Michael Kimmel: On Gender (Clip)
//www.MediaEd.org From the DVD: Mars, Venus or Planet Earth? Women & Men in a New Millennium We've heard again and again that men and women ...
Gender is a political tool that men use to harm women and that's why
feminists denounce gender roles. Gender is the systematic oppression of
women and girls.
+Mancheeze I speak for women as a classno you don't, you only speak for yourself and those who agree with your perspective, which, to other women's credit, isn't that many. You can speak for women as a class like I can speak for men as a class, which my level of hubris does not afford and my level of gender identity refuses to. The main aspect of anyone's oppression is the level at which you contribute meaningful production to the economy or the level you consume without contributing. You are the one who is making your gender role the principal part of your identity and worldview.
+MancheezeWhere you saw me screaming? Damn you're so delusional it's really funny. And with the 'next' thingy you sound like - and you probably are - a genuine whore.
+Mancheeze Women as a class? You definitely are out of your f'kin rocker.Or you're the dumbest, most bittered, most frustrated, most miserable bitch in human's history and existence, or you're the worst YT troll there is, there's no third option.
+Kevin J. Dildonik whoa mancheeze sure told you...+mancheeze you don't speak for women. you know nothing about oppression either. enjoy your first world privilege.
+Mancheeze Let's play the black man game. Black men are included in "men", so replace men with black men and the sentence should stay the same right? Here goes: "Gender is a political tool that black men use to harm women and that's why feminists denounce gender roles." So you're buying into the stereotype that black men harm women? Yeah, that's racist as fuck. So that's not cool. Try it with Latino men, Eastern European men, what's the difference? They're all men.
Just the idea that because someone is a certain color they have privilege -
is racist. Just the idea that because someone is a certain gender they are
privileged - is sexist. What you do when you tell me I am privileged is
dare to dictate to me what my life is about and what burdens I have faced.
How dare you.
It is a given, one which no one seeks to do anything about, that women as a
whole are privileged in the most fundamental way imaginable - they live 5-7
years longer than men do. Can you think of any privilege which is more
compelling than the ability to live for so many more years?
+Bruce K ... I know, what's up with that? Those feminists shortening men lifespan... I'm sure it is all a complot, all the "fights for equality" HA they are just trying to not make us realize that woman live longer. They must be in cohots with God or something. I knew evolution was a lie.
