Running New Speaker Wire 96-00 Honda Civic (Drivers Side)
This is in addition to the first video on how to install speaker wire through the current molex connector. Again my vehicle is a 96 EX so other makes and models ...
Yeah, I figured it out the other day. Actually it went in with no
resistance. By the by, to drill the holes, I used my Dremel pen attachment
with a small drill bit. It gave me a lot of control over where the hole
went. This is my project car so I only get to work on it for about an hour
and a half a day but I did get the speaker wire in. Now that the wire is
in, I've started plumbing 4 gauge from the engine bay and a ton of relay
control wires from the dash feeding radio gear in the trunk.
Cool, I usually use 10 gauge wire to "fish" and will do my push/pull stuff
with an old piece of antenna whip. It's got the ball on the end and doesn't
gouge if it hits something. Such a pain just to drive all the speakers just
from the amp mounted behind the back seat. The rear deck only took me like
2 hours and change to replace the 6x9's with the 6 3/4"s I've got. This,
quite a bit longer. A LOT of shaping had to be done to the inside of that
panel to make them fit.
@BakedSnacks I didn't drill though any wires and I would advise being very
careful! If you have an EX like I do the passenger side has pretty much the
whole bottom of the connector available. The driver's side is another story
and there are only 4 holes, I believe on the upper part that can be
hollowed out. If I had to do it again I would use an exacto for both sides.
In short, don't drill though any wires, take your time, use and exacto
knife, and a flat head.
@BakedSnacks Just so you know, most of those wires in the connector aren't
speaker wires, since you have an EX they are mostly power options. If you
pause at 0:19 you can see the plug and what holes I cut, which were the top
four that WERE NOT populated on either side. I would cut a little off the
plastic with the Xacto (thanks for the correction) and break it off, cut
and chip and repeat. Sharper is better and you can get a blade like I have
at a hobby shop
I have a 1996 Civic sedan LX. All I want to do is recover OEM speaker
(driver side door) function due to a broken wire between the receiver and
the speaker. Is it a bad idea to remove fender, drill holes in door and
chassis(?) slightly above or below the boots/connectors? After I route
wires I would fill gaps with putty. I do not want to disturb the existing
electrical wires/connectors if possible. Thanks.
Yeah the rear deck is cake for sure. I have infinity kappas all around. I
did a component system up front and the front took me about 8-9 hours total
to complete but it was over a weekend. Did you get your front ones hooked
up? Worse comes to worse I can do a short clip showing you where it comes
through inside the cab. I have a 96 but the shells should be the same. Let
me know if your still stuck.
@BakedSnacks If you have any further questions I would be more than glad to
answer them, just send me a PM or post it here. I'm still super happy I
took the time to route the wires this way and I guarantee anyone else will
be too. My philosophy is get it done right the first time so you don't have
to mess with it later. I call it being professionally lazy, ha ha. Best of
luck.
Different gauges of wire depends on how far the signal has to go, for power
and ground bigger may be better but for signal that isn't the case.
Crutchfield and some other sites can explain it better. I used 14 and it
works great. I am also running all the way from my amp to my speakers
because I didn't want to splice into the interior harness.
Yeah mean coming into the cab from the door? To be clear, my wire run from
the amp to the door and I ran it from inside out; so, from the cab to the
door. I used a coat hanger from the outside to pull the wire through to the
door. Hopefully, this helps a little. If you still can't get it just
comment again and I'll be happy to help :)
@infinitypro12 Cool! I have an EX myself. Right now I have the speaker
wires completely exposed between the door jam and car, and it's becoming an
eye sore. What do you mean by using an Xacto knife? Like drill a really
small hole, and then cut to expand it carefully with the xacto and flat
head?
Where does the wire feed through when it comes out of that top harness? I
pulled the glove box but I don't see where these are coming out. I've got a
'00 Civic LX I've fitted for 6 3/4" Focal's (that was fun in and of itself)
and it's become a real pain figuring out the rest of this.
I would love to use better speakers, however there is the money issue and
also a Civic with a history of electrical problems, including power windows
control. The electrical "gremlins" are the main reason why I want to avoid
even looking at it wrong. Thanks again.
Well I just have the thin wires that came stock with the car. But the rear
speakers work fine. So 14's work good with front speakers? i heard the
civic chasis cuts the signal out or somthing because of the copper reacting
to the metal in the chasis or something
97 Saturn Project - Speakers
I've seen a lot of questions about speakers on Saturns. Well here is a video! Just about most if not all 90's Saturn SL's use 6.5" speakers on both front and back.
+Benny Villegas You would have to remove the window crank handle.. Find richpin he has tons of saturn videos.
