I have a question about lac operon,
I know that this happens only in prokaryotes but considering that the
bacterias in the digestive tract do part of the breaking down for us, here
is my chain of thoughts:
E.Choli produces lactase if: -lactose is present and -if glucose level are
low
I have always drinked a lot of milk ( a lot!) but lately I have started
being intolerant (big digestion problems, diarrhea etc :s) and this
strangely coincides with a great increase in my glucose consumption (I
found a candy wharehouse and buy a lot (a lot, a lot and a lot) of candies.
Can the fact that I eat so much glucose inhibit my system's ability to
digest lactose??
A few errors in the video. It is allolactose (an isomer of lactose) not
lactose that binds to the repressor protein in the lac operon. Also RNA
polymerase is still able to perform transcription without CAP/cAMP complex
just at a much lower rate. The only thing the CAP/cAMP complex does is
increase the affinity of RNA polymerase to the promoter region therefore
increase the chance RNA polymerase will bind and in turn increase the speed
of lac operon transcription.
Thanks for the video a lot but my teacher has mentioned that the level of
tryptophan is also important for the transcription. He said if there is
high level of tryptophan, the sides make some hairpin loop and there is
poly u tail. He told us that means something like transcription terminal
signal and it stops it. I am so sorry, I am not good enough to explain it
:( I just was going to say that can you add it too, because I can't
understand it
You sir, give some of the best verbal and visual descriptions I've ever
heard/seen. I'm taking a genetics class at a university, and I have learned
more from an hour watching your videos, than I have in my last 5 genetics
classes. It has to take FOREVER to put those videos together! You seem very
dedicated to your work, and you're very good at teaching. Seriously awesome
work! Thank you!
My teacher said there were two other possibilities of regulation in
prokaryote cells. Something about decomposition of the RNAm before it
reaches translation, as well as post-translation regulation where there is
a decomposition of the polypeptide before it becomes a functional protein.
Was this simply not included in the video or is my teacher crazy? :p
Until two days ago I couldn't tell the difference between the DNA and a
Gene. In just two days I was able to really comprehend not only which is
which, but to also have a very good understanding of how the function. And
all that, thanks to your very elaborate, pleasant to watch, and clear to
understand videos Craig. Thank you!!!
When the gene is open for transcription and the RNA can go on and read it,
how is the overall quantity of the resulting protein controlled? Is it the
case that the RNA keeps going back over and reading the gene over and over
until the gene is eventually disabled and it can't be read? Really
informative video thanks.
Your teacher is correct. Those things can happen, but usually they are
taught with Eukaryotic gene control. In this video I just focused on the
operon. Check out my video on Eukryotic gene control for more info.
A significant point - Archaea generally do not have genes in operons.
Archaeal gene expression is much closer to that of Eukaryotes (although it
varies by which groups of Archaea you consider).
Thank you for the video, this helps a lot. One thing I could use some help
with, how does this play into inducible versus repressible, and positive
versus negative control?
As I walked out of lecture today, I was utterly confused about the gene
control. After watching your video, I have a much clearer idea. Thank you
so much!
Misleading title is misleading. No I don't hate anime, watch more than 3 seconds of the video and you would probably realize this. --- Original video: ...
The people who are going to argue with this video saying that something
like "ANIME 4 LIFE!!" Or something they are more than likely a 12 year old
girl or something.
Here's the anime Community
99% Ignorant,Immature,ruthless,obsessed,Psychotic teenagers 9001 yes...
IT'S OVER 9000!!!
They say that all Cartoons are utterly shit
then they worship the devil because They worship anime and Boku no Pico is
the devil's work at least cartoons don't aim for pedophiles.
+Shinigami yes but they still worship Anime as a god and thd reason why I call them ignorant,Immature, obsessed, ruthless and psychotic that They have the balls to threaten kids with killing them because of the cartoons they like!!!
Finally I get a chance to reply. I think this guy disliked Elfen Lied a lot
xD
10 - Big eyes is what makes anime unique and different. It adds emotions to
a persons face. Most of the times its the eyes which speak louder than the
words. If you observe carefully then the eyes in anime convey much more
emotions than in cartoons.
9 - Stupid Titles? Not all anime have stupid titles and sometimes they do
have a deep meaning. Nice point but not enough to prove that anime sucks.
8 - Idle faces...hmm...The voice acting in anime is brilliant and does not
require 24/7 moving hands. The eyes first of all depict emotions like I
said in point 10. Its one of the ways used to make anime beautiful.
7 - Overuse of demons...Lol a few anime have demons does not mean all of
them do have. And by the way for those few anime who have demons are
usually used to make the story sound more exciting and better. And check
out once more only some anime have demons. And the violence is used to make
the story more touching and add a realistic feel unlike cartoons.
6 - Violence is not meant to scare the audience always. It is used to make
the story more touching and to add a realistic thrilling experience. What
is more better? A person being stabbed with a sword and getting hurt
without bleeding or a person stabbed with a sword whose pain could be felt
through the hearts of the audience due to some of the realistic bloodshed?
5 - Anime mainly doesnt focus on that. We have a seperate set called Hentai
for that stuff. And it is not always something on which viewers are
expected to focus mainly on. Its just there to add a bit of funny element
in a different manner as far as its not Hentai
4 - what the hell was that supposed to mean? Trying to fill stuff to make a
top 10?
3 - Well this is one of the qualities of anime. Overly Dramatic death
scenes? They leave the viewer depressed and the pain of the death of an
anime character could be felt in the viewers hearts. This ability of the
anime is actually awesome and i appreciate it. The Death scenes actually
make give it the feel of a death scene. Anime brings feelings to life in
such ways.
2 - Bizzare characters? Lol dont get me wrong but cartoons as the name says
have a lot more bizarre characters. There are a few wierd anime characters
but there is nothing wrong with that. Have you watched how many bizarre
characters cartoons have? And well it depends on the genre of the anime. If
the genre is about something like aliens it will sure have bizarre
characters.
1 - Death Of Children? So children dont die in real life? Dont get me wrong
but this time I have to say that if your a faint of heart then u should not
watch such anime. Anime adds real life emotions to computerized moving
figures. And it depends again on the story of the anime. If Death of
children do happen in real life then there is nothing wrong with it
happening in anime.
I HAVE SPOKEN UP
