Marie Warwick, I had this same problem with the drop down in the top of the
shade. If there is a difference in the drop down of the spider on the top
of the shade, make sure your new lamp shade comes with a new harp; the harp
length makes up the difference in height, so that your bulb will be in the
vertical center of the lampshade. In my case, the drop down height of the
spider on the old lampshade was 4" and the harp (metal piece that goes
around the lightbulb and connects the shade to the lamp) was 8 1/2". The
new lampshade only had a spider drop down of a 1/2" but I found out that
the harp they supplied with the shade had a 12" length, so the light bulb
would still be in the center of the lampshade. Hope that helps someone.

If i wanna make a lampshade of 7 inch top diameter, 11 inch bottom diameter
and 9 inch vertical slant then how can I measure arc for this.

so cool about the little gear for updates ... who knew? When I lived in
Hawaii I made a beautiful wreath with glue gun and in the sun's heat,
everything fell off the wreath! LOL when I came home to a pile on the floor
by the door and a bare wreath. Can you tell me what low temp glue guns mean
and how do you know what kind of glue to use? I don't like led lighting,
not very cozy for evening so I am concerned about my embellishments falling
off!

+BarbaraL Lowell Hi Barbara, there are low temp and high temp glue guns. High temp simply means that the glue melts at a higher temperature so it's a bit more heat resistant. That said, I still would use an eco-friendly bulb with this project. They have versions shaped like real bulbs AND that give off even better light.

+WhirlOmar It doesn't actually, but if you're afraid that it might, you could use an energy saving bulb that doesn't give off heat.
