment at the same
level of driving experience.
@MrEndersShadow69 I am actually the BMW GS rider. I got the video from the
Ducati Rider, and posted on to You Tube. However you are right, he pulled
his finger out of his bum and made a decent ride of it after I passed him.
Brilliant road too.
@PaulMac4659 No they are not underrated. They are underrated only from
people that don't have their minds open. Most people will tell you it's the
damn best two wheeler they have ever rode. (I know it is for me - that's
why I have one).
Why do you roll off so much around the corners? I'm not setting out to
negatively criticise you, you're a better rider than I, but I have always
been told to keep it open and gradually open up more from the apex rather
than the exit.
@Smoke1987jdalej having a Ducati up my arse and going so hard between
really tight corners you need to roll off a lot, besides I needed to get to
my destination in one piece and as it was I was scraping my pegs.
Those 1200s are no joke. Absolutely counterintuitive that they can lean
like they can. Must be the engine location that creates the balance. I got
whooped by one on my supermotard here in the Malibu canyons.
Thanks dude....I know what you mean about chucking in the corners. However,
she just took it in her stride and I just kept wringing its neck....Awesome
fun though. Wouldn't mind haveing a 1198 Duc myself.
Great video guys! I've got a 1098S and that vid gives you a very nice
impression of the 'experience' of riding one (the mechanical clatter and
the exhaust note). Kudos to the dude on the GS! Top stuff...
That BMW looks like something out of Total Recall or Starwars. Dude, I
thought those luggage racks were going to catch on those white posts on the
side of the road. You guys have brass balls.
Hate it when people speed up the video, just loses all its quality IMO.
Nice video all the same... the duke should win hands down anytime, any
place.... this is purely down to riders ability.
Hey thanks for the feed back. I agree with you in that we are all there to
enjoy the moment. Motorcycling is just awesome, and there will always be
someone better or worse that you. Cheers.
Yep I did eh! Your very clever. The Ducati did not have the balls to get
around the slow cars. It was only AFTER the BMW went past that the Ducati
also went over double lines. Get over it.
I'm I the only one who thinks the Ducati rider was a dick riding so close
to the Beemer after he got smoked? It's not like he got cut off;but he's
sure tailgating like he did.
Very nice, Love the fact that the GS was right with you when you slowed up.
Hitting Madrid, So. France and Italy in a month, ill try and post some up
as well.
Yeah I was....wringing the bikes neck to keep in font of the DUCATI. The
Duc' was quick though. He finally got me, and videoed the whole thing. Nice
Guy too.
Give the lens a quick hit with Rainex and the water droplets will clear
away.
BMW F800GS - Road coming out of Tilba NSW
riding my F800GS on quite a nice green scenery road coming out of Tilba NSW.

BMW M3 hill-climb, NSW Macquarie Pass
This footage was taken back in October 2009, when we spent a couple of days with brilliant BMW M3. This particular video was filmed during the Macquarie ...
Unless you want to waste a whole afternoon then dont do it :) It was very
manual as it was all a hand done animation within Adobe. Im sure theres
faster ways of doing it, of course if you have a GPS logger that would be
an ideal way.
no worries, thanks mate. You boys should borrow 1 of these cars for a week
and do a targa TAS haha. Id love to take a gallardo LP-560 up mac pass, can
you do one of them next haha.
