I had a new set of glow plugs a couple of weeks ago. Can't say for sure
whether this has fixed the problem (as it's not that cold right now) but I
reckon the car does run smoother when started from cold. Previously even on
a coolish day it would still misfire a little & smoke on startup. It now
does neither of those things.
I'm thinking of buying a diesel Mondeo or Focus, what do you think about
the car overall? Is it reliable in cold weather(assuming that glow plugs,
egr, injectors etc are in good condition)? Since I live in Finland I need a
car that will take me from A to B(and back) even though it's -30 degrees.
I thought that initially - but then someone said that the smoke (which is a
little blue in colour) suggests that it's more likely to be an issue with
the injectors. Having said that, the glowplug light does take a long time
to go out, even in fair weather. You reckon that's definitely the problem?
