Get KTM 1290 Super Duke R? KTM Reliability Sucks? | MotoVlog
Thinking about getting the KTM 1290 Super Duke R but my research says not to get it or any other KTM Motorcycle. FYI - Links to get all of my gear below: Get ...
KTM's are junk. I have personally owned two from new and they were both
terrible. The first one packed in after the first 15 minutes of run time!
I've never owned such unreliable/poor quality bikes before or since. They
should come with magnetic trays attached underneath to collect all the bits
that fall off. There's a lot of them out there now but that doesn't mean
they're good. They're marketed very well, make a bike for every possible
class and back it up with a mass of upgrades.
I never thought KTMs were good looking bikes until really just recently.
And as you said, everyone is drooling over that 1290 Super Duke R and I
freely admit that yes, I was drooling too! I love the blacked out model
with just a tinge of the KTM orange.
But the bigger issue is really doing your research on ANY bike to find out
about reliability and owner satisfaction. You know I'm from the cruiser
world and this is why I was really looking into Victory. According to
Consumer Reports, Victory was rated the HIGHEST motorcycle brand in terms
of owner satisfaction last year. And of course, owner satisfaction included
reliability and low-cost of maintenance.
But as you point out, the bottom line is to do your research! Great video
man.
+desmoface Although that dealer is a mom and pops dealer, it's a still a good dealer from what I hear and the owner is a master mechanic for KTM BUT he's the only mechanic in the shop, so turn around time is going to be long. I was quoted 2 week ta for a new ktm 690 enduro r to be prepped.
I have an 07 KTM 990, lets put it this way i work on it more than I ride it
I now have a Yamaha Super Tenere. Dont Change your mind it will be a
headache
me personally I don't think ktm sucks I have a ktm 350 exc converted to sm
the service hours are low every 15 hours and it is a lot of maintenance but
its more cause my bike is designed around racing where they do full engine
service after every race. I have no problem with this cause its a strong
bike I've had no reliability issues at all with it and love the bike its
only a 350 dirt bike that's been made road legal and from the factory I
balanced the wheels and put more streetable tires on it and I can push 80+
mph not fully pinned out you would need a Yamaha/Honda/Kawasaki/Suzuki 450
with power adders to do that generally (and they aren't even street legal)
or sprocket changes and I'm still on factory sprockets the only reason I
haven't pinned it all the way is cause the wheel needs a little more
balancing and suspension adjustments. yes ktms are expensive to buy but
that because they come basically loaded high end suspensions and breaks
ect. when buying one they are fairly decked out and remember they are built
to do one thing good not all around bikes my bikes designed for enduro
racing and its really good at just that its fast off the line and all the
way to top end it has good off road suspension that soaks up the little
stuff but handles the bigger stuff as well and still gets over 50mpg doing
that. yes the r3 gose as fast and probably better mpg but this is an off
road bike not an on road sport bike making enough power to keep up with
450s and take them when the trail becomes technical. so ktm as a whole
every one I've ever talked to who owned one loves it, and they know what
comes with owning a ktm and wouldn't change a thing, plus they are still
the best and almost only 2 stroke bike company out there (yes I know Yamaha
makes 2 strokes but they are not as good and don't evolve and don't make
over a 250). yes they are expansive, yes they are a lot of maintenance but
its because they are designed around racing where bikes get serviced ever
race and rebuilt every year if not upgraded to the newest model. Just food
for thought I wouldn't suggest owning one unless you are ready to spend a
lot, do the work on it yourself, and push the bike to its limit.
I have an RC8. it is an awesome machine...with any bike you will have its
flaws....yes the coolant proble....I have to replace the water pump at 7k
but it is a one of a kind bike and I love it...I hate cookie cutter
bikes....lol..everyone has a gsxr, honda, yamaha, 600/1k know you see the
s100rr often....same colors different people...SMH...
All the KTM bashing here obviously do not understand ktm. If you want
performance, there must be some sacrifice. Super Duke is a performance bike
made not for pussies who ride on the street abiding laws. It has superb
torque and Hp for its size. I've tried it before and I got to say, mannnnn,
that is one hell of a bike. Shut up on KTM. If you don't believe in KTM,
try swapping to dirt bike and you'll suddenly crave for one of theirs
+cklife1 This video was created to gain feedback from people who owned or have owned a KTM and share their experience. As for haters, there will always be haters no matter what. I get honda hater comments daily on my channel, but I could care less.
Why would someone who is statisfied with his bike brag on the internet?
>MY BIKE IS SO RELIABLE I HAVE TO OPEN A THREAD ON IT
>I NEVER HAD A PROBLEM SO I NEED TO OPEN A THREAD ON IT
+Rainer Diabl There is actualy a term for this where you see more complaints than good things because no one is bothered to talk about the good things
