+Algorithm Horror Well experts say he just ran deeper and that it was strange that he dropped his camera, that was his only light source and he probably dropped it to lose some weight to run quicker. 

+Kick914 PE I'm trying to find the real footage right now. But if the man was getting deeper and deeper into the Catacombs, then he must have been accessing an illegal part of the Catacombs. Thing is, he drops the camera at the end, which I think he might have recognized (somehow) a part of the Catacombs and knew where an exit was, so he dropped the camera, a stupid thing to do, and decided to run off to the exit in total darkness.Now, legend has it that the man found 'The Gate to Hell' in there and that was what he was running from, I think that's bullshit. There are other videos of a Rake-like creature that has been caught on film roaming around in the Catacombs, of course, shying away from the camera each time. Maybe our John Doe here (assuming he's dead, if not, then I'm still calling him that) encountered one of those and was trying to get away from it.The original recording has been said to be 40+ minutes long, so I'm assuming he went deeper and deeper, seeing as how he wasn't panicked at all for the majority of the film, until towards the end when he found that painting of a human being sprawled out on the wall.
