Its all a matter of personal opinion, alot of punk bands have toured with MXPX and hang out with other punk bands if you watch their set videos and such. So obviously someone, fans and the other bands must consider them punk. Maybe just not your style. =/

Green Day formed only a couple of years before both MxPx AND Blink-182, who formed in the same year (If I'm not mistaken). Think Ramones and The Sex Pistols, there's your inspiration for all three bands.

Green Day's been a band for about 24 years now, you get your facts straight, sir. Not a huge time gap in between the formations of both bands, but Green Day has been around longer, no doubt about that.

i think they can be considered a subgenre of punk, something like pop punk... NOFX are punk revival, Anti flag are hardcore punk. Clash, Ramones are the "real punk" of 1977. :D
