Automatic vs manual transmission my opinion
here's my opinion on automatic vs manual transmission when driving a big rig.
I used to work at subway and I asked my old delivery driver what he
preferred. he stated that big rigs with autos are garbage. I have never
driven a rig so I don't really know.
dude i used to drive garbage trucks too and that was Washington DC I had an
automatic transmission hated it i prefered a clutch even tho i had a
hundred stops a day
ya all you guys saying who drivin an automatic is not a real trucker but
come to europe and see stuff... You muricans using even 20 year old trucks
with no problem, here in Europe if a truck is older than 5 year they just
throw it away or sell it for poor bastards, and their main goal is to save
fuel so they use every kind of shit eletronic (gps tempomat etc...) and
only automatic trucks are here because of the fuel.
So we truckers here are like jews, we got cut when we born (when we got our
license) lel and we didn't have the opportunity to drive beauties like a
good old unsynchronized truck
manual down mountains is cool because put into low gear, which amplifies
jake brakes effectiveness, barely need to use service brakes even with
heavy loads.
the other thing, is reverse. or in parking lots. with manual you can press
clutch when needed when backing, if you have automatic it's different, some
say they don't like automatic as much when backing.
+thirstyy thristyy we're used to coasting when backing up and we can hold that clutch and let the momentum move us into the spot that we need instead of pressing the throttle or accelerator to put this in the spot that we need.
I do as well. Depends on the application though. I used to drive garbage truck and by and large they are autos bc of constant stopping every 20 feet. Now I'm about to get a ltl job tractor trailer delivery driver and they are mostly autos for heavy city and short sprints between stops.
I'd love to try an automatic, but idk if I can drive one for the next
20yrs.All I carry is 45k+ loads everyday in Chicago daily..So idk how an
auto would work
