If anyone thinks gold silver will not be traded/accepted here is evidence against it! In Weimar Germany they also had a scenario where evacuees resorted to using diamonds for their high value to weight ratio. Many nations have used gold for trade in the past, and history is likely to repeat itself. Gold also has a high value to weight ratio. What items of value can you carry that is worth a lot after you survive and find a new civilization to live in?
