Diagnosis (2 of 5): Experience with Aspergers Testing
I'm in England & I started to really think I needed to get assessed last
summer even though I have thought members of my family have aspergers since
2003, my daughter was diagnosed with autism in 2004 when she was 4, I knew
she was autistic but no one took me seriously. I have my assessment in 3
weeks!
Thank you! I think it is female friendly, it's a new service for adults & I think it's because they are decomposing that a lot of older females are going undiagnosed!
Good luck! I know how stressful it can be to wait. It has helped me so much to know. I hope you are going someplace female-friendly. That made all the difference for me.
Do you live in the U.S? I've been thinking about getting diagnosed myself
but I've heard that Aspergers is no longer considered a diagnosis here so
I'm not really sure how to go about it in 2014.
Luca, yes I'm in the US. I found my facility on Rudy Simone's website. She used to have a list of places up there that diagnose women but now there are only two for some reason. If you're looking for a place, there are a couple good Facebook groups for women on the spectrum including one for American women. I'd suggest posting there in case someone knows a practitioner in your area. And regarding the diagnostic change, my doctor/facility diagnosed me based on ICD criteria so I did get a PDD-NOS diagnosis vs. a broader autism spectrum diagnosis which is what I would have had (possibly) based on the DSM.
I love this I am so happy for you and proud of you for coming out and doing
this video!! You sound great and so profoundly open and honest about your
experience. You're paving the way for other ladies in your age bracket to
have the courage to go through with a diagnosis/self identification. there
are hardly any sisters who discover much later, coming out and doing this.
thanks for being one of the first
Thanks, Rose! You are the best. You're making me all teary. I owe so much gratitude to you for all the work you've done in sharing your story and getting the word out about Aspergers in females. You have helped me understand myself so much better and you give me hope on a daily basis. I hope I can pass it on! Love you.
Diagnosis (4 of 5): Night Before Asperger Test Results (and Doctor Prejudice)
I am afraid that my current psychologist is hesitant with me because she
already told me that these things are usually diagnosed in children, but
she is starting to consider that I am on the spectrum. Partly because I am
being more open about some of the things that I have struggled with and
that I am struggling with. Yesterday in session while talking about a job I
had been laid off from in 2009 I had to stop because I was just about ready
to start sobbing. She asked me what I was feeling at that point and I just
said that I felt like crying because I suffered so much in that job by a
certain manager. What my psychologist doesn't realize is that I cry very
rarely, maybe once every 10 years or more. I will be sure to let her know
in my next session. It just seems that since I have been considering that I
may be on the autistic spectrum that my 'defenses' seem down and I feel so
raw. :-(
+MindOfHerOwn Thanks, but I was actually addressing my question to the woman in this video MindofHerOwn. Where did YOU get your diagnosis at? Or is there a reason you don't want to say?
+TruthCeeker333 It took me time to find the right place to get diagnosed. In my opinion, it should be based on a thorough neuro-psych evaluation with a full battery of tests. I'd say don't get discouraged. If you truly feel that you are on the spectrum and want answers, ask around in Facebook pages, WrongPlanet, etc. to see if people can suggest someone in your area. PS if you want to message me on my FB page and let me know where you're located I can let you know if I know of anything.
great video Sue. thanks for sharing with us. that sounds awful about that
aspie-denying doctor...i can't stand Drs like this and sadly, they're
rampant. I'm wishing you the very best of luck; sending you love and
prayers regarding tomorrow. I'm nervous for you too. i know exactly how
this feels..wrenchingly on edge. I haven't been on FB much but I'll be
checking to hear from you about your results!
Hi Rose, I just noticed this comment here. (I am still figuring out YouTube!). This, as well as your email to me, mean SO much to me. I am so glad that I am not alone on this journey! I know that all the prayers and good wishes helped me get through these excruciating couple of weeks. Much love...

its quite common that children line their toys in a line, but doesn't have
to be this at all. They could have repetitive behaviour such as flapping
their hands or twitching called mannerisms and also following routines
which is comforting to them.
Excuse me, I happen to have Asperger's myself and a very good life (with work and other commitments), so next time I suggest you think twice before making that kind of remark.
Females with Asperger Syndrome
This video is about the general symptoms/ personality traits females with Asperger Syndrome have.
It was until here recently I never knew there was anything "wrong" with me
as society would put it. Now I know I am just different and I am okay with
that. :)
