Phoenix is from around the year 2017 while the professor and Luke are from the 1970s. It doesn't seem like Layton and Phoenix meet until they are somehow sent to Labyrinth City. So, not only are they sent back in time, they're also sent into an entirely different universe. Before that, Mahoney was somehow in both Wright and Layton's time frames, which gets even more confusing when you think about it. I have a feeling there isn't going to be much logic in their explanation for this.

As far as I know, in this game they are in a differend universe, where, from what I have heard, whichcraft exists. They didn't travel to this place or something, they simply are there. As Ace Attorney games are set in the near future, while Professor Layton games are actually set 20-50 years in the past, it wouldn't be possible anyway, that they met each other in a natural way. Nevertheless, I wish they would have made the game without differend universes and witchcraft and stuff.

I'm sorry, I don't know anything about the release date of Ace Attorney 5, but it's at least confirmed that it will also be released outside Japan. About Ace Attorney Investigations 2: They are planning to realease it outside Japan, but they don't want to bring it out for the DS therefore it will probably be for the 3DS.

Though I'm more attached to Layton and co, Ace Attorney and it's characters are really great. Enough of this "TEAM LAYTON" "TEAM WRIGHT" bullshit. Learn to like them both and you'll be enjoying the games even more when the game comes out in your language.

Even though the art styles are hilariously incongruent (it's like Mickey Mouse walking onto the set of "Cowboy Bebop"), crossing over these two games seems like such a fundamentally good idea, I'm surprised this didn't happen sooner.

@aroniense21 I'd like to know about the gameplay too, it could be courtroom sessions with puzzles in the investigation... or puzzles with AAIME-like rebuttals inbetween... this trailer indeed needs more gameplay.

This is actually not a part of the actual Ace Attorney series as it is set in a differend universe, where whichcraft exists, but Capcom did also announce Ace Attorney 5, which is a part of the actual series.

I find video games more entertaining than anime. I'd probably stop watching the Ace Attorney anime after a couple episodes >A>' I'd rather they make more games than make an anime.

I love that they are drawn with slightly different styles like Kappa Mikey or Jimmy Timmy Power Hour ( I couldn't think of one targeted to a higher audience)

I for example like both equal. The Ace Attorney series has also incredible music, for example the Announce the Truth themes or the Reminiscense themes.
