This video is a pretty good example of the fact that great drummers can't
always solo well. There are certainly plenty of worse solos on Youtube, but
I would have hoped for better than this from Beauford. Maybe he'd have
played differently if it were in front of an audience...
One of the surest ways to prove you are an utterly clueless lunkhead is to
demonstrate your belief that the art of drumming comes down to a comparison
between Carter Beauford and Neil Peart.
+Keith Whitnight , obviously you didn't get the sarcasm , I'm a drummer myself and I "Do Not" rate drummers . I simply enjoy all the different talents out there . Peace out
+David Gallant No one is "better'" Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich, even Johnny Carson and Jerry Lewis are great drummers. I am a " good" drummer. My favorite's are Keith Moon (The Who) and Ringo Star (The Beatles), two different styles, John Bohnham (Led Zepplin), Mitch Mitchel (Jimmie Hendrix Experience), Ginger Baker (Cream) etc. My choice for the best = Buddy Rich, Keith Moon then Neil Peart. Make your own choice, but listen to them all first.
+David Gallant I couldn't count the number of drummers I consider superior in every way. But the concept of "better" is illegitimate in assesing such things. Drumming is not a competition . It's not "Carter Beauford vs the World"
If you tune a drum correctly it sounds like this, but if you put your toms back on your drums they cant swing as much as if you hold them. You could use like pearl optimount wich are connected to the rim, so it can swing and doesn't kill the resonance. Sorry for my bad English.
+googlefuckedupyoutube My favourite is still Gavin Harrison's "The Chicken". I can listen to it again and again, and every time, I discover new subtleties! It's a beautiful drum solo.
The main thing that bothers me, is the fact that there doesn't seem to be any structure. I even doubt he was thinking in measures, it's probably just a bunch of licks, fills, techniques... played after eachother.
+jijst5 Not... really. He was using insane technique, and just... shit, you play that. I know the drums. I could never hope to replicate it-- He killed it
