Because its a hell of alot safer than just setting gains by ear, yeah you might lose some output, but this is a good starting to point to decide if you can turn your gain up or down, and obviously this is just a how to video, soif anyone is wondering how, they can watch it. also, if i get a chance, ill do a test with setting the gain with a dmm, and then setting them witha dd-1 and see how close the output voltage is.
This is b no means the most accurate way of setting gains, but it is safer than setting by ear if you want to try not to damage equipment. Idk why you gotta get on here and start calling names, but whatever. From what I had read, this is a good alternate method if you don't have a dd-1 or a scope. But this video is pretty old and I don't use this method anymore

Proven Accuracy - SMD Crossover Calibrator CC-1 plus Gain Matching

@030233854914 Most of the time I guess it won't be a problem but,... How
can one be sure their HU is working correctly? Problem is, the HU freq.
can't be adjusted easily so your recourse is to replace it. But it is still
better to know and deal with the problem than to not know. Like when my
mono amp came without a subsonic filter. Grrr. I found some in-line RCA
fixed freq subsonic filters but need to decide 25Hz or 30Hz or order both?
Right now I had to simply turn my sub gain down. Sad.
@SuperSalain Just chiming in here. The crossover is exactly that a
crossover not a cutoff. A crossover has a smooth transition from maximum to
zero. The -3dB point is where the power drops to half the maximum and that
frequency is defined as the point where the crossover is providing signal
on one side of that frequency and not on the other. So if the crossover
were simply adjusted by listening or watching for signal on the amp, they
may be way off from the half power signal. FYI.
@meade916 Hi Steve, have you ever done any frequency checks to see if the
head units are actually playing one of the test frequencies at the correct
frequency? I had a cheap MP3 player that played about 10% too fast. So any
calibrations would be off if I used that as my source. I could hear it in
my tweeter crossover. I was picking up high-mids in my tweeters. I didn't
notice it in my sub.
@kcMacnCheese It could be done with a sweep and a spectrum analyzer. Music
won't give you an accurate measurement for the -3dB crossover point. So
basically the simplest, cheapest and best way is with a single tone at the
desired crossover frequency. What is on one side of the crossover frequency
is desired on the other side isn't, music won't change that. Steve has it
right.
Thank you Steve for making good tools for car audio. Just order the CC-1
and can't wait to get it so I can put it with my DD-1. I use the DD-1 and I
love it. It's a good tool for any car audio tech to have. Now that the CC-1
is coming I can't wait to use it.. Again Steve Thank You Jason from Red'Z
Audio
maybe a stupid question but would having a little unit like this would be
useful to thee average Joe Audio like myself with just the odd one or 2
amps.. 4 speakers and 1 sub? I mean, i like my music LOUD? but i dont have
crazy amounts of amps, speakers etc lol Cheers SMD! btw - great videos as
usual
idk.. not hating on your product at all.. just seems like eventually if you
do that you will hear the signal being amplified or not.. idk.. i'm going
to try it out.. but you definitely have a killer product here. Good stuff
steve
@MrMxAudio It can be done with an iPod but you also need a digital volt
meter and a calculator. Even so the CC-1 will still be much easier to get
it adjusted right because it does the calibrating and math for you.
Steave i'v been watching you build your business up over the years and i
have to say you'r doing it right. At the rate you'r going you'r gonna be a
millionaire by the year 2016. Much love from Riverside California
there is an easy way to figure out where 112 hz is without this.. get 112hz
on your ipod hit repeat rill the crossover until your amp picks it up.. or
drops it out.. idk.. just an idea if you want to save money..
Do you sign all the cc-1's and dd-1's? I have a cc-1without a signature
and a dd-1 with a signature and all the ones on YouTube are signed, just
making sure it's not a fake. Thanks!
how can this product work correctly with music? Since there is so many
different peaks, freqs, etc... Instead of just test tones, because thats
the only way to calibrate it.
