+the basic guy No doubt. The man was the best lawyer the country has ever seen. He was captured during the 26 of July rebellion. He was imprisoned and then he argued his way out of jail and possibly death, on to exile in Mexico where he met Che Guevara.
+AXA0032My dear friend. I suggest you to visit other countriesd that have free healthcare besides Cuba. Canada is perfec example. Grmany, Uk aswell. You got manipulated by polititians who are financed by big companies and earn billions of dollars through healthcare.Yes it is big hit for the budget, and that is what states are for - to provide better life for citizens. Figures don't lie : Cubans live longer than people in USA. Also before Fidel there was no middle class as you think . Only rich and poor and that is why revolution happened. And doctors are not traded because of EMBRAGO on entire medicine branch that USA imposed to Cuba, so your si-fi story is incorrect. What I am refering is that many things happened in Cuba due to direct influence of USA and people in power. Rich powerful companies from USA tried to OWN Cuban land, and that is why Fidel had no problem to raise people to revolt.COmpanies and USA economy is highly treatened by Cuba, from cure for cancer (it is NOT a myth) all the way to cigars, rum, sugar, and tourism.Pharmaceutical companies lobby so hard for embargo on Coba on medical healthcare, or they will go broke. Today everybody frightens american public with Obamacare calling it communistic.....which is not. Just look in neighbour countries and you will see how you are wrong.I find your arguments highly unconvincing having in mind that you never visited Cuba , neither you lived in simmilar political structure. On the other hand I lived in Socialism, in ex Yugoslavia, and we also had free heathcare, free educations and many different things, and above all we had very strong economy. So I find you without arguments just because you theorise and haven't experienced life on both sides.
After generations of embargo limits the United States and Cuba can finally get to a meeting ground if you want to blame anyone blame Republicans they have the power to do something about it one, and two the guys who hop on the shark infested waters who were ignored by Texas, Arizona, Mississippi, etc. Until illegal immigration reform became an issue that's right I went there. Most other immigrants don't get much better privileges and Americans have taken notice the pity party is dying off and all those people who are the voices of the cause repeat the same thing. Yeah I know lots of things suck in the Caribbean but when the embargo was in place it was like shooting yourself in the foot now let's see if the people whose slogan has been Cuba will always be in their hearts well time to test it as relatives show up left and right to better health care and privileges not hating just some random things.
@marko beg. Dear Marko, I do not wish to offend you however your comment seems to spin out of control to address the problems of the USA rather than those which I addressed and which have to do with the state of the Cuban people. It seems that you have been misinformed or plainly ignore the truth about Cuban society before and after the revolution. Cuba had a large, prosperous and growing middle class, if you consult the pertinent statistics it will show you that a third of the population belonged to that middle class all of which is nonexistent today thanks entirely to Fidel's policies. It would be useful to form an opinion of your own rather than gobble up the Cuban communist propaganda. The state of Cuba's free healthcare is in utter and complete ruination, visit the clinics and the hospitals that the population uses and this fact will become unquestionably clear. Doctors are traded like slaves to foreign countries for the government to make a profit while the physicians are paid a sum so insignificant that it would make any decent person indignant with disgust. I could go on but I don't wish to respond with an encyclopedia britannica which is what this case really merits. Yes Cuba had poverty issues like every other country in Latin America at the same time it had the third highest standard of living in Latin America, the revolution did nothing but reverse the strides forward that had already been made and it has regressed the country as a whole to a deplorable state. Cuba had never experienced in its history the generalized poverty and disfranchisement it suffers today any historian of the left or the right can not deny that fact. If you understood the workings and the control that the communist have placed the country under you would understand that Castro has had everything to do with it but apparently you don't which leaves you in a state of naïveté the same naïveté that those who eat up the idealistic propaganda that Castro portraits to the world suffer from. Reality is very different. Whatever crimes other countries commit in the case of your comment those allegedly committed by the USA do not excuse or diminish those which have been and continue to be committed in Cuba. Castro is a dictator that is an indisputable fact he was never voted in by the population he did not dare to take the risk of the voting poles even at the time that the revolution was at its most popular stage. Cuba had a revolution to overthrow Batista who was a corrupt dictator although by now Fidel has left Batistas roster of crimes looking like child's play in comparison to his own. The revolution was not made against the USA, Cuba was independent there forth the claim is preposterous. Is rather cliche by now to blame the USA for all the problems of Cuba and the world, it just seems rather a lazy and easy option to take that route and never actually address where the real responsibility lies to what's happened to Cuba. About the alleged cure to cancer it seems to be more myth than fact for at least in the case of the Cuban population no one seems to have heard or have enjoyed its discovery yet could it be that it has been reserved for Castro's VIP's? Yes that would be very typical of the Castro regime, punish the people and exalt the foreigners after all it is the foreigners who will continue to fill his coffers and spread the image of the Potemkin,s village with which they are presented. Dare to peel the wallpaper off and you will see in Castro's Cuba little less than hell on earth.
+AXA0032Cuba under Fidel and before was the same. People were poor then, and they are poor now. Fidel does not have very much with it, but it is Cuban mentality. Why do you think there was a revolution ? People got fed up with rich tycoons and mobsters comming from USA and buying their land, building casinos, hotels, and buying off their economy. You have many examples of that over entire Caribbean Sea today - pople are poor and got owned by private corporations. I know that because I work on cruise ships. As for Cubans...well...they are little bit lazy that is PARTIAL reason why they are poor. Do not get me wrong, they are actually ok with it.It is Cuban way of life....they live in modest way of life and they are ok with it. Not all of Cubans of course but majority. Also, USA put embargo on Cuban products, that could seriously jeperdize USA corporations with - cigars, sugar , alcohol, tourism, medical research. Only these 4 are enough to skyrocket Cuban economy. As for education, you say they can do nothing with it.then please explain why Cuban hospitals have developed cure for cancer while USA is pressing embargo on cuba, and also lately does not allow it;s own students to study in Cuba and get PHD even though Cuba has international standards. You also say that Fidel killed opponents. Tell me please wich goverment does not do that ? If you think that USA did not killed it's own opponents then you need reality check buddy. And in this documentary you will see USA attempts to kill Fidel. And now...the touchy subjects about persecuting gay people.....ok..lets talk about J. Edgar Hoover who done the samething....but he did not stopped at that....he also framed and EXECUTED entire families for so-called communism. And even if it is true (wich is not) remember that you live in democracy. Is that democratic ?Lets talk about cocentration camps.Didn;t the USA had camps for Japanese ?? Also, how would you call Guantanamo today ? A MEDICAL CENTER ? (sarcazm). You say about persicution of Jews, well the way I see it, the USA is doing that to Muslims. So let go the hypocrisy.Thing is - EVERY GOVERMENT IS THE SAME ! Every President or Dictator, politician are hungry for power and will stop at nothing to get it. All politicians are bastards, and you should not make separation between them, no matter wich side you are supporting.Only difference is - the USA did not managet to kill Fidel because USA needs Cuba to scare people with communism wich is so close and it is easier to manipulate people. My guess this whole thing was one big deal between Fidel and USA and this play goes for decades on political stage....
Yes the utter destruction of an entire nation in every possible level is what some may call "looking after the best interest of the people". But which peoples interest was he really looking after? Go to Cuba and live there without dollars for a year and you will find out just how well this wonderful fellow has looked after the interest of a country from which just about everyone wants to emigrate. Yes he is a saint and has been completely misunderstood. They have free education with which they can do nothing because just about everyone makes enough to nearly starve every month and the challenge to put food on the table keeps everyone sufficiently occupied to do nothing else including revolting because they have to come short of selling their souls to live as humans should. Yes they have free healthcare or do they? Try and have a procedure without contacts or without buying the favor of the doctors and see what happens or will you live to tell the tale? Oh wait it's all the fault of the embargo which the USA has so unfairly maintained. Interestingly the embargo does not seem to affect the lavish lifestyles of the government officials on that island who by all accounts are avowed socialist and communist who somehow are more capitalist than Reagan! Yes it's so sad that poor well intentioned Castro could possibly be labeled "Evil", he has only murdered, jailed or exiled his opponents what else could he possibly do in order to save the motherland. Yes the Cuban people and their interest obliged him to remain in power without elections to hold that power for half a century most of the time against his will and under his protestation because he has been forced by the Cuban people to serve them. This has also forced him to build concentration camps, to persecute all religions and in the past to criminalize all those who the interest of the people deemed "dangerous" for example homosexuals and Jehovah Witnesses does this somehow sound familiar ? Look up the weather prognostications of the European continent in the late thirties. Thank God that Cuba had almost no Jews to speak of or else they too might have fallen under the ever expanding radar of those who the interest of the people may deem "dangerous ". Yes poor Castro he has only wanted to do what was best for his people! The real "evil" is the USA how dare they not go along with the theft of their property and back up every project to further enslave the misled Cuban people for one must be terribly misled in order not to embrace the slavery that Castro offers you for indeed there can be no greater call in life but to live it in totality for the good of the motherland and for her representative that blessed wonderful Castro! Yes let's lift every sanction Castro has done a wonderful job his crimes must be overlooked, ignored or whitewashed after all everyone of them were committed with the best interest of the people in mind.
